I am posting this review to warn future guests about unmaintained electric equipment and an aggressive response from hotel management at Occidental Eden Beruwala. Our stay was completely ruined by a severe safety hazard and the hotel manager’s refusal to take accountability. While ironing, pressing the steam button caused the hotel provided iron to immediately die and spew a hot, chemically contaminated discharge. This wasn't a simple water mark, the residue completely stripped the green dye right off a quality shirt from Dilly & Carlo, permanently ruining it. When reported, the hotel manager refused to take responsibility for an obvious equipment failure. Instead, I was met with shifting excuses, first claiming my shirt was already wet, then claiming I held the iron at an angle, and ultimately accusing me of "mishandling" the appliance to avoid compensating me for the ruined property. There was clearly mineral leftover inside the water tank that caused this. The pre inspection team did not do their job properly before handing me the iron for use. Severe chemical damage: A quality brand shirt rules out unstable fabric dye. The appliance discharged corrosive residue that stripped fabric color. Top-down failure: While lower staff had no choice but to follow orders, the hotel manager personally chose to question my integrity rather than resolve an obvious defect, acting like they were doing me a favour by not charging for the iron, which was disgusting. Standard operation: Pressing a steam button during routine ironing is expected use, not guest abuse. Safety & liability hazard: An amenity short-circuiting and spewing hot discharge mid-use is a direct burn and electrocution risk. What if I got electrocuted or my skin got burnt? I wonder what their excuse for this would be. Unsafe maintenance and a manager who gaslights guests to dodge responsibility. Will never visit or recommend any of their hotels. Proceed with extreme caution when using electric equipment here.
