I stayed at the resort for 10 days with my girlfriend and her family, the atmosphere was great, food was pretty good - I recommend the Brazilian place, you get a delicious quinoa salad with a sirloin steak. The bars were pretty cool, by far the hardest worker with the best work ethic is Gregory who primarily works in the front bar by the nightclub and bowling alley. I watched this guy grind every night all night serving countless guests while having fun and spreading his joy to everyone around him. Hope management sees this; Gregory needs a raise asap. The beach was great , definitely recommend the Saona Island excursion the sights were beautiful and overall the atmosphere was amazing. Compared to the neighboring reports, this resort seemed to be the most alive and entertaining. Also, it was super cool how every day/night had its own theme and themed entertainment. Lastly, give Gregory a raise he most certainly deserves it.

We returned from a week-long holiday on the 3rd June and really loved our time at the Sunscape Dominicus La Romana. We stayed in a family suite, the size of which was really generous and was lovely and clean. There was a leak in my bathroom when we arrived, but this was fixed the first evening before I returned to my room and never caused any issues again. The aircon was a good standard, not icy cold but enough to ensure a solid night's sleep. The hotel grounds are beautiful and actively kept that way daily by a team of grounds men. My daughter and I struck up a 'Spanglish' conversation with them one day and were then lucky enough to have a fresh coconut cut from a tree, and opened it for us to drink then eat! It's a lovely resort to walk around with lots of local (but small) wildlife to look at and everything is within walking distance. My party spent a lot of time at the pool area and have to say the reviews stating the pool is dirty or full of stuff are really untrue in my experience. The pool area is surrounded by palm trees and with the wind you do find a little tree debris in the pool but there are staff that jump in the pool throughout the day and also clean it up with a net to ensure it is free of this. They are also more than happy to help you move parasols/chairs. Special mention to the lovely David and Manuel at the swim up bar who were so lovely and kept the wide range of cocktails flowing and even gave up our first taste of Mamajuana(!!) We only took advantage once but the fact the water activities are included in AI is really good, and my daughter loved paddle boarding. Having stayed at quite a few all inclusives, the entertainment here was by far above and beyond what I have experienced to date. You can tell the evening entertainers are trained dancers as the standard is fantastic, and there was such a wide range of costumes and stage design with nothing looking tired or like it's being dragged out for its 10th year. Live singers who have incredible voices singing a mixture of English favourites and Spanish hits, around the pool in the afternoon and in the evening. The daytime entertainers/animation team are brilliant, fun and engaging without being pushy (so no need to feign sleep to avoid water polo!) Special mention to Chocolate, Hercules and Superman for making our time so fun. The pool party on (DR) Mothers Day will be a core memory for my daughter and I - incredible playlist and atmosphere. The team works tirelessly day and night, always bringing 100% energy even in 30 degrees plus and 100% humidity! We really enjoyed some of the restaurants - Chopsticks Teppanyaki and Tierra al a carte especially. We had breakfast and lunch in the Windows buffet each day and were really looked after by Julia who remembered our drink orders. We also visited Coco's cafe a lot for the gorgeous coffee and iced drinks and the aircon was a heavenly reprieve. Improvements? - Would be lovely to have some additional public spaces with aircon for those of us who struggle with the heat/humidity so that the evenings aren't quite so sweaty! - Da Marios and The Pizza shop were not terrible but a little uninspired and could be made a lot more special with a few tweaks to the menus - leaning into their italian theming. - The shop prices are extremely high, I think a lot more would sell if these were brought down a bit. - Sun bed hoggers began to come in, in force as the week progressed I think with a lot of the reviews - some people just cannot be pleased and will look for fault everywhere. We didn't experience any rudeness from the staff and got quick responses to any issues. We loved our time there and could of easily stayed longer and would return.

We’re currently on our second week here (6th-20th June) and overall our stay has been pretty good. We never expect the world, like some people, in any place we go to and the tiny things people nag about like dust or long queues don’t bother us one bit. I’m going to start with the 3 main negatives of this holiday - none of which are about the hotel itself, but the atmosphere and hospitality of the people and staff around. Firstly, the staff here aren’t at all interested in communicating in English. We understand we’re coming to a Spanish speaking country and we are the ones who don’t know the language, but the staff act like they don’t have a clue what you’re saying even when ordering simple drinks. It felt like a mission and sometimes I just couldn’t be bothered, as even once I ordered water at the restaurant and the waitress looked at me like I spoke gibberish. You should be able to order basic drinks like water and coke without being asked 5 times what you mean. We heard the word Gringo thrown around a few times, not that it bothers us but I feel like it just sums up how they feel about English people. The second negative was other people hollering at the bar staff to order when you’ve been stood there for 5/10 minutes already. As they’re understood by the bar staff you get ignored, they get served, and the cycle goes on. We’ve had a couple of times in the evening where we just gave up trying to get a drink (this is when it’s worst). Thirdly, we had a couple of groups (argentinians) bringing massive speakers round the pool blasting their own music. at times you’d have 3 lots of music going on - the hotel’s, and 2 groups when we was there. no one would tell them to turn it down and honestly it ruined sitting by the pool so much. i dont mind if they play it as a bit of background music but it’s always so unnecessarily loud and you just can’t escape it. these are also the same people who don’t know how to queue and be patient. There are plenty of positives about this hotel though: - there is constant cleaning and maintenance of the grounds going on - the food is varied (if your not fussy). i am very fussy and have managed to eat every night, albeit only really rice, pasta, pizza, all the boring stuff, but i haven’t gone hungry at all. we have avoided all uncooked food like salad, meat, cheese, and haven’t had any sort of food poisoning. - there’s a wide variety of drinks, some do taste the same such as they use the same juice as the base, but no complaints at all. - the pool area is lively, and doesn’t get full until around 9/10 (we was down by 8 every day and it was empty) - beach area is lovely and loads of sunbeds out - the entertainment team and overall staff work so hard and pretty much 24/7 - our room is clean and very spacious (block 14) and our mini bar was restocked with water every day. you get about 4 bottles in the fridge and 2 out on the side. - one thing we do praise is they use proper coke and sprite from a bottle, and you can tell water is bottled and not tap. i drink loads of water and haven’t had any issues with getting it, or it affecting my stomach - you must visit the mexican and the italian as the food there was amazing. we havent been to any of the others but do hear good reviewed about them. Overall, I wouldn’t come back to this particular hotel or part of Dominican Republic, and would go over to Punta Cana as I feel like that’s the more “touristy” part and will avoid how we feel about being English here, and especially the type of people who visit. but we absolutely love the island and have no faults with the hotel itself. We also did the Saona Island tour (booked via TUI) which was amazing and such a fun day out so we definitely recommend.
