As an avid traveler who has visited 17 destinations globally and stayed at multiple high-end properties, I expected a much higher standard of hospitality from this hotel. Unfortunately, despite some positive aspects, the rigid and unwelcoming attitude of the front office staff completely ruined our stay. We booked rooms 109 and 110 for a single night on a Full Board (FB) basis on 06/06/2026. The buffet spread for both dinner and breakfast was wide, diverse, and very good. The kitchen team clearly knows what they are doing.Room 109 was clean and the air conditioning worked perfectly. There were minor but annoying maintenance oversights. The shower cubicle door knob was broken, and the TV remote had dead batteries. At dinner, we were guided to a table with incredibly low-back black chairs that made dining very uncomfortable. The outdoor pathway leading to rooms 106–110 is entirely exposed to rain and stays constantly wet. While caution signs are displayed, it remains a slipping hazard. The hospitality from the front desk was deeply disappointing. Right at check-in, before even handing over our keys, the receptionist aggressively pushed us to eat dinner by 7 PM so we wouldn't "overload" the restaurant, and strictly warned us about the 12 PM checkout. It got worse the next morning. At 9:06 AM—nearly three hours before checkout—she called our room to demand we leave by noon, warning us that we would be charged $20 USD per hour if we stayed a minute later. When we asked the front office for a reasonable 30-minute grace period until 12:30 PM (a common courtesy for in-house guests at most reputable hotels),only they granted. We handed our keys over at 12:15 PM, but since our full-board lunch buffet didn't start until 12:30 PM, we were left wandering aimlessly around the lobby, feeling entirely unwelcome. A beautiful property and good food mean nothing if the front-facing staff treat paying guests like a logistical burden. I will not be returning to Ahungalla, and I cannot recommend this property to fellow travelers until management addresses their front office training.
Amazing experience! The service was outstanding, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional. They went above and beyond to ensure that everything was perfect and made us feel genuinely welcome. The warm hospitality and excellent service truly made our visit memorable. Highly recommended, and we look forward to visiting again!
We had 04 days residential work shop in this hotel. Awesome service and nice staff. Specially Agra & Nethra-Amandi from restaurant are really helpful & friendly & attentive for the customers everytime with good manner & they know what is the customer service. Good & have a pleasant 03 nights 04 days stay at HERITANCE AHUNGALLA !! Thank you all
The moment we arrived till departure, Frint office team lookedafter us well. We asked a room from 3rd floor and everything arranged as expected. Especially Nelka was so helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. Great spread. Great value for money. We will come again
Absolutely brilliant, I have deleted my previous 4 star review and can now say it gets 5 out of 5. The issue’s at the start of our stay regarding the “all inclusive” snack menu and also the attentiveness of the bar staff whilst around the pool area were quickly resolved after conversations with Agra and Miran (they will be great additions to the management team for Aitken Spence). The service from all of the staff at the hotel was absolutely amazing. We had to move room early in our stay due to building works being carried out; Nelka offered us the choice of a Suite or a Luxury room as a replacement, we chose the luxury room because we felt the suite would be wasted on just the 2 of us. Food was faultless and the chance to have a choice from a set menu occasionally was really appreciated. Many thanks to all at reception, housekeeping, restaurant, pool attendants and bar staff. We absolutely loved trying to learn the basics of the Sinhalese language and hope we made people smile with our attempts. Cannot wait to return to our “happy place” and would recommend anyone (especially Brits) wanting a special beach holiday to consider this fantastic hotel. 3rd visit here and it never disappoints.
