We visited Club Pollentia Hotel many years ago before it became owned by PortBlue, but we had never stayed during the July to October mosquito season. The mosquitoes made everyone's life a misery with constant, painful bites. Normal mosquitoes swarm from the Nature Reserve in the mornings and evenings, while Tiger mosquitoes take over during the day. This meant we could not sit by the pool, relax on our balcony, or watch the evening entertainment without being bitten, despite trying every deterrent possible. On the positive side, the food was generally very good. The staff were also great, doing their best to cope under arduous conditions. However, on the surface the hotel looks nice, but several major issues seriously detracted from our holiday enjoyment: • All-Inclusive Restrictions: Despite paying for All-Inclusive, the hotel has slimmed down the meal options in the Pool Bar restaurant to the bare minimum. Any other meal options cost extra; for example, a pepperoni pizza incurred an extra charge at the pool bar, yet was free inside the Denario restaurant. • Hidden Extras: The hotel only provides the smallest ice creams. Anything that even remotely looked like a branded item incurred an extra charge. Even though the hotel claims to be eco-friendly, they actually charge you for metal drinking straws. • Room Air Conditioning: The system has been pre-set so that you cannot reduce the temperature below 20 degrees, which is completely inadequate when you have been out in the sunshine. • Glass Safety Issue: Customers are encouraged to place all used glasses and bottles in a crate at the end of the landing to the Village rooms. This is a dangerous practice; the glass breaks and scatters shards across the landing floors, alongside sticky fluid leaking from the upturned bottles. • Pool Changes & Safety: The main outdoor pool has been reduced in depth and is now just a shallow pool for children. It is too busy and shallow for adult swimming. More worryingly, the indoor swimming pool was not properly monitored. The chlorine levels were dangerously high; my wife’s eyes stung from just sitting in the pool area without even swimming. We immediately reported this, but two days later no technician had arrived and the pool remained open. Furthermore, many outdoor umbrellas lacked pins, leaving guests to struggle to erect them. • Drink Restrictions: The hotel operates a strict rule where only two drinks can be obtained at one time from the Pool Bar. This means a father in a family of four cannot collect drinks for his family without queuing twice. • Restaurant Crowding: Be aware that the Ancora restaurant is now adults-only. This displaces families, making the Denario restaurant incredibly overcrowded, often resulting in a 20-minute queue for dinner. • Poor Check-out Policy: Our transfer pick-up was at 5:25 pm. Knowing check-out was at 12 noon, I asked if we could have lunch before our long journey. The hotel checked our account and refused because we had eaten a late lunch on our arrival day, demanding an extra charge. While Jet2 told us we could use the facilities until departure, the hotel strictly interpreted this as only the pools and sun loungers—useless to us in our travel clothes. We paid a lot of money for this holiday and feel cheated by the hotel's constant "Euro-pinching" instead of receiving fabulous customer care. What a shame. Beware.

Great hotel in a very nice and peaceful area. Only a short car or bus ride away from city center. The resort is beautiful and offers plenty of activities. The food selection was wide and good, only one small minus was that no drinks (even water) were included in the lunch/dinner even if you have half inclusive. Overall, this was a great experience and we would recommend the resort and also come again!

We had a week at PortBlue in mid July. On first impressions the hotel reception area was clean and fresh. Despite us arriving early our room was ready and we were allowed to check in straight away. All reception staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We picked up our keys and headed to our room. We were given room H1 which is as far as you can get from the reception area. On our way we passed the bungalow rooms which looked stunning however we soon came to the blocks that our room was in and this is where the good impression ended. The room itself was nice and modern clean and had plenty of storage. We struggled to get it cool as it was so hot outside. We got the room to 23 degrees but no lower. The outside areas however were in need of maintenance and a good clean. Our balcony was never cleaned the whole time we were there. The walkway on the upper level was never cleaned and was covered in bird muck and debris. There was a dead baby bird that eventually got taken by the ants that was there for at least 3 days. The decking around the pool was in need of repair. Paving on lower levels was broken and uneven. That said all staff with the exception of one girl in the main bar were excellent, friendly and hardworking despite the extreme heat. We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis and had our breakfast in the adults only restaurant. Breakfast was fabulous. We did get there early most days and found plenty of choices. My advice for sunbathing around the pool is get there early. People do reserve beds with towels. I counted 75 beds around the edge of the pool. 71 had towels on them but only 12 had people on them.
