Playa Esperanza Resort

We recently stayed here for a family vacation with three adults and three children (ages 18, 16, and 14). Overall, we had a good stay and would consider staying here again, but there are a few quirks that we wish the hotel would improve. One of the biggest frustrations was the food policy. The bar doesn't serve food, and guests aren't allowed to bring in outside food. In addition, you can't take food from one of the hotel's restaurants into another, even though they're all part of the same property. Breakfast is excellent, and I highly recommend including it with your stay. However, the breakfast hours (7:45 AM–10:45 AM) are very strict. One morning we arrived right at 10:45 AM and were given a hard time about being seated. We were then asked to leave by 11:05 AM, which felt unnecessarily rushed. If you have an early excursion or need breakfast before 7:45 AM, don't expect much flexibility. Another inconvenience was borrowing an iron. The hotel requires a €50 cash deposit—cash only, with no option to charge it to your room. While you do get the money back, it feels like an outdated and unnecessary process. The sauna hours could also be expanded, and if you plan to have dinner at the hotel, it's much more affordable to purchase the dinner package in advance rather than paying on-site. On the positive side, the hotel has a lot going for it. It's right on the beach, the property is clean, the rooms are comfortable, and the staff is friendly. We especially appreciated the complimentary late checkout they provided, which was a thoughtful gesture. The location is another major advantage. It's only about a 10-minute drive to both Alcúdia and Can Picafort. Free parking is available both on the property and along the street in front of the hotel. There are also several restaurants, bars, and supermarkets directly across the street, making it easy to grab a meal or anything you may need. Overall, we had a pleasant stay. While the hotel is a bit expensive for the level of service provided, the beachfront location, cleanliness, comfortable accommodations, and convenient location make it a solid choice. With a little more flexibility and improved guest services, it would be an even better experience.

First Impressions For a resort of this size, the first thing that stands out is the lack of infrastructure. There are only approximately 150 parking spaces serving three separate buildings spread roughly 800 metres apart. The resort has a single check-in desk, yet you may have to park wherever you can find a space, walk with your luggage to reception, complete check-in, and then walk all the way back to your vehicle before driving to your assigned building. The problem is that those designated parking spaces are almost never available. Guests are routinely forced to park on surrounding streets wherever they can find an opening, which can become an incredibly frustrating experience, particularly during busy periods. Lobby If you’re visiting from North America, picture the lobby of a standard Hilton or Aloft—but considerably busier and far less organized. The reception area is constantly crowded, typically staffed by only three employees trying to process hundreds of arriving guests. Families are everywhere, children are crying, large groups gather throughout the lobby, and many guests walk through the reception area in wet swimwear with water dripping from their shorts after coming directly from the pool. The atmosphere feels chaotic rather than welcoming. Rooms Although many rooms offer beautiful ocean views, the accommodations themselves are disappointing. The air conditioning struggles to cool the room adequately, especially during warmer parts of the day. Soundproofing is virtually nonexistent—you can hear conversations, televisions, and general activity from neighbouring rooms as though separated by a thin partition. The property has clearly been designed to maximize occupancy rather than privacy. Balconies sit extremely close together, allowing guests to easily see into neighbouring rooms. It’s common to look out and see towels, swimsuits, underwear, and pool gear hanging to dry just a few feet away, while your neighbours have an equally unobstructed view into your balcony and room. Pool Areas The resort consists of three or four buildings, yet there is nowhere near enough pool space or sun loungers to accommodate the number of guests. This is our first day at 1:30 pm and every single lounger is occupied. Guests have even placed loungers on the small landscaped grass areas because the pool decks are completely full. Even those overflow areas does not even have one lounger available. The overall experience feels less like a beachfront resort and more like a cheap cruise ship sharing amenities with a fully booked cruise ship—except everyone is using the facilities at the same time. Guest Experience There are hotels that prioritize guest experience, and there are hotels that prioritize maximizing occupancy and revenue. This property firmly falls into the latter category. Parking, dining, comfort, and service all feel secondary to fitting as many paying guests onto the property as possible. Full payment is required at check-in, yet the level of service delivered afterward does not reflect the premium pricing. This is my experience during our first hour , the room’s air conditioning stopped working. It required two phone calls and approximately 40 minutes before anyone arrived to inspect the issue and then another wait for over 30 mins so far to have the gentleman come back with some solution (hopefully) Food & Beverage Food served at the pool bar is inexpensive, but unfortunately it tastes exactly that way. While prices are relatively affordable, quality is clearly not the priority. One reason this property maintains such a high number of positive reviews may simply be the enormous volume of guests it accommodates every season. A high review count should not automatically be interpreted as a premium guest experience. An Important Distinction It is important to understand that this property should not be compared to Meliá’s Caribbean or Mexican resorts. If your expectations are based on those destinations, you will likely be disappointed. This is a large, non-exclusive, mass-market family resort located in one of the busiest sections of Playa de Muro. The surrounding streets are lined with souvenir shops and inexpensive restaurants catering primarily to mass tourism. You’ll find merchandise with slogans such as “Sex on the Beach,” “I Love Sugar Daddies,” and similar novelty items. While those businesses are obviously independent of the hotel, they do contribute to the overall atmosphere of the area. There are also an extraordinary number of families with young children. If you’re looking for a peaceful, upscale, or semi-exclusive holiday—even if travelling with your own child—this probably isn’t the right choice. The pools remain extremely crowded throughout the day, often feeling more like public recreational facilities than resort amenities. With hundreds of adults and children sharing relatively limited pool space, hygiene becomes difficult to assess. Overall This resort is designed for volume rather than exclusivity. If your priority is simply beachfront accommodation with plenty of activity and children, it may meet your expectations. However, if you’re looking for a relaxing, premium resort experience with attentive service, comfortable facilities, adequate parking, privacy, and a calmer atmosphere, there are considerably better options available.

