Oceana Suites

We were extremely let down by this hotel and ended up leaving after just one night and returning home early. It was obvious from the moment we arrived that there was ongoing maintenance work. Both swimming pools were empty, and there was constant noise from what sounded like construction or repairs throughout our stay. The food offering was also very underwhelming — to the point where we didn’t feel comfortable eating much beyond basic items. We also encountered an unexpected dress code issue at dinner. There was no mention anywhere beforehand about a requirement to wear trousers, yet we were stopped and made to feel quite uncomfortable by management. Eventually, we were allowed to eat in a separate, restricted area, and my partner had to fetch food on my behalf as we were told my attire might “offend other guests,” which seemed unreasonable — especially as similar rules didn’t appear to apply to women. We were even pointed toward the hotel shop to purchase appropriate clothing. Cleanliness was another major concern. Our room felt neglected, with damp patches, peeling paint, carpets that looked unclean, and pillows that had a noticeable smoky smell. Outside, things didn’t improve. The beach bar appeared abandoned, the only usable pool had visible algae at the bottom, and the beach itself was inaccessible with no seating available. Although the staff tried to be polite and accommodating, the number and scale of these problems made it impossible to enjoy our stay.

This hotel is really disappointing, and meant that we cut our time here short after 24 hours and flew home. It was clear that the hotel was undergoing maintenance as both pools were empty and the entire time we could hear banging and crashing. The food was very poor and it only felt safe to eat bread rolls. Then, as others have commented, we fell foul of the ‘trousers at dinner’ rule that wasn’t shown in any of the travel documents or hotel website. The manager made us feel awful, and after some negotiations we were allowed to sit in a cordoned off section of the restaurant with my partner having to collect food for me as it would “offend other guests if they saw my ankles” ?! This rule didn’t seem to apply to female guests - and we were directed to the hotel shop if we wanted to buy trousers! The hotel is very dirty with our room having damp and peeling paint work, smoky smelling pillows and filthy carpets. Outside the beach bar was derelict and the only pool with water in it had a layer of green algae on the bottom. Couldn’t get onto the beach as it was closed, no chairs to sit on, etc The staff seemed helpful, but these issues aren’t something you can resolve quickly.

Our bus delivered us from the airport through the guarded entrance and up the tree lined avenue past the padelboard and tennis courts to the front of this grand hotel. We arrived late on Saturday evening so missed the evenings entertainment (belly dancing) but was given the key to room 427 on the second floor a junior suite. The wall outside in the corridor needed a repaint as had some blistering. However the room itself was large. There was an area to the luggage, two cupboards to hang our clothes with dressing gowns, a minibar and safe. The bathroom had bath, shower, basin, hairdryer and toiletries. The balcony has sea and garden views. It had a TV with some channels we could watch. Each day we came back to a clean room with some lovely flowers and shaped towels! We had all inclusive so got a paper from reception explaining what we could and could not have. Breakfast included, omelet freshly made, cereals and muesli, fried and scrambled eggs, selection of fruits, bread and butter pudding, bread, pastries, jams etc. Service was 5 star. Empty Plates were cleared away quickly and everybody was very friendly and polite! Lunch was a la carte and outside we were greeted by three lovely cats! Dinner was a good selection of food. We loved the tunisienne food on Thursday night. I had 2 plates full! Service in the restaurants is 5 star! We had cocktails on the ground floor at the bar. The bar staff speak a multitude of languages and make very good cocktails. They are very good!

I would have rated 5 out of 5 I never had the option? Just home from a fabulous two weeks at this superb hotel. From Sameh, on reception, who could not do enough to make sure you had the very best experience. Helped with a City tour of Tunis, with the best driver, Oussamo Phone 216 52062950 Or ask Sameh. The trip was so informative, from start to finish. With lunch in a traditional Tunisian restaurant. Worth every penny. Oussamo, dropped us off, waited, then off to the next land mark. Fabulous if you have walking issues. The Hotel itself, is beautiful, but tired in places, however, nothing that you would complain about. Must be hard keeping on top of all the menial jobs. Indoor pool and Gym, were perfect for keeping up my fitness routine. Food excellent, waiters very sweet. Will be back very soon. I highly recommend this hotel. We stayed at the hotel for 10 days. During the first few days the services were not what we expected from a 5-star hotel. However, after we raised our concerns, the staff became very helpful and responsive, especially with cleaning and room service which we appreciated. The location is excellent only about 20 yards from the beachfront. The dining staff, especially BESHIR , along with the duty managers were extremely welcoming, friendly, and kind throughout our stay. The weather was quite cold in late February and early March, and there was not much to do around the area during this time. It may be a much better destination in summer for beach activities and nightlife. The beach itself was quite dirty, and the beach bar was closed possibly due to the winter season or the fasting month. Overall, the friendliness of the staff made a positive difference to our stay.
