The hotel itself is ok, in need of some serious modernisation in places and a deep clean. But facilities and set up is good. The service however is nothing short of shambolic. The staff couldn’t be more rude if they tried. They have no understanding of service, they just drop what you ordered and walk off, no eye contact or any warmth at all. We have had multiple issues and when you try to address them then look away and say they can not help. The food is also terrible. The same food on offer every day, little choice for non meat eaters and most cold. No flavour to anything either. We have tried a few “specialty” options and they are just as bad as the rest. They give a different colour wrist band to US/Canada guests as they do people from other countries. This is so they can identify those more likely to tip when being served. There is a significant and noticeable difference in the service provided to the US/Canada clients, all just a money grabbing policy. My advise is to avoid this hotel and book something else. Sadly for us we are only 5 days into a 14 day stay so we have to suck up the terrible service and rubbish food and try our best to enjoy ourselves
Just plain and simple, very under par service but the food truck service is horrendous. If you don’t speak Spanish the staff will make fun of you and be very disrespectful. It wasn’t once, the first time she made fun of my 11 year old daughter we just decided to just walk away embarrassed by her behavior. Then, our son convinced us to go back for a quick snack but we were mistreated even more with the staff yelling at my wife and calling us all crazy. Decided to take it to a manager, no one in sight the hotel guest relations were trying to talk us down and not get a manager. Well, at the end all we got was a very cocky manager cringing saying Sorry to us. We ask what would happen to the staffing at the food truck and he smiled and said I DON’T KNOW. Very disappointed and frustrated, decided to do this instead of Mexico, big mistake will never come back here. This place plain sucks.
Absolutely wonderful. Best beach area. Ocean is gorgeous and sand is so soft. Fun atmosphere. Amazing staff. Great restaurants. Waterpark is a great experience too. You'll never be thirsty.
Just returned from a two week stay from the UK, came with TUI. Family of 4 with two young children (6 & 4). Standard booking, no club memberships, just white bands. On arrival after a very long day of travel was given our room, a family suite in block 32, room 3223. Few signs of wear and tear, absolutely nothing for us to be wanting to move though. Great room throughout the stay. Zero issues with AC, hot water, ZERO damp or mould and was clean and with new towels throughout. There was one day (probably because of the weather) that didn’t get done in the day, we did stay in it longer than usual, but when we went to our meal at night we called and asked for it to be done and in return from our evening it was all done with chocolates on our pillows. Would have happily left but our youngest had had an accident. Asking was no issue. Staff extremely helpful and happy to. Hotel and grounds are for the majority absolutely stunning. It’s probably the large theatre that seemed the oldest part and felt didn’t match the stunning lobby and Square (outside stage area). The beach location was also stunning, for only one day did we notice the seaweed come in. All other days was beautiful. The sunrise on the beach is amazing to watch. I read reviews complaining about the size, honestly this is the flattest and one of the smallest resorts I have been too and is not too large at all. The beach to the entrance of the water park is 15 minutes walk. It’s lovely and nicely spaced out. Have a good look at the map as there is also many little shortcuts that are not obvious. We had some lovely beach walks during our stay. Would walk up to the Tropics Treasure gift shop and then wander back. Never went as far as there as with the heat that was enough for the kids. On the walks would also do some snorkelling throughout and visit the local public bar next to the hotel for a change. Lots of fish outside the Coco Mar and also a family of turtles. Some days the sea was so clear it was just stunning. We all enjoyed our pool days, always lots going on with the entertainment team and kids team. Lots to do around the pool and on the beach. Also a small park on the beach. Only let down around the pool and beach is other guests who don’t pick up after themselves. The staff work so hard trying to pick up and clean up after others. I know some people were worried on a couple of days and rumours of vomit in the pool went round, it wasn’t vomit it was sunscreen. Seen this happen at other hotels. Poor pool boy had his work cut out one day constantly trying to keep on top of it. Lots of different bars around the pool and beach for drinks, including the juice bar if you fancy a non-alcoholic drink. Pool snack bar and usually a daily beach BBQ available for lunch in that area. The main buffet was also available at lunch. Waterpark - great for a change. Nice pool that’s fab for kids and then also has two large splash areas and small slides. My 6 year old went on a couple of the big slides and enjoyed them, no injuries. My husband had a couple of scrapes but also admitted he was too big for the slides so was coming down too fast. Food available there. Only beer, water and soft drinks. There is a shuttle but honestly it’s a 5 min walk back to the lobby. One major positive of the waterpark is that it doesn’t open until 9am so lots of shade still available if not managed to get anythjng by the pool. Food. The big one. Buffet - breakfast and lunch were the better times. It can feel overwhelming when busy. If short of tables find a member of staff and they will happily sort. Short of plates, just ask it’s not a problem. Lots of choices. Buffet at evening - we visited three times and yes this was our least enjoyable. There was food there, no one was going hungry it was just a bit blah. For some reason the evening buffet just feels confused. You are not going hungry though. It didn’t ruin our holiday. We ate at the al la cartes the 11 other nights. We didn’t eat at RAW as I know the kids wouldn’t have enjoyed. There is a kids menu but they do like to eat the other menus. Fave of the al la cartes were the brazilian, french, route 66, japanese and mediterranean. Our least faves were the steak (tex mex) and italian (pizzas were good though). The least favourites is just down to our menu choices and nothing to do with the venues or staff. All were great. Great aspect of the hotel you can book as many as often as you like, no