Royalton Splash Punta Cana Resort & Spa

We stayed at Royalton Splash from April 24 to May 1 (non-DC), as two adults in our early 40s, and we had a great time. There was music by the pool (next to the buffet), which added to the fun atmosphere. Activities and Entertainment: There was a great variety of activities by the pool, including aqua aerobics, Zumba, dancing, games, and challenges. They also hosted a foam party, and on another day, there was a large inflatable structure set up in the pool for kids to run across. The water park was also a lot of fun. The evening shows we saw were enjoyable—we especially liked the Michael Jackson show, the magic show, and the circus show. The White Party at both Royalton Punta Cana and Splash was fun and lively. Food and Drinks: We tried four à la carte restaurants, which were easy to book through the app: Under the Sea, Mexican Cantina, Jade, and Grazie Italian. All were good, with the Mexican restaurant being our favorite. Under the Sea was decent, though the food was a bit lukewarm, and the shrimp and lobster were slightly overcooked—but still edible. The buffet offered a wide variety of tasty options. For breakfast, there was a smoothie bar and an egg/omelet station. For lunch and dinner, there were pasta and meat stations. Drinks were good, with plenty of options available. Beach: The beach is beautiful, although it’s located on the Royalton Punta Cana side, about an 8-minute walk from the Splash resort. On the way, you can see iguanas, ducks, birds, and turtles, which is a nice touch. At the beach, you can relax on a chair in the sun or under a shaded palapa. It was a bit breezy, which actually made the heat more comfortable. Room: Our room was in Building 26, which was very well located—close to the pools and buffet. We were on the third floor with a pool view. The room was clean and comfortable, with a king bed and a mini fridge that was restocked daily (water, soda, beer, juice boxes, and chocolate milk). Service: We found the service to be good overall. Whether you tipped or not, the service remained consistent. Staff were friendly, especially the bartenders at the main pool. This was our second time in Punta Cana, and certainly not our last. We would definitely return to this resort, especially with our teenagers.

Our trip was fantastic. We went to Dominican Republic with our large family for our anual trip and the service provided by the staff was phenomenal. I want to give a shout out to the service members that were at the poolside bar. They took time to make our whole family feel welcome and our kids loved them. Big shout out to Omar, Esfredy, Ramon, and Miguel for their amazing service. We will be back soon.

I wanted to share my terrible experience at this hotel so you might consider other options. I am a Marriott Elite member, so I believed my Ambassador status would immunize me from poor customer service. The check-in process was disastrous and took forever, despite there being 4 or 5 people in the Diamond Club office. The food was of poor quality at the buffet. Some dishes were inedible. I had to walk over Royalton Punta Cana (sister hotel) just to get a half-decent meal. They have specialty restaurants, but they were impossible to get into. Had to beg daily. The rooms were dated with a musty smell. The worst part was that we lost power for several hours. When you are on vacation and lose power for 4 to 5 hours is unacceptable. After the power was restored, we were subject to unsanitary conditions in the bathroom. I have attached photos, so everyone can see I am not exaggerating. It was disgusting. I called the front desk to discuss, and they tried to say that the water was fine despite its color. I won't bore you with the fight I had with the hotel after my trip. They refused to offer any compensation despite losing power for 4 hours and having dirty, unsanitary water from their pipes that didn't allow us to bathe. Needless to say, I will never go back to this property again, and I recommend you don't either.
