Just returned from a week at Alua Village. Was concerned about the negative reviews but needn't have worried. The hotel is lovely, beautiful views and a stunning beach. The walk back from the beach is not as bad as you think it will be unless you have mobility issues in which case it would be impossible. Food was good with plenty of choice, drinks were generous and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The room immaculate and cleaned every day with fresh towels. Mattresses could do with replacing as they sank in the middle but may just have been our room and we did tell reception. Its a quiet hotel so better for older kids and adults but we would certainly recommend for a relaxing break.

⭐⭐⭐ Not a 4-star experience — My Favourite Club certainly wasn’t worth the upgrade We stayed at Alua Village Fuerteventura for 9 days and, unfortunately, we left feeling that this is not a 4-star hotel as advertised. I’d give the overall experience 3/5, and that is largely because the staff work incredibly hard and the beach is fantastic. The hotel itself is very tired and dated. Our “sea view” room was, at best, a partial sea view, and the air conditioning was so weak that many nights were unbearably hot. The large pool also needs serious attention. Multiple tiles were missing, with loose, sharp tiles sitting in the bottom of the pool and around the grates. This is not just cosmetic — it is a genuine safety concern. The sunbeds were never cleaned during our stay and some were in poor condition, with torn material around the supports. Despite signs saying not to reserve sunbeds, they are routinely “claimed” from around 7am, with some left unused for most of the day. The food was the biggest disappointment The choice was poor, repetitive and generally overcooked and under-seasoned. By the final few nights, our family simply couldn’t face eating the same selection again, so we had to eat out. The hygiene around the buffet was particularly concerning. Flies were constantly around the food, which was frequently left uncovered, with no obvious food covers, fly zappers or other measures being taken to prevent them. Bread was hard and stale, and we saw hot dogs sitting in lukewarm liquid for so long that they were turning white. Drinks were also very basic. My Favourite Club — not worth the extra money We paid extra for My Favourite Club expecting a more premium experience. Some elements were there, but too many of the benefits were either unavailable, didn’t work or weren’t realistically accessible. We did receive the welcome minibar and bottle of red wine, but the drinks from the minibar couldn’t be taken outside the lounge area. We don’t drink red wine, and there was no alternative offered. The safe didn’t work, there was no personalised check-in or check-out, no early check-in and no late check-out available. The daily water replenishment we expected simply didn’t happen. The “reserved” restaurant area is just a small section consisting of two rows of tables separated by a low partition — certainly not the quiet, exclusive restaurant area you might expect from the description. The a la carte meal was another disappointment. It was fully booked for the entire nine days of our stay, making an advertised benefit completely unusable. The My Favourite Club lounge itself is a nice idea, particularly being able to help yourself to drinks, but the snacks were limited, left uncovered for too long and, again, attracted flies. Premium drinks were available, but there was a very limited range of mixers — even basic options such as slimline tonic or cranberry juice weren’t available. Half of our My Favourite Club terrace was also taped off and unusable throughout our stay. For us, the problem is that benefits need to be realistically available to guests who have paid a premium for them. Entertainment and inclusivity The entertainment team work hard and deserve credit, but there needs to be more professional evening entertainment. The hotel also feels heavily geared towards French guests. Daytime activities and the kids’ offering would benefit enormously from having an English-speaking representative. Our child didn’t use the Kids Club during the entire holiday because there wasn’t an English-speaking member of the team who could build a relationship with him. This needs to be a more inclusive holiday experience for British guests too. Smoking Smoking around the pool and outdoor dining areas was a major issue for us. People were smoking on sunbeds immediately next to children and around families eating, with seemingly little consideration for those nearby. A properly designated smoking area would make a huge difference. The good The staff are the hotel’s biggest asset. They work incredibly hard, despite clearly being understaffed, and they deserve recognition for keeping things going. The beach is also absolutely beautiful and was probably the highlight of our stay. The downside is the huge, steep hill back to the hotel in the heat. A hotel shuttle/buggy service from the beach would be a fantastic addition, particularly for families and anyone with mobility difficulties. Overall Alua Village has potential, but it needs investment and improvement to justify its 4-star status — particularly the rooms, pool maintenance, food, hygiene, staffing levels and inclusivity. 3/5 from us. The staff and the beach saved this holiday. Without those two things, our rating would have been considerably lower. Would we return? No. Would we recommend it as a 4-star hotel? Unfortunately, no.