limits. Don’t struggle with the app; go and see the concierges. They will get you booked in and well in advance. Honestly the moans I have seen are the same moans I see on social media for most hotels about the buffets. I have been home for 8 hours and do you know what, I miss the buffet…even the evening buffet. My kids want me to cook. Drinks/Bars Lots all over the resort. Even have waiters offering you drinks around the pool, waterpark, social areas. Tip a dollar and you will receive an even better service. Some of the bars do different drinks so worth having your phone to look at the QR code menus. Drink Tips - the mixology bar which is inbetween the two receptions does the best cocktails!! The best espresso martinis. The beach bar also has a lot more cocktail options than the pool bar and the snack bar pool. Activities/Entertainment/Kids - we didn’t use the kids club but my kids did join in with the activities for the kids around the pool and beach. So much goes on. Please do make sure to find the full itinary when you check in on the screens in the lobby or sports bar. We missed some things on the first couple of days. Lots of adult involvement also around the pool and beach. Evening entertainment again always things on from live bands, shows, circus, magic, karaoke etc. Never went bored. We had a lot of early nights as well due to being so active in the day. No issue with the sports bar or ice cream/coffee shop. My kids loved going to the coffee shop for the ice cream and crepes after being at the pool all day. It does get busy at 5pm as everyone from the waterpark pops in when it closes. Spa - didn’t use but my daughter had her hair braided, wasn’t cheap but when on holiday I seem to think it’s monopoly money. Money/Tips - we only took US dollars. $600 for two weeks. Have come home with plenty. Probably tipped between 5-10 a day between waiters, maid, evening meal. Spent some in the shop when the Lays craving kicked in and when we visited Coco Mar. Excursions. Booked through TUI. Monkeyland Only and Soana Island Private Trip. Paid £600 for all four altogether. Did the trips on different days. Could have been cheaper but opted for the private excursion to cut out travel time and have more time in the water and on the Island. Monkeyland - lovely half day trip. We all loved the monkeys and didn’t mind the transfer as the Rep from Monkeyland was brilliant and really informative. Soana Island - lots of options available but with the young children we wanted the semi private one. Only up to 250 will be on the trip and your part of the island, whilst we were there there wasn’t even 60 people. It was amazing. Is a long day but worth it. Picked up at 6.30 and then went to the TUI office near the airport to pickup other guests and then headed to the harbour. Once there we got on a Catamaran to the island, snorkelling stop, another snorkelling stop to the nursing pools for the starfish and then back on to the Island. Three hours on the island with food and drinks. It was just beautiful. Then back to the harbour on the speedboat! When back we even saw a Manatee. The best day and both children wanted to go back again. Tips/Things to be wary of (not necessarily to do with the hotel). Airport - on arrival you could be waiting for some time for your bags. Ours were over an hour. This meant we didn’t wait long on the coach but others were waiting a long time. Shops to the left of the beach - extremely overpriced and pushy. Will grab your children and put items on them and try and make you pay. Extremely intimidating. I love a haggle and have visited souks in Marrakech but have never felt as uncomfortable as I did at these two shops, especially when they are surrounding young children. Pool & Shade - if you want shade then yep set your alarm clocks. Embrace the jet lag and use it to your advantage and reserve your beds and watch the sunrise. Honestly so many beds in the shade reserved at 6am! Activities and Events - a lot more goes on than is stated on the app. Visit the screens in the lobby or between the sports bar and coffee shop and take pics of the weekly schedule for the activities and kids activities, so much more detail. VIP breakfast and lunches - you will be offered these. Unless you are interested in signing up to the membership then do no go, they can last three hours. It’s a sales pitch. Happens all the the time in these type of hotels so we know to say no but know a lot who said yes and then regretted. À La Cartes - you can visit as many times as you like. Can book on the app or go and see your concierge who will book even more well in advance. Tropical Treasures Gift Shop - right hand side of the beach. Is a no pressure gift shop experience and items are all priced and so much cheaper than the others. They also have massages at good prices. Block 32 - no issues with our block or room but if you are a light sleeper you may struggle as you can hear the entertainment going on late into the night if karaoke/music still on at the square. Also backed onto a kind of service road so the bin lorry and sewage truck passing and visiting could be noisy. We didn’t use our balcony but could imagine some of you not being happy if trying to enjoy the balcony. TUI Beach Meal - if like me you don’t bother with the welcome meetings, TUI do a special beach meal on Tuesdays. Have to pop to see them to book on. I didn’t bother but worth knowing about. Mosquitoes - they are there. They having ruined my tan. They only ate myself though and left everyone else alone. Other guests hygiene - honestly this was my biggest issue! The lack of handwashing was astonishing. We wonder why bugs go around these places and a big part of it is guests. Wash your hands and stop manhandling the food. The other issue was the simple instruction of the toilet paper, some of the toilets were being blocked….and number 2s being done on said blocked toilet and just being left there. Imagine being paid such low wages and having to deal with that on a daily basis. We did though have an amazing holiday and would go back. Sorry for the long review.
It's not typical for me to write reviews, but this experience is absolutely worth one. My biggest complaint is that they do such an exceptional job creating a memorable stay that it makes it very difficult to leave. That is not an exaggeration. I truly enjoyed my experience and was genuinely sad when it was time to go. I hope to return, God willing, sooner rather than later. Thank you all for the hard work you put into helping people step away from everyday life to enjoy the moment. I appreciate the upkeep and atmosphere. It was wonderful! The location is within hours of many popular spots.
