Overall, the hotel offers excellent facilities, comfortable rooms, and maintains the standards one would expect for this type of hotel. The cleanliness, amenities, and general organization were all very good. However, one aspect that significantly impacted our experience was the service attitude. While the staff were generally professional and efficient, they were not particularly friendly or welcoming. It was surprisingly difficult to get a smile from most employees, and interactions often felt cold, distant, and purely transactional. Service was correct from a technical standpoint, but lacked the warmth, hospitality, and genuine friendliness that many guests expect from a luxury hotel. A resort experience is not only about facilities but also about how guests are made to feel. Unfortunately, the rather dry and impersonal approach of much of the staff prevented the stay from feeling truly exceptional. Despite this, the hotel has many positive qualities, and with a more welcoming and engaging customer service culture, it could offer a much stronger guest experience. Partly the hotel, but also TUI not helping. Entertainment good, bars (at night) good and beach lovely, however food often cold, repetitive with flies all over it. Pool filthy and room had no towels, a bottom sheet only and wires hanging out of the wall

The hotel was great. Our room was very clean, excellent service from everyone. Delicious food and drinks. The entertainment people made us fit all the time. I am planning to go back.

We've just returned from 10 days at Sunscape La Romana, and I won't lie, I was nervous after diving deep into the reviews. There's some truth to them, but here's the thing: your experience will be entirely what you make of it. A lot of the visitors on the Caribbean side of the island, including Dominicus and La Romana, come from Spanish-speaking countries. That doesn't mean English and EU visitors aren't welcome, but it helps to understand the mix. As our week progressed, each day got better. We made an effort to chat with staff, ask how they were, and remember names. They did the same for us, which genuinely improved our overall experience. Across the Caribbean, service is slower than you might be used to. Staff work 6 to 7 days a week for 14 to 15 hours daily, so don't expect the pace you'd get back home. If you relax and go with it, you'll have a fantastic time. The beach is exceptional. The food is decent, nothing amazing, but satisfying. The resort is well maintained, rooms are basic but have comfortable beds, daily service, and excellent AC. There's a good range of restaurants. We particularly loved the Mexican restaurant and the beachfront BBQ grill. This is a high volume resort, so it's large and busy, but you get what you pay for. We paid considerably more last year and the difference was noticeable. Make sure you bring plenty of small bills in dollars for tipping. The staff really do respond to it and you won't wait for anything. They deserve it anyway. We'll definitely return. It was a fantastic, relaxing trip. On arrival I was surprised at how geared up the hotel is to accommodate Argentines and you are not made to feel welcome if you do not speak Spanish. I felt like an imposter rather than a guest. The pool turns any light swimwear green due to the lack of correct chemical treatment - the hotel does not seem to care! The pools are very dirty and the pool area is only swept, not washed. The staff are not well managed, they are on their phones, doing the bare minimum with a lack of pride, there is no customer service anywhere to be seen. The rooms are very basic, our bathroom floor and cupboard door was broken, the aircon struggles when it has been a sunny day. The gardens are well kept and the beach is nice (less rocky if you walk down to the next hotel). The pools are very tired, there are missing tiles and crumbling concrete which have been painted over 10 times instead of being fixed. 25% of the sun loungers and parasols around the pool need replacing. The WiFi is good all over the hotel and there is no need to constantly login which is a plus. The app to book restaurants works well, but using it for maintenance or housekeeping doesn’t get any response. The buffet food is generally good but there isn’t much variation day to day. The restaurants are generally ok too, but also could do with some more options on the menu. The service in the coffee shop is great, however elsewhere there is no sense of order at the bars, with native speakers able to jump the queue, order special drinks etc, I have basic Spanish but it still made me feel there was a two tier system in place. In summary, avoid.
