Sunscape Coco Punta Cana

We got food poisoning at 2 restaurants in the resort. We observed poor safety food handling and hygiene in the buffet restaurant. We will not come back and would not recommend anyone coming to this resort. STAY AWAY.

From the moment we arrived, the friendly staff made us feel right at home, welcoming us with warm smiles and helpful suggestions. We ended up going on a snorkeling excursion and a day trip to the SCAPE Park, organized by the hotel staff and both of those trips were the highlights of the week! They arranged car rides, tickets and gave us a checklist of things to pack and things to avoid - it was super helpful. Chocolate and Luis from the entertainment team were amazing! The atmosphere throughout the resort ranges from relaxing to vibrant, so depending on your vibe for the day you can choose to chill by the beach or enjoy the fun games, music and dancing by the pool. My husband and I both enjoyed a massage and Maria, my therapist was awesome. We also hit the gym a few times and the staff in there were always super friendly and they keep the gym clean and tidy. Altogether, the combination of fantastic food, inviting ambiance, and genuinely attentive staff made my stay memorable. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a wonderful getaway.

I don’t ever write hotel reviews, but felt compelled to write one for this trip. We were there Feb 19-26, a group of 4 adults and 2 children. I would rate this hotel a solid 3.5 stars, and it could easily be a good 4 star but is missing the mark on a few things. The positives - absolutely stunning beach! If you’re a beach person like me, you’ll love it! The weather was amazing the week we went (but obviously nothing to do with the hotel). We upgraded to the Sun Club when we arrived and I can say each day we thoroughly enjoyed the burgers at the Sun Club bar and the Sun Club buffet. Most of the staff were friendly, as I find most Dominican folks! Unfortunately I think that’s where most of the positives end. Oh practically NO mosquitoes! Negatives - there are smokers EVERYWHERE and especially on the beach the rules about smoking are simply ignored. At one point a staff member who is actually allergic to cigarette smoke asked a guest to smoke at a designated spot. The guest looked at him, did not move a muscle and continued to light up the beach. People also smoked at the pool, and as a non smoker it was terrible. As mentioned, we upgraded to the sun club and the only way of them, knowing if you are a some club member was by the colour of your towel. Brown for sun club members and orange for regular guest. While I am not a bougie person, it was frustrating to see that regular guests frequently taking advantage of the pool that was meant for upgraded members as well as the Bar. I’ve honestly never encountered this and have travelled in the Caribbean. Typically staff members observe the particular colour bracelet or towel and ask them to use the other bar or vacate this area. It definitely made me feel like what was even the point of doing the upgrade? We tried the main buffet once and it was terrible. We also tried three of the so-called à la carte restaurants, which were also awful not to mention the fact that there is no reservation system so it makes it quite the ordeal to be first in line and guaranteed a table. One evening we waited an hour and a half to get into the Mexican restaurant. The rooms were completely average and if you were a person that values organization and being able to put your clothes away don’t come here. There were five hangers total, but only space to hang up T-shirts and not one single drawer. The shower was practically falling apart with wallpaper, peeling off the walls and mouldy tiles. I write all this, not to bad talk to the hotel, but in hopes that they actually read this, and I think if they can change a few minor things, it would make a complete difference! My family and I have travelled a lot around the Caribbean and in fact, I am coming back to the Dominican in April again but unfortunately, if you were to ask me what I recommend this hotel? I would say no

Disappointing all-inclusive experience. Check-in was extremely slow with long lines and only two clerks working, which made for a frustrating start to the trip. The food was mediocre and repetitive, and there was very limited entertainment throughout the stay. Most of the bars closed at 6 PM, leaving only two open, which meant long lines and very few options in the evening. We also noticed waste and cleanliness issues around the property. Overall, it didn’t live up to what we expected from an all-inclusive resort.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana is damaging the Hyatt brand and quality reputation. This hotel was a nightmare experience. This maybe a "Hyatt" hotel on the company website, but there is no "Hyatt" actual experience when you are on the property, nor is the Hyatt name referenced anywhere. Beware booking this hotel. There were 3 major issues with this hotel; 1) Noise 2) check in process 3) poorly trained employees on how to deal with guest concerns. Issue 1: We were given a room that overlooked an active construction site with jackhammers, construction vehicles beeping and construction workers yelling at each other. The construction activity is daily from 8am to 6pm including Saturday and Sunday. It was impossible to enjoy the balcony and the noise in the room was terrible. On day 2, we were given a room that overlooked a bar with speakers that cranked out music until 1130pm. Once again, the noise on the balcony and in the room was impossible to enjoy and use. A white noise app couldn't drown out the music. Issue 2: The hotel has 1000+ rooms and on a busy Valentines weekend had 3 front desk personnel. Lines were long. When it was finally our turn, they had my information readily on file. I was using points for my stay. The employee started asking me strange questions; when did I make the reservation, how did I earn my points and then disappeared to make a phone call. He clearly didn't know what to do in this situation. He was NOT familiar with Hyatt. Check in was painful and the questions were very inappropriate. There has to be a more efficient way to check someone in. They clearly didn't know anything about Hyatt. Issue 3: I contacted Hyatt customer service while on location and I received an autogenerated message someone would assist shortly Unfortunately, I received a call from someone on the property right before checking out. There was no one on the property during this busy weekend who could actively assist us with our concern and troubleshoot. The staff is clearly not trained in customer service and the staff is not familiar with their parent hotel property, Hyatt. Post mortem: I am trying to resolve this issue with Hyatt Corporate. I have spoken and emailed Hyatt corporate customer service on several occasions to get my points back. I am a very patient person but this is clearly a bad situation getting worse. This was NOT a vacation break and I am very disappointed in being caught up in Hyatt's own internal problems with a hotel property that doesn't know the meaning of customer service, doing the right thing and ethical values. I feel that I have been scammed. This is not the Hyatt experience that I was expecting. This dialogue has now dragged out for week #3.
