Ah, Brennia Kottefaru — what a place. A beautiful island with pristine beaches, well‑kept grounds, and a size that’s perfect for exploring on foot. Even at around 85% occupancy, there’s plenty of beach space and shaded walkways. However, while the resort may have earned its 5‑star status early on, it’s beginning to feel a little ambitious as time goes by. The staff are genuinely lovely: warm, joyful, and eager to help. Our welcome at the airport and transfers to and from the resort were outstanding and smooth. The resort welcome was also good, with a friendly orientation and paper maps provided on arrival. But once we reached our villa by buggy, there was very little additional guidance — not even a functioning hotel information page on the TV which could have been more informative about the hotel facilities, doo's and don'ts etc. Buggies are complimentary but operate on a best‑effort basis, so expect to wait. Most areas are walkable, and the trails are well signposted, but reception can be difficult to reach by phone, especially during busy arrival/departure periods. The main pool is a good size and very clean. You’ll need to bring your villa’s beach towels with you. The nearby toilets are spotless. A word of warning: the composite decking gets extremely hot, so footwear is essential unless you fancy burnt feet. There are a couple of shops with the usual island‑inflated prices, but they’re handy for essentials and souvenirs and will act as an exchange if you need additional currency for tips. We stayed in a standard lagoon‑side water villa with a pool. It was pleasant but clearly showing its age. Loose bathroom tiles, shaky balustrades, and some questionable decking made things feel a little tired. (See first few photos.) It seems this side of the island is due for renovation, unlike the sunset side, which appears recently updated. We had issues with both the telephone and air‑conditioning, but our villa housekeeper resolved them quickly and cheerfully. Bathroom amenities are provided eg: shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes. Fresh towels and flannels arrive daily. There’s a hairdryer, and irons can be requested from reception. We had a couple of items laundered for the journey home; reasonably priced and done beautifully. The lagoon side has plenty of fish, though you need to swim closer to the breakers for variety. Snorkelling trips are available at extra cost. I enjoyed a lovely encounter with a turtle, though the fish variety was limited. I hear the manta trip is better. The Lime Restaurant staff are wonderfully attentive and happy to explain the daily themed menu. Sadly, the food itself doesn’t match their efforts — more 3‑star than 5‑star. Drinks can’t be taken between the restaurant and main bar, which feels unnecessarily restrictive. The main bar is comfortable with lots of outdoor seating. Staff are excellent and somehow manage to find you even when you’re tucked away among palms and flowers. Entertainment is dated and finishes around 10pm. A dedicated disco night would probably suit the younger crowd, who made up roughly 65% of guests. The gardens around reception are beautifully kept, and the walkways smell wonderful with blooming flowers. The water villas, however, would benefit from some added colour/greenery to soften the “holiday camp” feel and help with identifying villa numbers at night, as the bright lights obscure the plates. Umbrellas are provided for downpours, but be prepared for a wet bathroom floor afterwards — a quirk of the villa design. Ultimately if you book this with a 3 to 4 star hotel in mind then you will not be dissapointed and will get what you pay for.

Our 4th Visit to the Maldives – and Brennia Has Stolen Our Hearts ❤️ This was our fourth visit to the Maldives, and once again, we were reminded that every island has its own unique beauty. It is almost impossible to compare them, because the magic that every corner of this incredible island nation has to offer is truly unforgettable. That is why we know we will keep coming back to the Maldives year after year. What makes Brennia stand out from all the resorts we have visited so far, besides its breathtaking beauty, is without a doubt its amazing team. The level of service we experienced here is not something that should be considered the standard—it is truly exceptional. Every single member of staff we met during our stay made us smile and somehow managed to make an already perfect day even better. Their warmth, kindness and genuine hospitality made us feel truly welcome and cared for throughout our entire stay. We also have to mention the food! The selection, variety and flavors were definitely the best we have experienced so far in the Maldives. A special thank you to our wonderful host, Bishmi, who warmly welcomed us and showed us the beauty and charm of this island. We would also like to thank our lovely waitress, Rupa, who made sure that every moment in the restaurant was perfect. And, of course, a very special thank you to our housekeeper and artist, Santosh. Without him, these days simply wouldn’t have been the same. We are truly happy and grateful to have met you all! An absolute masterpiece of a resort with world-class amenities. I stay in the water villa was nothing short of spectacular. The villa felt like an expansive luxury suite, boasting a massive private deck and a pristine plunge pool that directly faced the breathtaking evening sunset over the wild blue lagoon. The room furnishings were incredibly comfortable, showcasing a high-quality finish with a beautiful, vibrant touch.The island itself strikes the perfect balance of feeling fresh and new while enjoying a period of perfect maturity. The lush greenery is growing rapidly and is meticulously maintained across the entire property.Dining was a major highlight. This is a solid midrange resort that although not quite on a par with 5 star luxury, it is a beautiful island at a very reaonable price point. We have just returned from a 15 night break and had a great time. There were a lot more families and young children than we are used to seeing in the Maldives but to be fair, it was not an issue. Like most resorts, everyone seems to disappear during the day and only surface when it's time to eat! Highlights - seallane transfer, check- in and check-out. Faultless. So well organised and efficient. Without doubt the best of the 3 resorts we have visited so far. - beach was amazing. Stretches right around the Island and you can walk it in around 20 minutes or so. Most villas are secluded by shrubs and trees helping to give it a real desert island paradise feel. - snorkelling with no less than 8 mantas! (This was on a paid for excursion and not the free house reef trip). It was a lot more tiring than expected though due to the strong currents. Thank you to the boat crew for taking such good care of us both. - the fillet seak in the a la carte Sunset Bar & Grill. Worth every dollar and so good, we went back a second time! Not many others there on the nights we went, helping make it feel a little more intimate. - beach pool villa - very spacious and comfortable. Great air con - and choice if twk showers! - excellent service through-out. Friendly, attentive, engaging. Everything we have come to expect when visiting this beautiful part of the world. Keep that Mexican wave going - viva the underdog!!! Weather warning. Whilst the prices in August are generally a lot lower than Easter, the savings comes at a cost. Not only did we experience a fair amount of cloud, wind, and rain during our stay, it was particularly heavy during the first 5 days. We have experienced monsoon season before at a different resort but this time around it had a bigger impact on our ability to enjoy the snorkeling. Underwater visibility was often quite poor and sometimes, the current was just too strong for a couple of novice swimmers. In fact, a number of boat excursions to the house reef were cancelled due to safety concerns.
