Great hotel. Have made Turkey our fly and flop destination of choice travelling there 2 or 3 times each year. From the moment we arrived at the Akra Kemer we were made to feel special. Weather wasn't fantastic every day but we were there to relax and it was ideal for that. Everything was slightly scaled down but we expected this as it was April. In some ways it was better for it. Food in the main restaurant was plentiful and varied although not best for vegetarians but Waiting staff in the restaurant got it just right . Attentive without being in your face. The beach was a different story - Lots of choice for veggies and delicious. Speciality restaurants were open and the level of service there was , if anything , even higher . Quick 10 to 15 minute walk into Kemer with the usual assortment of Turkish shops. Plenty of choice and the obligatory fakes. The lounge bar was the perfect place to relax and chill and the Jazz Bar was a great area to relax and enjoy the evening. Would we return ? Yes. Will we return ? Depends. Too many great hotels but the Akra deserves a special mention.

We had never been to Turkey before and, if we’re honest, there had always been a fairly strong “don’t fancy it” mantra in our house. After comparing Turkey with other parts of Europe and Mexico for a similar price, we decided to give it a go — and chose Akra Kemer. We’re very glad we did. The hotel is an impressive, established 5-star resort with a real sense of grandeur and style. Despite being huge, the clever layout means it becomes surprisingly easy to navigate after the first day or two. There are a few strangely empty spaces around the hotel, which can look a little odd, but these are minor quirks. Everything else feels incredibly well organised and runs like clockwork. The rooms are clean, comfortable and functional, with everything you need. The penthouse rooms offer slightly more space and enormous bathrooms. It will be interesting to see how the rooms look in a few years as they inevitably start to show some wear, but right now they are very good. The food is one of the hotel’s biggest strengths. The main restaurant offers plenty of choice, different themes and lots of fresh cooking. The pool and beach restaurants during the day are arguably even better — pizzas, burgers, fresh fish, waffles, crepes, sizzling beef… the list seems endless. You could probably stay for a month and still not try everything. The à la carte restaurants take things up another level, although booking them is essentially an Olympic event. Tables open at 8am, 48 hours ahead, and by 8:00:45 the popular restaurants can be full. The Italian, Asian and Turkish restaurants we visited were all superb. Guest Services were also excellent at sorting out our bookings when we needed two tables of three joining together. The staff throughout the hotel are exceptional: friendly, efficient, polite and genuinely keen to help. The bars are well staffed, and the poolside waiters on rollerblades deserve a special mention for flying around the resort collecting glasses and taking orders. The Lounge Bar has live music every night, while the Luna Bar on the fourth floor offers fantastic views across the hotel and bay. The entertainment team are excellent without being pushy, with activities throughout the day including darts, water polo, volleyball and various fitness sessions. A special mention must go to Tom, the Tunisian Scouser, who learned names incredibly quickly and made sure children were involved. My son absolutely loved him. There are loads of facilities too: several pools, water slides, a cinema, bowling, arcade, gym, spa, sauna, steam room and numerous bars. The relax pool is genuinely relaxing, while the beach is stony and gets deep quickly, so beach shoes are recommended. There are only two real negatives. The hotel next door can be very loud until around midnight, so consider your room location. Secondly, if you have a strong moral compass when it comes to buffet etiquette, prepare yourself. Watching someone take 50 cherries, eat 10 and abandon the remaining 40 genuinely tested my patience. The sushi situation wasn’t much better! Overall, Akra Kemer completely changed our opinion of Turkey. Fantastic hotel, brilliant staff, excellent food and enough to do that boredom is almost impossible. We came saying “we don’t fancy Turkey” and left wondering when we could come back — which probably tells you everything you need to know.