We came back from Alua Village on Sunday wishing we could have had another week there! Transfer took an hour from the airport, on arrival we were greeted by Alex who was very helpful in explaining where to go and what to do. On the whole all the staff were great, but Alex does deserve a special mention as he was great all week. The resort itself is set on a hillside, with the resort complex at the top and accommodation in 6 blocks down the hill. We found the pools to be clean and well looked after, with some entertaining entertainment by the staff! We also made use of the gym facilities, sauna and steam room. Worth mentioning that although reserving loungers was prohibited, people did it anyway. The food was mostly good, and there was a bit of variety every night, and guests staying for at least 7 nights are able to eat in the à la carte on one of those nights, which was also very good. As well as the buffet and à la carte restaurants, there is a snack bar open for snacks and drinks by the smaller pool from 10.30-6, the other pool bar (which seemed to be a bit hit and miss on opening times), and the main bar upstairs which also houses the entertainment in the evenings. Drinks are all included except for higher end, and uses a token system so you exchange a token for a glass and get the token back when you finish. Entertainment on the whole was very good, especially the African acrobats on the Saturday, but trying to follow it in 3 languages can be challenging. The only downside we found is the walk to the beach, which is very steep, and hard work if disabled. We found taking a taxi to Morro Jable (20€ round trip) was much better as you can access beach on the flat. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday and hope we can go back in the future!

Had the best 7 night stay here and we are all in agreement that we will be back! We were in a My Favourite Club double room with sea view (we could see a bit of it!). The room was cleaned everyday and beds made up. The welcome mini bar was great. Room was a nice size for the 3 of us. I was a bit of a fussy eater so stuck to mostly the same food although there was always plenty of options to choose from on offer. We arrived at 11pm at night and was given access to the restaurant for food and drinks which we thought was so accommodating. Our welcome from both the My Favourite Club reception and main reception was lovely, they were so just so nice and helpful which was very welcome after a long day of travelling. It was very windy the week we were there but still lovely and warm. My Favourite Club lounge was brilliant for chilling with a vast range of drinks to help yourself to as well as a good selection of snacks. The temperature of the pools took our breath away, literally, but was ok once you were in. Didn’t experience the entertainment but the staff are hard working and always tried to engage us in activities, but not in a pushy way, so always felt included. Like other reviews, there are bits of the hotel that could do with a bit sprucing up but this didn’t put us off loving our stay.

We're just back from a lovely week here, and we really enjoyed our holiday. Location - the views of the coastline from the hotel are stunning. The wind makes the heat bearable, and it's just bliss lying on the sunbeds and relaxing. A major bonus for us was the fact that the pools and the terrace area were never crowded; we never had a problem finding sunbeds and the whole area was spotless. The beach is a ten minute walk away and is absolutely stunning, but certainly a steep walk back to the hotel ( helps burn the calories though!) Atmosphere- the hotel( as made clear in the brochure) is predominantly geared towards French visitors, and yes, the entertainment team were mainly French but were just as welcoming to us as to other nationalities. The evening entertainment was disappointing, as during our week stay, there was only one professional act ( a magician). The remainder of the time was the French animation team and it was fun for kids, but pretty awful for adults. We upgraded to My Favourite Club, which was well worth the extra money. The lounge area is fantastic, being able to help yourself to a range of drinks and snacks, and also the beautiful terrace which boasts a beautiful view of the area. You could also choose to use one of the sunbeds up here, although we didn't bother since they were so plentiful nearer the pool. We were in room 6102 - which is both close to the hotel main pool area, but also situated towards the end of the row of rooms, meaning we had an amazing view of the sea, beach and surrounding area. I have to say that the air con was disappointing...it was very weak and I felt uncomfortably warm at night, such a shame because the room itself was lovely. Restaurant- there is a wide variety of food with something for everyone, and the fish was excellent! The salads were fresh and plentiful. Some of the meat dishes were less impressive, for example over-cooked pork loin or gristly beef. That said, the roast lamb was exceptional- it was tender and served in huge, thick steak-like portions! The desserts were ok, but far too many cheap mousse based concoctions for our liking. A bonus was the fact that wine was provided in bottles rather than on tap.Breakfast was great, absolutely everything you could need and really loved the pastries on offer. We loved eating on the terrace, it was comfortable, situated poolside and hardly any insects, which was brilliant! The restaurant is somewhat let down by the staff, many of whom seem to resent the presence of guests, and I can honestly say not one member of staff smiled. I am fluent in Spanish, and tried to engage some of the staff in friendly conversation but it was not wanted or appreciated. I found this odd- we've traveled widely and it's unusual to encounter such indifferent staff. Having said that, they performed their jobs well, and plates were cleared promptly etc. Overall, this holiday was perfect for what we needed ( pure relaxation) and hopefully the hotel will take on board feedback, as we'd like to return in the future.
