Matemwe Attitude

We stayed at Matemwe Attitude for our honeymoon and it really is a little corner of paradise which is perfect if you’re just wanting to relax and switch of. The setting was stunning and I loved walking through the palm trees and flowers everyday and the view from the main bar area. We stayed in a swim up villa with a shared pool. The room was big, spacious and had all the amenities you’d need. The room was spotless and cleaners were in everyday. The only downside to this was the sun was gone by 12:30 from the room so we had to move to the beach as the main pool area didn’t get the sun after so long too. The staff could not do enough for you, always so polite, helpful and friendly. Everyone from those who greeted us when we arrived to those who helped us with our cases when leaving were fantastic! Special mention goes to Anthony at the main bar who was a ray of sunshine and an amazing person. He was always there with a smile, remembered our order and always helping all guests! The only thing is that we sometimes struggled to get water for the room. It’s kept at the shop and they very rarely had any and then we had been told to go to reception who said to go to the shop…. They have water machines dotted around the complex however these are not handy to the majority of rooms to go and refill when needed. Just for anyone planning to go who loves a snack, make sure you bring your own as this is a secluded location with no means to get any crisps / chocolate which is minimal in the grand scheme of things but as a crisp girl, I was craving! On the food front, there was plenty of choice and the pizzas are amazing! My partner loved the food at dinner time, I’m a bit fussier but always could find something to eat. We went to the à la carte dinner and it was so nice although the service was very slow. We also got a honeymoon dinner on the beach and again, the food was delicious and the effort was appreciated. This hotel is perfect for relaxation and to enhance that, I’d definitely go to the spa. We went for a full body couples massage and it was amazing! Overall the experience was brilliant. It was quiet, peaceful, beautiful and like something we’ll probably never do again. Would recommend.

We stayed at Matemwe Attitude for our honeymoon, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The staff were amazing: friendly, warm, attentive, and always willing to help. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, and well equipped, with great amenities throughout the resort. We chose the all-inclusive option, and it was absolutely worth it. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all wonderful, with a great variety of food and drinks included. Room service was also good, and when we had a small electrical issue in the room, the team sorted it out within an hour, which we really appreciated. The resort captures the beauty and spirit of Zanzibar so well. From the staff, to the design of the buildings, to the food and overall atmosphere, everything made our honeymoon feel special. We would certainly visit again and highly recommend it.

This is a lovely hotel, it’s beautifully decorated, very stylishly appointed and tasteful. The staff are lovely and helpful. However, would we stay here again? Probably not. As avid sea swimmers, we researched the location so already knew it was very tidal, so perhaps only a small daily window of opportunity to sea swim. However, even when the tide is up, sea swimming off the beach really isn’t feasible. Lots of rocks, sea urchins and dangerous stone fish which even the sturdiest of sea shoes wouldn’t cope with. The hotel does partner with a very good local PADI dive centre which provides snorkel trips as well as the diving. A half day snorkel trip for 2 was $110 total. Yes it’s pricey but they were very good and more importantly, safety conscious. If you prefer pool swimming there are 2 lovely pools and most villas have plunge pools. Another reason, and this is purely personal preference, we would’ve loved a 3rd dinner option. After 1 week, alternating between the buffet and à la carte Fukwe restaurant does get a bit samey, however within the buffet they do mix up the options with “fish” or “Swahili” themed nights. We ate very well, it would’ve just been great to have a 3rd option. Our other reason would be the beach hawkers. Again, some might enjoy their constant banter and attempts to sell you trips. Personally we found them very bothersome and ruined any chance of a nice beach walk or a paddle. We stayed in a Beach Front villa, which was absolutely beautiful. Literally the most comfortable bed we’ve ever had. However, the beach area directly accessible from your villa with your allocated sunbeds is tiny, mostly in the shade and the minute you step over the threshold to the beach, hawkers approach you. I think Attitude are missing a trick here not making this small part of the beach private for hotel guests to enjoy a paddle in peace. This is a new hotel, yes some areas need the vegetation to grow a bit more but it really has been designed beautifully. It’s quite spread out, the beach villas being a good 5 minute walk from reception (a minor annoyance when our room key stopped working a few times). The staff are very sweet and very helpful, but love adopting the “pole pole” slowly slowly phrase when service is slow. All inclusive only includes the local spirits which were perfectly fine. There’s a shop on site for you to refill your minibar from, and usually you’re given some tasty snacks with your drinks. The evening entertainment was fun, mostly a nice singer or group. It sounds like we’re being very negative about the hotel, but I’m hoping this info is seen as useful for future patrons. We genuinely had a lovely relaxing time. I think the Attitude could make a few minor tweaks to make the overall experience go from good to amazing. We are really pleased to have chosen to stay and thank everyone for helping us have a lovely holiday.

So what a way to spend turning 40 (February). Yes this hotel was new and finding its feet but we had an incredible time. The staff were all great, from the bar staff/gardeners/waiting staff, even the GM was an absolutely superstar ( small issue with the shower which was sorted very quickly). Big shout out to Romeo who was from Mauritius and there as party of the customer services. We had the ocean front villa, which if you're going to upgrade is definitely worth it, huge amount of space, turndown service and a great plunge pool. This is our third stay at different "attitude" hotels and will continue to try and get to all of them.

Attitude hotel have created an excellent in keeping hotel villa experience with an eco conscience but providing a delightful tropical holiday supported by outstanding staff with great service -highly recommended
