Riu Palace Nautilus

We were very disappointed with our stay at Hotel Riu Palace Nautilus following its so-called “extensive” refurbishment. A fresh coat of paint and some new furniture do not justify the “Palace” branding. The overall standard and attention to detail simply are not there. Service throughout the hotel was poor, with staff often inattentive and lacking the level of professionalism expected from a Riu Palace property. There also appeared to still be ongoing works during our stay, including loose tiles in some areas, which is unacceptable after a major refurbishment. The steam room was not working, and the gym is actually worse than it was before the renovation. One of the biggest disappointments was the Krystal restaurant. Unlike our excellent experiences at the Krystal restaurant in Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas, this version felt badly organised and poorly thought out. We were told by waiters that only wine could be consumed in the restaurant, meaning we had to go upstairs to the bar and wait around ten minutes to get any other type of drink. This completely ruined the dining experience. We raised our concern with the hotel manager who stated to be totally unaware that alternative drinks could not be supplied in the Krystal Restaurant which in itself, says a lot. The menu was also strange and uninspiring. Out of four main course options, two were beef dishes, leaving almost no alternative choice of meat. Overall, it was nothing like the quality and experience offered at the Krystal restaurant in the Riu Palace Maspalomas. In general, the standard of this hotel does nowhere near compare to the Riu Palace Maspalomas. We left feeling extremely disappointed and would not consider this hotel worthy of the Palace name in the current operation.

As a Diamond Customer who has visited Hotel Riu Nautilus on 17 occasions over many years, I feel well placed to provide a balanced and honest review following the recent renovation. This hotel has always held a special place for me due to its excellent beachfront location and the high standards traditionally associated with the Riu Palace brand. While the refurbishment has certainly modernised the appearance of the property, unfortunately it does not reach the quality or luxury standards experienced in other Riu Palace hotels around the world, particularly considering the significant increase in price. There are still several positives worth highlighting. The location remains excellent, with direct access to the promenade and beach. The inclusion of a complimentary in-room safe is a welcome improvement. Food quality overall remains good, and the new mattresses are extremely comfortable, providing a very good night’s sleep. However, there were a number of disappointing aspects during this stay. Noise levels were a major issue. Rooms suffer from considerable balcony noise from neighbouring hotels on both sides, as well as early morning bin collections around 6am. Internal soundproofing is also poor, with neighbouring televisions clearly audible and constant noise from cabinet doors slamming. The television offering itself was extremely poor, with only one English-language channel available. Pillow quality was disappointing, being far too low and lacking support. The kettle appears unchanged from before the refurbishment and feels outdated, while the absence of proper milk cartons and the difficulty obtaining replacement sachets was frustrating and unnecessarily inconvenient. The room layout also seems poorly thought through. The table takes up valuable space without serving much purpose. Air-conditioning was another major disappointment, blowing warm air for much of the stay, with guests informed that cooling is only available during the summer season — unacceptable at this price level and for a hotel marketed within the Palace category. The bathroom redesign also raises concerns. The sink is far too shallow, causing water to splash everywhere during normal use. The squeeze-style hand soap feels cheap and out of place for a supposed luxury hotel. Towels, although new, are extremely thin and noticeably inferior to those provided in other Riu Palace properties. Overall, many elements of the refurbishment appear to have been completed using cheaper materials, which detracts from the premium feel expected from the brand. Around the pool area, sunbeds are positioned far too close together, reducing comfort and privacy. Waiter service around the pool was particularly disappointing, with staff appearing disengaged, uninterested and slow to serve guests. More generally, there was a noticeable lack of friendliness and interaction from staff throughout the hotel, which is very unlike the warm service previously experienced here. Food variety has also reduced significantly compared with previous visits, despite prices increasing considerably. While the app feature allowing guests to request additional room items is a good idea in principle, the response times and follow-through were poor. Finally, there were several safety concerns observed during the stay which should be urgently reviewed by management. In summary, while the renovation has improved the appearance of the hotel and there are still some strong qualities, the overall experience no longer reflects the high standards traditionally associated with the Riu Palace brand. As a loyal returning guest this was disappointing to experience, particularly given the substantial rise in pricing.

Spotlessly clean, beautiful rooms, superb location the food is really good quality and the staff are friendly and really helpful. The shower was powerful and really big, couldn't fault the hotel at all.

What a gem of a Riu Palace , it really does need keeping a secret. It has just had a fantastic refurb, it is spotless, food is amazing, rooms comfortable. Can't wait to go back. Very central to everything. Only thing thats a bit odd is the sunbeds are very very close together but I think most hotels are like that these days so everyone gets a bed, and no rush in a morning either, plenty of beds all day long

Lovely stay at this hotel. All staff friendly. Room lovely and roomy plenty of space for clothes. Cleaned daily plenty hot water and towels. Bed comfortable and sheets changed when you want. The food choices were amazing and good quality. Would definitely go back
