Iberostar Waves Malaga Playa

This is a wondeful hotel in most respects but the buffet restaurant did not meet our expectations. We are not fussy eaters but we have stayed in H10 and Barcelo hotels and the Iberostar does not come close to the quality of food we had come to expect. Thankfully we had chosen to go half-board and we were told, by Reception on arrival, that there was no problem switching from dinner to lunch but when we did this we were told that there would be an €8 supplement for drinks. We were a party of 4 which meant that lunch would cost us €32. We are not big drinkers so there was no way we were going to drink €32 worth of drink so this did not make financial sense. We absolutely should have been told this information when we arrived. So for the duration of our half-board holiday we ate out for lunch and dinner. Meaning our holiday was actually only B&B. The quality of the actual hotel, the cleanliness and the facilities are all absolutely 4 star. The location was sublime on a beautiful promenade so we did feel blessed if not a little over-charged for our B&B stay for a week. The staff are mostly friendly but those working on reception could do with being a little warmer and friendlier when meeting guests on their arrival and saying goodbye to them on departure. No-one seemed in the least interested in whether we had enjoyed our stay in the hotel. I also didn't appreciate one morning towards the end of our stay when a cleaner knocked on our door telling us that cleaning was going to happen and then she got impatient when I asked for 5 minutes to finish getting dressed!!!! Bear in mind we had NOT hung the required sticker on the outside of the door.

We stayed here for a week end of May, in a nice room, A/I . Having stopped in quite a few iberostar previously, we knew what to expect for food and we weren’t disappointed. Considerable variation in salads and selection of wines, favourite night was the ribs which were to die for, but my wife enjoyed the various fish on offer especially the langustines. What we didn’t realise and to be fair beyond the hotels control, was a beach sports arena next to the hotel, which had a 3 day hand ball competition over the weekend, 80 different teams from around the world, so loud music, guy shouting on a speaker constantly from 10am to 7 pm. So if you are booking then if you don’t like noise I would avoid this week as it happens every year. Maybe because we are older now, the sunbeds were not comfy so spent a few days on the beach ( 14 euros for sunbeds). and you needed to have towels in place at the hotel by 09.30 otherwise none left. Finally, possible was UK half term as lots of screaming children running around everywhere and especially in the theatre in the evening, which obviously the parents didn’t see as an issue, and no consideration for waiting staff and other guests, not acceptable. Overall the hotel is still in a good condition and a big high five to staff, who all work very hard and are very friendly.

Very clean hotel with excellent staff. The food is of a very good standard and there is a barista style coffee shop open all day from 8.30 and an ice cream stand with milkshakes and slushie open between 2 to 6 o'clock which are included in the all inclusive package. Entertainment is on by the pool and sports facilities all day with live singers on a night. Only slight negative is if like me you have a large phallus it will touch the porcelain on the toilet so you will need to place it over the toilet seat. Would return in the future

We spent an excellent week at this hotel about an hour from Malaga. The hotel is in the very pleasant small town of Torrox which is said to have one of the best microclimates in Europe. The weather certainly did not let us down nor did this excellent Iberostar hotel. We are particular fans of this group. The hotel is traditionally Spanish in design which is very refreshing. Rooms, public areas and the restaurants etc were well kept and spotless. The pool area was most attractive. Food was excellent with a wide buffet choice. Staff were friendly and attentive. All in all we had a very nice time and would recommend both the area and this hotel. We have now travelled to Iberostar hotels on about 6 or 7 occasions and have not been disappointed. Our one minor quibble is that as we travel with Jet 2 we do not receive any Iberostar reward points which seems somewhat unfair and is something which should perhaps be reconsidered
