Kenya Bay Beach

Enjoyed our stay very much. Great food. Very clean. Friendly staff. The best…. Omari, Joseph and Abu in the water sports centre. They completely made the holiday for us. Very knowledgeable and happy to share loads of information about the local wildlife and history, always with a smile. Top guys we will always remember.

It’s always disappointing writing such a negative review. I travelled to Kenya Bay with my family, hoping to enjoy the North Coast, but we had a terrible experience at the hotel. Firstly, half the hotel is under renovation, and a lot of the amenities were closed or unavailable for the 4 days we were there. None of this was mentioned prior to booking the hotel. We got ‘newly refurbished rooms’, but they were not completely done (as you’ll see in the pictures I attached). The showers barely worked and didn’t have hot water, the sliding doors wouldn’t lock and there were so many unfinished areas in our rooms. You’d expect a hotel in Mombasa to have a functioning pool, but what we found at Kenya Bay was a hazard for a pool. The pool was closed for 2 days for ‘treatment’, but after 2 days the pool water was milky from the chlorine and our eyes burned. But that’s not the worst part, the tiles from the pool were coming out. It was so easy to pull them out of the pool and the risk of cutting yourself was really high, and there was a whole section in the pool with tarp as its floor. The hotel has 2 restaurants, but we were unable to order food from them. One of the restaurants closed at 6pm, we asked to order some food at 5pm but we were told that the chef was not around, this was the case for the 4 days we were there. And worst of all we asked our travel advisor from Exotic Tours to get in contact with Kenya Bay to inform them about the issues we faced, with the pictures i have attached, but they didn’t respond. Before booking here make sure you don’t run into the same issues we had, there are many hotels that are worth checking out.

Location is good with good access to beach Rooms are clean very dated but clean Luckily the staff make this place I don’t mean management Firstly when we arrived we was horrified to see pool dry and dug up We was not aware of this Now to the second Very small pool we noticed it was filthy but on the second day we went on sarfari come back after a couple of days and pool was still dirty following morning pool guy vacuuming the dirt of the bottom but no treatment so I seen we my own eyes the water had been filthy for at least 5 day this breeds germs I went to speak to someone in front desk they told me to come back at 10am to see a manger got there and no manger wanted to speak to me so got in touch with tui rep Franklin explained what was going on Also I mite add tiles was missing of the bottom of pool as well Franklin was in agreement the pool was not fit to get into/ not fit for purpose and moved us hotels immediately And while all this was going on still not one senior member of staff would speak to us even walked straight past us and drove away
