Riu Oliva Beach Resort

Now, my 5 star rating is based on the food, the staff and location. The accommodation i knew about before coming so I’ll review it but I didn’t factor that into my rating. Accommodation: I knew from reviews not to expect much from the accommodation itself as yes, it needs an upgrade but honestly it’s not that bad. Beds were comfy. Really well cleaned each day by really friendly staff, and in terms of facilities you can’t go wrong. A family member had an issue with the door and they came and sorted it straight away. The grounds are really well maintained too which meant sitting out on the grass was really nice, especially as it got cooler in the evening. Food: Food was great. So much choice and they’re really easy about you taking food out with you to your rooms. The cleaning staff just take them back when they clean your room. Book into the other restaurants as the Asian one is good. It’s all-inclusive food so if you’re expecting prime lobster and caviar then perhaps you need to be looking elsewhere. The food in warmers is never going to be boiling hot so again, if that’s what you expect maybe all-inclusive is not for you. It is topped up regularly and the staff are great. Food by the pool is basic, but we had no issues whatsoever with chips, wedges, burgers. Salads, hotdogs, and fruits. Staff: All the staff were really nice. From checking in to checking out they were really helpful and great with the kids. We went into town a number of times and they got you a taxi within minutes. Taxi to Corralejo was about €11. TUI reps were great too and were really helpful without being pushy about excursion's. Pool and facilities: We were there a week before the school holidays so it was a bit more relaxed but on the day we were leaving it all kicked off with more animated pool games and a lot busier. Pool was good, but a heads up that you can’t have pool floats and things like that in the main pool. We had to keep them in the kiddy pool. Location: Beach is amazing! It’s literally right there so you aren’t travelling. Really long coastline too and you aren’t pestered by anybody. You’re about 15 minutes from Corralejo by taxi and they are easy to get. There’s also a bus stop at the top of the street outside the resort. Didn’t use that though. Other things to highlight: Waterpark is worth a trip, the slides are great! Probably recommend water shoes just because the floor gets hot, I mean…it is the Canary Islands…but it’s a great day out we all enjoyed. Corralejo town is nice with plenty to do between shops selling ‘quality branded’ goods (got a decent ‘YSL’ bag tbf), places to eat, shopping for both regularly stuff and souvenirs. Souvenirs are really cheap too. Harbour area is nice, and we went to Lanzarote for the day as it’s only 30 minutes away. Overall, thought it was great. Look, you’re not going to walk in and go ‘wow!’ and nobody is going to be jealous on Instagram thinking you’re a millionaire by going here but is clean, safe, plentiful and the staff and location is great.

The general area is beautiful. The sea ,the dunes and the near by town, Corralejo are stunning so I’d definitely recommend this area just not this hotel! This hotel stinks! Like literally, the smell of sewage is overpowering from almost every drain on the terrace and along the path as you go to the main pool. It’s so bad my family and I nick-named it poo poo lane the whole week. Where it doesn’t smell like sewage it smells like smoke because there is no designated area for smoking so everyone lights up anywhere. So if you don’t smoke don’t go here. The hotel from the outside isn’t bad it looks promising (don’t be fooled) but the inside very is dated and there are bugs in the rooms in the annex so be warned. The literal only good thing about this hotel is the pools, they are a decent size and clean. The bus stop and the shop is right outside the hotel so you can go into the town very easily and buy yourself something decent to eat. The food in the main restaurant is mediocre and gave me diarrhoea every night. The snack bar sucks, there is only burgers, chips, cucumber sandwiches, olives and cheese on offer.

Just returned from another great holiday at Riu Oliva, staff are absolutely brilliant and can’t do enough for you. The food was really good and something for everyone. The entertainment team work so hard to ensure you have a great time both day and night. Had a lovely bottle of fizz and chocolates delivered to our room with compliments from the Reception staff which was a lovely surprise. As I said, the staff are absolutely brilliant and always happy in their work and are an asset to Riu. If the rating was based on the how hard the staff work then this place should be a 5*. We are looking forward to going back again and hopefully soon.

Very pleased with location and staff were excellent.Rooms need updating. Also could do with free tea and coffee facilities in rooms. And it would be nice if pool towels were in rooms as the towel area is closed just when you needed to get them.
