Turyaa Kalutara

We recently stayed at Turyaa Hotel and while the property itself is quite pretty and has a lot of potential, the overall condition of the hotel was disappointing. For a hotel managed by Aitken Spence, we expected a much higher standard. Unfortunately, the hotel felt quite run down and not well maintained. The cleanliness was below what we would expect, particularly from the housekeeping team. The floors in the room were dirty, and the room itself looked worn out and not properly cleaned or maintained. It’s a shame because the location and general setting of the property are lovely, but the lack of upkeep and poor housekeeping standards really affected our experience. We hope management will address these issues and improve the overall standard of the hotel.

Extremely disappointing experience from the moment we arrived. It took over 2 hours to check in, and we were left waiting in the foyer with little communication or assistance from staff. When we finally reached our room, basic amenities were missing — no towels or toilet paper, and the safe was locked, requiring multiple requests before staff attended to fix the issue. The bathroom was not clean, with visible mould and soap scum on the tiles. The bed sheets were dirty, and the mattress was very firm and sagged in the middle, making it uncomfortable to sleep. We had to place extra towels over the sheets just to feel comfortable. There was no iron or ironing board, and we were provided no information about hotel facilities upon arrival. Overall, the atmosphere felt more like a school dormitory than a resort. Breakfast service was also disappointing. The dining hall had very limited breakfast hours, and despite having already paid for breakfast, we were refused entry due to timing. When we asked for something simple like black coffee, we were told we needed to pay extra and were not accommodated in any way. There were very limited buffet options, and no convenient options available for extra meals or cold drinks for children. Loud music was blaring at 8am, which was very disruptive and inappropriate for a hotel environment. Throughout our stay, staff seemed more focused on additional charges rather than providing a welcoming guest experience. Communication often felt abrupt, with staff frequently saying what could not be done rather than trying to assist. Overall, very poor service and not good value for money. There are many better hotels offering a far more pleasant experience. I would not recommend staying here.

We had a great time. The rooms are spacious with a beautiful sea view. The swimming pools are very well maintained. I would also like to thank Shamali (Manager ) at the buffet restaurant for taking such good care of us. We can’t wait to come back again and enjoy the wonderful Sri Lankan hospitality.

Great place to have a family time. Tons of activities... The service us great, staff is kind and thoughtful food is perfect!

Our stay was initially meant to be 2 nights, but due to flight disruptions, we ended up staying an extra 9. The staff are amazing and looked after us so well. A special shout out to Shakila at the front desk, helpful, professional, friendly and always smiling. The poolside assistant was also excellent. The speed of service, I found, was extremely slow, which at times got frustrating. Maybe its just the norm, but I would be used to everything being done quicker. The thing that I found to be the worst was method of ordering drink and payment. A slow, tedious procedure for ordering drinks, adding extra time for customers and extra workload for staff, as well as a huge waste of paper with all the big receipts being printed out. Management please find a quicker, more efficient way for both ordering and making payments. Rooms were clean, spacious with good, easily adjustable air conditioning,and cleaned well, daily, if required. Pool was lovely, and attendant was excellent. A bit of maintenance around some of the broken decking would be advisable, particularly on area beside the grass at the adult pool. The male that did the aqua aerobics in the mornings was brilliant and we all had so much fun at it. Restaurant staff were lovely. Food was nice. If you were staying for 2 or 3 days, it would be perfect, but given our length of stay, it did get a bit monotonous. Food was refilled quickly. Loved the young male with the huge smile doing my eggs every morning, brightened up the start of the day. Was not really a fan of the pink lobster, nice toasted sandwiches and chips, ordered a satay thing 1 day and it was awful. Couldn't bite into the chicken it was that hard, it would have been better used as a golf ball. I returned it but was still charged for it, and wasn't offered another one. Spa was excellent, clean with excellent services provided. Laundry was done well and promptly. Few issues with colour runs, but once I wrote to was lights separately, that was done. Location was excellent, whole area was kept clean, and staff were so friendly. Overall had a super stay in a fabulous hotel, but it was the staff that made it so comfortable, and they did a super job keeping 27 irish people, stranded in Sri Lanka, happy , comfortable and fed. Would have no issues recommending this hotel
