Kalima Resort & Villas Khao Lak

Me and my partner came here for his birthday from the end of march- early April and all I can say is WOW! Food is great. Breakfast was great. Views were beautiful! the staff were so accommodating from the moment we stepped there to check in we Felt so welcomed. Everyone is friendly and says hello to you with a warm smile, from the cleaners to the bell boys and the ladies on front desk the customer service is great. Roze was amazing with helping us upgrade to celebrate my partners birthday to the pool Suite. We had such a great time that we extended our trip, the manager made sure we had a room for the extra few days with no hassle. I will recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Thailand. This was our second trip to Kalima and we were not disappointed. It was great to see areas of improvement, the hotel has invested heavily to build a new more robust bridge across to it's private beach and they have also added chilled filter water dispensers around the resort for filling your own bottles. On arrival we were greeted warmly and despite only being 10am our room was ready for us which was a huge relief after 24hours of travel. As before our swim out room was huge, well maintained and cleaned daily by friendly staff. As we walked into the restaurant that first lunchtime we were welcomed with open arms by many staff who recognised us from the previous year. I can not praise the GM, Alex and his team enough - all staff across the large hotel great you with warm smiles and an hello, they recognise you from day one, recall your room number, drinks order and where you may like to sit. Managers were present and working alongside their staff to ensure guests were served to the highest standard. We used all the restaurants, activities, the beach and pool and couldn't fault anything. Being at the hotel for the celebration of Thailand's New year, Songkran was superb, so many traditional celebrations and party games ran throughout the day and evening. So special to see the countries traditions and also see how the staff who work so hard were encouraged to join in and celebrate with not just the guests but each other too. I must mention some staff who went over and above with the hope they get the recognition they deserve .. Wit, Ball, Wut, Sathang, Ploy, Monica, Fern, Kwan and a very special shout out to Pada who treated us as family from day one. I would not hesitate to recommend Kailma Resort and we will most definitely return to see you all again.

No, this was not a five-star experience by any stretch. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff set the tone—and it wasn’t a good one. They were as cold as ice—completely indifferent, unwelcoming, and borderline dismissive. No warmth, no genuine greeting, just blank stares and robotic responses. It honestly felt more like checking into a cheap roadside motel than a supposed five-star hotel. Every interaction felt distant and uncomfortable, as if guests were an afterthought. From there, things only continued to disappoint. Everything started late. Not a single activity began on time, and I constantly had to chase staff just to get things moving. I registered for multiple activities that simply never happened—no communication, no updates, no accountability. Just silence and confusion. Yes, the property itself is beautiful. The design is elegant, and the rooms are well put together—but none of that can make up for service that is this careless and disconnected. A luxury hotel should feel seamless and welcoming; instead, this felt disorganized, cold, and frustrating from start to finish. I kept hoping something would redeem the stay, but it never came. Every expectation went unmet, and the overall experience felt poorly managed and impersonal. This wasn’t just disappointing—it was a complete letdown. I won’t be returning.

After coming here, I don’t know how I would ever want to leave!! The staff are so nice, and even when you arrive, they are more than happy to take your bags for you. What stood out to me most is the staff. From the drivers (Dez) to the waitresses (Pada) and waiters (Wut), all of them are so kind and welcoming. Pada taught me a lot of Thai, which came in handy throughout my stay. The room is spectacular, and the cleaners do a thorough job, making it not only pleasant but also reassuring to know it’s clean after a day of activities. There are many accessible places all around, from shops to the private beach—everything is within walking distance. Overall, this is an amazing place to stay, and I would definitely come here again.
