Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

We recently visited Four Seasons Resort Seychelles on Mahé and, unfortunately, left feeling quite disappointed by the overall experience. We started with lunch at Kannel, where the service was initially very good. We would particularly like to recognise the buggy driver, who was genuinely warm and welcoming. When we mentioned that we had recently stayed at Four Seasons Desroches, he thoughtfully suggested that we speak with the resort, as there can sometimes be gestures extended to guests who have stayed at another Four Seasons property. It was a small interaction, but one that felt genuinely hospitable. The food, however, was fairly average. The pizza was good, but the tiramisu was disappointing and barely touched. We explained that it simply wasn't to our taste, yet the interaction felt rather transactional rather than focused on our overall experience. The real disappointment came at the beach. We completely understood that we were not staying at Mahé and had no expectation of special treatment. We simply asked whether there might be some flexibility given that we had recently stayed at another Four Seasons property. The beach attendant initially welcomed me warmly when she heard about our stay at Desroches and kindly offered me a sunbed. I was completely transparent that we were not staying at Mahé. When my partner joined me, however, her attitude changed noticeably. After asking for my partner's surname and apparently realising that we had stayed at another resort between our Four Seasons stays, the warmth disappeared. She did not offer my partner a sunbed, a towel or any assistance, despite it being obvious that we were together and sharing the same bed. Instead, she stood nearby chatting with another member of staff while repeatedly looking towards us. Whether or not they were discussing us, it certainly felt that way. The experience was uncomfortable enough that I wanted to leave immediately. My partner and son were swimming and wanted to stay, so we remained. This was not about the price or access to the facilities. It was about the sudden change in attitude and how unwelcome it made us feel. What made it particularly disappointing was our recent week at Four Seasons Desroches, where the service felt genuinely warm, personal and effortless. We felt valued simply as guests. That is what we associate with Four Seasons. Unfortunately, our experience at Mahé felt very different. The property is beautiful, but true luxury hospitality is ultimately about how you make people feel. On this occasion, we did not feel welcome, and the experience has unfortunately left us unlikely to return to this property or recommend it to others.

My wife and I returned to the Seychelles in August, 40 years after spending our honeymoon there in 1986. As a special treat we decided to spend our Ruby Wedding anniversary at Four Seasons Mahe. We had high expectations but what we experienced blew us away! The resort itself is beautiful, located at Petit Anse, a gorgeous sheltered bay with pristine powder like sands, luxuriant tropical foliage and crystal clear waters full of fish and corals. We were allocated village 101, a hilltop ocean view villa. Absolutely amazing. When we saw it for the first time we were quite emotional, simply fantastic. The whole resort can be described as understated high end luxury. Food and beverage were fantastic, as expected in truth. However, we would both like to clearly state that the highlight of our wonderful stay was the lovely staff. Guest Relations Director, Mr James Edwards, could not have done more to make our special anniversary so wonderful. James and his team around the resort were so helpful, friendly, generous and a pleasure to share time with. From buggy drivers Neville and Colin, to all the restaurant staff at Zez and elsewhere around the resort we would like to say a massive thank you to all the lovely people we met. We have travelled the world and stayed in many high end hotels and resorts. Four Seasons Mahe tops the lot. It is a special place for us with wonderful memories of the place and people which will stay with us forever. Apologies to individual team members whom I’ve not mentioned by name (too many in truth). Very disappointing experience at Four Seasons Seychelles. We arranged a table for lunch directly with the restaurant and were told to return later. Two and a half hours later, we came back as agreed, only to be told that we would not be accommodated because we were not hotel guests. If this was the hotel’s policy, we should have been informed from the beginning rather than having our time wasted. Extremely poor communication and not the level of hospitality expected from the Four Seasons brand.

Our experience at the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles was extremely disappointing and certainly not what we expected from a hotel carrying the Four Seasons name. At approximately 11:00, we personally spoke with the restaurant manager and explained that we wanted to have lunch at the property. We were informed that we could return at 13:00 for a table. Based on this information, we left and specifically returned two hours later as instructed. When we arrived at 13:00, however, we were informed that there was no table available for us and that we could not be accommodated as we were not hotel guests. We were further advised that this was in line with a directive from the General Manager. This was particularly frustrating because we had spoken directly with the restaurant manager two hours earlier and had specifically been told to return at 13:00. Had we been informed from the beginning that non-residents would not be accepted, we could have simply made alternative lunch arrangements instead of waiting and returning to the hotel. What made the experience even more disappointing was that the restaurant clearly had many available tables, both shaded and outdoors. We were also in need of drinking water, yet we were still denied service. We were not expecting complimentary access to the resort or its facilities — we were willing to pay for our lunch, drinks and water. We completely understand that a hotel may have policies regarding access for non-residents and may need to prioritize its registered guests. The issue here was the contradictory information we received and the way the situation was handled. Being told by the restaurant manager to return at a specific time, only to return and be refused, demonstrates a serious lack of communication and service consistency. For a luxury property of this calibre, we expected a much higher standard of hospitality and professionalism. Policies are understandable, but guests and visitors should be given clear and consistent information from the outset. Unfortunately, this experience left us with a very poor impression of the Four Seasons Seychelles and is certainly not the level of service we would associate with the Four Seasons brand.

The great thing about a Four Seasons stay is consistency. The Four Seasons Mahe is no exception. We found this to be a perfect spot for rest and relaxation. While the resort is spread out and step in some places, that’s a major part of its charm. The views are just spectacular from everywhere. The villas themselves are very private and create the feeling that you are in your own private oasis. We have stayed at many Four Seasons resorts, in villas, and of all of our experiences, we think Four Seasons Mahe may be our favorite. All the main areas of the resort are grouped together for convenience, and getting around is a simple call or text on the Four Seasons app. A driver was always available within just a few minutes to shuttle us to wherever we needed. The beach staff was great and always available to make sure we had everything we may possibly need to make a beach day enjoyable. Cold water, towels, food, drinks. Anything you need they make happen. Special thanks to Jonathan for his exceptional hospitality. We enjoyed dining at all the restaurants. The steak shack experience on the beach was a treat, and the amazing Indian cuisine at the Kannal bar, with special hospitality from Chakana and Yvonne, was most memorable. Many thanks to both Bianca and Moe for a gracious visit to Four Seasons Mahe. We definitely look forward to a return trip in the future.
