Sunset at the Palms 🌴 is the most relaxing vacation. The staff is amazing. They treat you like family. One of the bar tenders said the secret to the drinks is making it with love. I feel like all the staff puts love in everything they do.

I had been looking forward to staying here, for some time. Sadly, the overall experience did not come up to expectation, due to several disappointing incidents. The Room I arrived late in the evening, about 10:30, and was shown to my room. I went to use the bathroom, to find the toilet flush handle was very loose, and would not always produce a flush. In addition, when I went to wash my face in the hand basin, I found that there was no plug. I reported these two faults to reception the following morning, to be told that there were no basin plugs available anywhere in the hotel, but they would try and get me one. This had not arrived by the time I checked out eleven days later. What is the point of a wash basin without a plug? The faulty toilet flush was eventually fixed three days later, after several attempts. In most hotels I have stayed at, Housekeeping usually do a final check before "releasing" the room to a new guest. This obviously did not happen in my case. I had a leak from my air-conditioning unit one evening when I returned to my room to get ready for dinner. I stayed on the balcony whilst the handyman attempted a fix. After about 20 mins he came to tell me he had fixed it and left. Ten minutes later, the unit started leaking again. This time it was fixed properly! Otherwise, a good sized room, with enough storage for a single guest. I think that two guests might find the space insufficient. Warning, around the bed was a wooden rail, about 4-5inches in width, encircling the entire bed. On several occasions I forgot it was there and had bruises on my shins as a result. I could see no purpose for this rail. There was a nice-sized balcony accessed through some french doors, with a table and two chairs and a double sun lounger. At the bottom of the french doors was a gap of over an inch wide and about six inches high, due to the door warping, which meant not only that I could not lock the door completely, but it also allowed warm air into the room as well as small winged insects! The room was well cleaned during my stay. The Gardens The gardens were beautiful, do try and make time for the garden tour. However, the paths showed signs of dilapidation, with the surface disintegrating, making it uneven to walk across and the wood, on some of the wooden structures such as the bridges over the soakaways, showed signs of splitting. Poor Communication During the stay, the hotel experienced a power cut, which knocked out the air-conditioning and the wifi for a time. There was no attempt by management to keep the guests informed, unless you asked at reception. It would have been good if a notice could have been fixed to a board in reception, keeping us up-to-date. I have some minor mobility issues and to go all the way to the beach to find that the wifi had not been restored was irritating. Again, a notice in the lobby would have sufficed. The Service Apart form the incidents I have mentioned, the service was generally good. Unlike some other posters, I did not experience any rude or unfriendly staff members. I was particularly impressed that, by the third day, many of the staff addressed me by my first name! The Food and drink Food was not bad, but a little repetitive. Unfortunately, by the fourth day, I started finding shards of bone in some of the servings, particularly the pork and beef, and stopped choosing them at lunch and dinner, which rather reduced my choices! I did mention it to one of the waiters, but I am not sure any action was taken since, when I did pluck up the courage to try them again later in my stay, the shards were still evident. I had no problem with the quality of the drinks. The Stomach Bug On my seventh day, in common with several other guests, I experienced a stomach upset, which I was able to treat over the next 24 hours with Imodium that I had brought with me. Looking to replace these at the hotel guest store, I was shocked to find that a packet of six tablets was on sale for USD20. At home, they are available for a quarter of that cost, it is sad that the hotel wished to profiteer through a guest's misfortune. I also experienced a further stomach upset on my last day, which made the flight home challenging. Since I never left the hotel during my stay, I have to assume that I picked up the bugs within the hotel. The Beach Unlike some other posters, I was always able to find a sun lounger in the shade. The beach bar service was always friendly and efficient. I only ate there one lunch time, since I usually tried to get back to the main hotel before the afternoon storms. Of the eleven days I was there, I think only two days were free of rain in the early afternoon! Yes, there were beach sellers, but I was always able to decline, and they never bothered me again. Repeat Visit? It is unlikely that I will visit again. This was my sixth visit to Jamaica over a twenty year period and I found that the other hotels in which I stayed were better value for money. Sadly, since my wife died two years ago, I am unable to return to two of my favourites, The Sandals Royal Plantation and Couples Sans Souci, in Ochos Rios. The hotel would benefit from a top to bottom audit to address the issues I mention above.

This was my second time at SATP and again it is the best resort I have ever stayed. Let's start with reception. Everyone who works up front is super nice and very helpful. Whenever I had a question I was always answered with a smile. Everyone from the waitresses to the bartenders were fantastic! My housekeeper Lavern was excellent! My room was always clean and she made the cutest animals with the towels and she was super friendly. Make sure you stop and get a massage from Davina. She gave me the most relaxing massage ever! Im definitely gonna get another one next year. The food is fantastic! Every day is a different theme, but Jamaican night was my favorite. The chef Showcase and lotus leaf restaurant are a must! The beach is beautiful and the people that work there are very friendly and helpful! I cant wait to go back next year! You are treated not as a guest but as family. I cannot say enough about Sunset at the Palms. Its quiet, relaxing and enjoyable and I cant wait til I go back next year!