Wonderful hotel for our family holiday we had connecting rooms with an amazing side sea view so my granddaughter had lots of room to play about when connecting door was open. We never had to worry about sunbeds as there were plenty all over the grounds. The beach was so close with beautiful white sand and lovely clear sea which never got deep which is great for children. All the pools were lovely but may be a little cold but on a hot day this is what you need. The children’s entertainment was excellent a mini disco in the evening and a great indoor play area for in the day the entertainment staff did a really good job. The food at this hotel was really good and lots to choose from. The staff on reception were always keen to help and check in was made really easy. You have an armband which not only opens your room, but buys anything you need in the hotel over your stay so you never needed to take any money out with you, unless you were leaving the hotel for day. We would definitely return.

I traveled alone with my 12-year-old son from Ukraine. Given the extremely difficult and exhausting journey through several countries, I had sent an official request to the hotel in advance, earnestly asking to provide us with the quietest room possible. Our only goal was to restore the child’s nervous system and get the necessary psychological rest after the stress we had endured. We are direct clients of the hotel, having booked our stay directly on the official website rather than through a travel agency, and this, as it turned out, was our "sentence," because there was no one to stand up for us. From the very first night, the automatic facade lighting system, located right on our balcony, turned out to be faulty. It flashed continuously in strobe mode from 21:00 to 23:00, flooding the room with bright flashes. This made sleep, rest, and even reading absolutely impossible, despite the tightly closed curtains. I have every reason to believe that the hotel checked us into this room knowing full well about the breakdown: in the peak season, when the hotel was completely full, the entire horizontal line of rooms (4 rooms) susceptible to this flickering remained completely empty. The hotel essentially used us, tourists without a tour operator and without influence, to "plug" an unmarketable room. Every day I approached the reception asking to turn off the light or send a repairman. The managers systematically ignored my verbal complaints, giving standard promises that the problem would be solved "tomorrow." Over all those 4 days of hellish conditions, the hotel never even offered us a move to another, functional room. Only after I sent an official claim to the hotel’s email did the Deputy General Manager, Ms. Petrona, contact me. I sent her a video recording where the split-second flickering is clearly captured. In response, Ms. Petrona brazenly tried to accuse me of lying and portray me as irrational, claiming that during the day the technicians had checked the room and "everything was working." She even sent me a video recording of the workers to psychologically pressure me. Only after I directly stated my intention to file an official state complaint did the hotel take action. As an "apology," they brought us a plate of fruit from the buffet, which I had already paid for. On June 5th, repairmen occupied our room for several hours, setting up large-scale construction work with ladders and tools. That day the weather was bad; my child and I wanted to stay in the room but were forced to sit in the lobby for hours as the workers had completely taken over the room. The hotel did not offer us any alternative or another room, even for the duration of this chaos and repair. On the morning of June 6th, I sent a letter demanding compensation. Instead of apologizing, Ms. Petrona summoned me to the reception and subjected me to aggressive psychological pressure, literally stating: "We fixed everything and apologized with fruit, why are you still complaining? We don't want to deal with clients like you!" Only under my firm pressure was she forced to issue me an official "Hoja de Reclamación" complaint form. The hotel administration displayed cynicism and pettiness, never once offering to move me to another similar room, and refusing to provide any real material compensation for the ruined vacation, frayed nerves, lost time, sleep disturbance, and the outright rudeness of the staff. Such a long-awaited vacation was completely ruined. I am currently filing a formal state complaint (Hoja de Reclamación) with the Consumer Inspection of the Balearic Islands (Dirección General de Prestaciones, Farmacia y Consumo). The authorities are in the process of being notified of this situation. Avoid this place if you value your nerves and safety.

1. We have booked for a junior premium suite for 11 nights, me, my wife and our 1 year and 9 months daughter. We have arrived at the hotel almost at the midnight. It took more than one hour to checkin, though we have completed at home the online precheckin. Just one person at the reception and a lot of guests in front of us, and no checkin priority for the families with small babies. 2. In the light of the next morning we have discovered that our "premium" suite was situated right above the hotel/restaurant provisioning entrance, and above some af AC and evacuation noisy fans. Everyday morning dozens of trucks got in and out there making a lot of unpleasant noise. Because we have unpacked all the lagguages and baby stuff in the night we arrived, for us to change the room was not an option anymore. 3. We had our return flight scheduled at 22;30 - so we need to book for a late checkout especially for our daughter. The reception stuff told me several times that I have to ask them for confirmation one day before our checkout day, not sooner. In the mean time our daughter got sick(viral gastroenteritis) so it was a must for us to have a late checkout. I have informed the reception stuff about our daughter problems and ask for a late checkout, but they refused arguing that our room is already reserved for the next customer. Being impossible to have a late checkout, I have asked them if I can book for another room for one more night, they told me is possible but I have to make a phone call from the hotels phone cabin to the "reservation department". I got in the cabin and talk to reservation department and for a fee of 350euros I have made a reservation for one more night, and surprise, now it was possible to stay in the same room! So after all of this birocratic talks and arguing - we have obtain the right to stay in the room for a few more hours for a small fee of 350eur. There were good moments in our staying there, but when you encounter this kind of treatment, especially when you have a small baby who got sick, it is hard to remind them here.
