Riu Bambu

We had an amazing time. Most of the staff were very friendly. We did have a few hiccups, but management was willing and quick to rectify it. Some people who need very special shout outs...Rene (front desk manager) was very professional and accommodating, Francis who work in the Colonial restaurant greeted my family every single day with a beautiful smile and always made sure we were taken care of, and Smith, another front desk staff whose attitude was so pleasant and contagious and went above and beyond to secure our needs. There was another front desk manager who was a woman who helped us but I can not remember her name(begins with a Y or J). If you're looking for an everyday turn up vibe with your kids/family, this is definitely the place to be!

1 Star – Would Not Recommend Our stay at RIU Bambu was one of the most disappointing vacations we’ve ever taken. The beach was covered in seaweed during our entire stay. We specifically booked Punta Cana for the beautiful beaches, but we couldn’t enjoy the ocean because of the amount of seaweed. The food was terrible. The buffet was repetitive, the quality was poor, and very few meals were enjoyable. We often left meals hungry because there was so little that appealed to us. Communication was extremely frustrating. Very few employees spoke or understood English, making even simple questions or requests difficult. At an international resort that welcomes guests from all over the world, this was a major disappointment. The rooms are badly outdated, smelled musty, and need serious renovations. While housekeeping kept the room clean, it couldn’t make up for the age and condition of the room. The entertainment was also a huge letdown. The nightly shows were disappointing, lacked energy, and were not enjoyable. We expected much better from a resort that advertises itself as fun and family-friendly. Overall, this resort fell far below our expectations. Between the poor food, outdated and smelly rooms, lack of English-speaking staff, disappointing entertainment, and beach conditions, we would not return or recommend RIU Bambu. There are many other resorts in Punta Cana that offer a much better vacation experience for the money

Overall we had a great time. Food was plentiful and fresh. Ongoing entertainment 100% Had a few issues with certain bartenders.Very nasty.Spoke with manager , seemed to make a difference. Rooms, a little outdated, but pretty clean. At restaurants, food normally cold. They were "ok" at best.

I have mixed feelings about my recent stay at Riu Bambu. While the resort grounds are absolutely beautiful and the excursions themselves were amazing, several factors fell short of expectations. ​The Good: The resort itself is stunning. Many of the staff members were incredibly warm and welcoming, always greeting us with a lovely "Hola!" The excursions we went on were fantastic and definitely a highlight of the trip, though the initial pickup process was unorganized we were left waiting for quite a while despite being on time. ​Food & Entertainment: Despite having several options including Spanish, Mexican, Asian, a steakhouse, and the main buffet the food simply wasn't the best and lacked flavor. The evening entertainment was also a letdown. The kids' entertainment dragged on until 8:30 PM, and the main shows just weren't up to the standard we expected for a resort like this. ​Safety & Location: I really wish I had known beforehand that you can't realistically leave the resort to venture out on your own. It feels quite unsafe outside the property, and there really isn't anything to see or do unless you are on an organized excursion. ​Atmosphere & Comfort: Lastly, as a woman of color, I was deeply saddened by the level of colorism I experienced here. I didn't expect to feel judged by people who look like me, but the stares and comments (which I couldn't understand but could easily read through body language) made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. ​Because of this experience, I definitely won't be returning to this hotel or the Dominican Republic.

For such a pricey holiday that’s supposedly 4* you may have high expectations. You shouldn’t for this place. The rooms are dated, the pools are being thrown up in every day. The food is repetitive. The evening entertainment was terrible. The à la carte restaurants are awful. I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out blue. They wouldn’t take it back and cook it for longer?? The staff were great and the cocktails were ok. The mini bar in the roof was a nice touch and the room was always cleaned really well. Overall, I wouldn’t go back and I think there are probably much better hotels in the area for a similar price.
