Riu Republica

I stayed end of Feb 2026. Our rooms were at the back end (furthest from the beach). The maid staff was exceptional. My room was clean and restocked everyday. The pool areas (3) at our end were lovely, quieter and very enjoyable. The beach, which was not a far walk was beautiful. Plenty of chairs with no problem finding a shady spot. I found the staff to be very attentive to our needs. We had a great time.

Go in with an open mind, have fun! The food and drinks were adequate. Staff was nice. Room was decent. Smelly elevator. No hot water in the afternoon. One of the best beaches and great pools. Awesome jerk chicken.

Rui's is consistent when it comes to the property, well kept and beautiful! The spring breakers were loud in our hallway for the first 3 days of our 7 day stay. I think they should place them in one area farther away. The beach is beautiful, the waves are rough, but you can still get in the water. Several of the local's on the beach selling jewelry, swimsuits, coverups, sunglasses, wood carved animals, wall art, braids, massages were very pushy. Of course, the first full day I bought a beautiful wooden elephant, silver jewelry and a coverup. I would tell them I already bought and that I was happy with my purchases but they'd say you need this? You want this? They should limit the time of day or something. That was a big negative. Both my niece and I didn't just get a little something... we feel it was food poisoning. I personally always get a little something, but it's super manageable. Think about it, your body is not used to the this same food, its an adjustment. We cannot determine exactly where we got it from. Not everyone agrees, but as a precaution, use bottled water to brush your teeth (I didn't always, but I certainly didn't ingest of the tap water). Even though we got sick, I have to say the food was really good. The fruit this time was the BEST I've ever had in my life. I preferred the buffet over the restaurants. And the first night, I did eat a lettuce salad and was fine. I wasn't sick until 4 days later so def not that. NOT so sure about the food in the sports bar though... the burgers, hot dogs sit out and you have to microwave them. OH and how can I forget, the JERK CHICKEN between the beach and pools... SOOO good!!! Little spicy but GOOD! The quiet pool plays 80's rock and is awesome once you're done with the hip hop music and big party groups! Staff (Room cleaning, front desk, gift shop/store, bar... everyone) - Fantastic!! Enjoy!!

Enjoyed the beach and pools. Weather was very nice (80+ F). The room was sufficient except the "only" USB port did not work. Internet connection was decent. Did not watch TV. The food was good and plentiful, as were the beverages. Service staff were nice. Didn't do excursions because we prefer the safety of staying onsite and the privileges for which we'd already paid. However, entertainment (other than quasi-DJ'd music) was virtually non-existent onsite. The "entertainment" on "the stage" was nearly an hour of on-screen computer scrolling on the big screen, trial/error getting the PA system working, live vocals on about 4 songs, all followed by a history lesson/trivia about RIU hotels worldwide (multiple nights).

Our stay was pretty good all around but there is room for improvement. The weather was great and I will say that I was a little worried because the forecast for this area during this time of year always says that there is a chance of rain. That being said it only rained on 2 of our 7 days and only for a 10 and 5 minute period. The rest of the time was pretty much sunny with a few scattered clouds. All of this obviously has nothing to do with the resort. I will start with our room. The room was pretty clean but because our air conditioner wasn't working the room would get damp even with the ceiling fan going. There was mildew that was on the ceiling near the entrance of the room but we did notice that about half way through our stay the cleaner did clean it off and it was gone. The amenities were for the most part pretty great they offer a lot of different off resort excursions that looked like they were a good price. We didn't take advantage of any of them but they did look like they would have been fun. This place has a lot of pools and for the most part they were kept pretty clean. Some of the busier pools would obviously get dirty throughout the day but we found a quieter pool that was clean all day long. My wife and I like to keep kit and used the gym on site but the equipment was pretty worn out and for the most part is in need of a lot of repair. The food in the restaurants were all pretty good. I have to take my hat off to the Ole restaurant that served one of the best cooked steaks I've had in a while. I highly recommend that you try it if you stay here.
