Dioklecijan Hotel & Residence

We stayed at the Dioklecijan Hotel & Residence between 8th and 12th September as a base for discovering Split and surrounding areas. Firstly, I would like to say that although this is advertised as being in the Old Town on the Jet2 website, it is a 20 minutes walk away from the Old Town and located within a residential area. This wasn't an issue for us, but the uphill return from the old town meant we used Uber to return at the end of our day at a small cost of about £5-£6. The hotel itself is a hidden gem, its boutique style and high end finishes/touches puts it firmly within a 4* rating. The hotel is made up of 7 floors with the 7th floor being the roof terrace with bar, pool, hot tub and loungers. The use of space within this area was planned really well and after a return from the Old Town, it was nice to finish the afternoon in the hot tub or on a lounger with a glass of bubbly or cocktail watching the sunset. The area was busy at times but we always managed to find somewhere to sit or lounge. The beating heart of this hotel is the fantastic staff. Shout out to William and Bou in the ground floor bar who engaged with us in such a welcoming way every night - Bou's pina colada's were superb. The dining room staff at breakfast and in the evening were very attentive and I would like to praise each and every one of them for making our stay so enjoyable. We were based in room 305 which overlooked the residential area with a distant view of the sea. The room was very spacious and I can honestly say that it had everything we needed for our stay. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. We had plenty of wardrobe and storage space, and the room included a complimentary safe, toiletries, robes and slippers. There were many plug sockets which were positioned in areas of need which isn't always the case in many hotels we have stayed in. The bathroom had a fan which actually dispersed the steam within the room and had a large shower, bidet, hairdryer, towels and face cloths. Despite the location which seemed a little rundown, the area was perfectly safe to walk around in. There were only a few things that could be improved upon. We were staying half board and the evening menu we were given only consisted of 2 options each day, the dessert was always a choice of cheesecake, tiramisu or chocolate cake. The starter option never consisted of soup but we always asked for soup as the options on the set menu were not very good, the waitress happily switched to the soup for us which was available on the main menu but it would have been better to provide 3 options for each course to allow for allergys, intolerances etc. This was my first gripe, my second issue was that we paid 24 Euros for a bottle of prosecco on several occasions that was misleadingly NOT prosecco. Having travelled many times around Italy, and also drinking prosecco a lot at home, I know that real prosecco will always have D.O.C. on the bottle - the sparkling wine provided to us as prosecco was a 'prosecco type' sparkling wine which we ascertained by doing a google search. I think it is misleading to sell something that is priced at a higher rate but which isn't the real thing. This should be changed to 'sparkling wine' on the menu and the price adjusted accordingly, or better still source real prosecco and sell that. All in one we had a lovely stay and I would recommend the hotel.

Had a 7 night stay in August at Dioklecijan Hotel and overall, my friend and I had a wonderful stay. The neighborhood is quiet and it is a 15-20 minute walk to and from the Old Town. We felt safe walking around the neighborhood. There is a supermarket right next to the hotel. Pros: We had the room Tetida which was on the 3rd floor. Beds were comfortable and room was spacious. The rooftop was our favorite part of the hotel. It had a jacuzzi, pool, gym, spa and SAUNA. I made sure to use all amenities, especially the pool, gym and sauna. I love that the gym was equipped with weights (dumbbells and kettlebells), cardio machines and even workout bands. The facility was clean and well managed. The dining room was where we had our breakfast which was delicious and included a variety of cooked foods, desserts, fruits, meats and cheese. The staff, especially on the rooftop were absolutely amazing. Shout out to Queenie, Ivan, Javier and Ellen! They all provided such great service and were always friendly and kind. I never do spa services at a hotel but I heard good things about the spa so i booked a 1 hour full body massage with Ellen. Hands down, 10/10, loved my massage. Ellen’s hands are gifted and she worked knots i didn’t even know I had. Cons: The wifi in the room Tetida was absolutely awful. We noticed this on our first night and brought it up to the front desk. We were told that wifi was usually good and they don’t really receive complaints. That may be the case but for our room specifically, it was bad. It didn’t get better and this was one of the most annoying parts of our stay. The wifi everywhere else in the hotel was great. Just a heads up, if anyone is staying in that room. Although the breakfast was delicious, I wish we had some variety in the hot foods section. These two were our major complaints during our stay. Overall, I had a great stay at this hotel and I highly recommend, especially for people who don’t want to be staying in the Old Town. I enjoyed the amenities at the rooftop and the staff were wonderful.

Location is a 15 minute walk from the Old Town - great to be away from the hustle & bustle. We walked into town every day but got Ubers back up the hill in the 38c heat - cost around £6! The rooms were great, spacious with huge beds. Mini bar reasonably priced. Rituals soaps were a nice touch. Cute little balcony with plants with sea views. Lots of reviews about the pool not opening until 1pm, which we were worried about! It opens 9am - 10pm in peak season, so was lush after a day trip out to come back to the rooftop for a dip - perfect viewing spot from the pool for sunset too! Mountain View’s from the hot tub were lovely too. Drinks round the pool were great, tasty cocktails. The ladies behind the bar were fabulous! We had a club sandwich round the pool a couple of times which was really good. Breakfast was disappointing but then were English in a foreign country so can’t expect to cater for everyone! The coffee machine and fruit juices are quite awful tasting. Pastries etc all good but don’t expect a decent cooked breakfast. Tommys supermarket underneath for any essentials, and better coffee & good cake in the patisserie downstairs! All in all a great hotel

Lovely clean hotel, excellent breakfast attentive staff and comfortable room. Loved the-roof top pool / bar and service was superb/ was a good 20 minute walk into Split and the local area did feel a little run down around the hotel which I was worried about when we arrived but the hotel itself was excellent. A good base for exploring but it was a little further out than I expected. However can’t fault the service and team and they even marked my husbands birthday when we were there with a piece of cake at breakfast and wine and chocolate in our room which was so lovely! So overall a great hotel

We had a great stay at Diocletian Hotel & Residence. The new wellness area looks amazing – you can really tell it has been recently renovated. Everything is clean, modern, and beautifully designed. The staff in the wellness were so kind and friendly, and they made us feel really welcome. The same goes for everyone else in the hotel – the service was excellent from the moment we arrived until we left. You can tell they really care about their guests and pay attention to the little details. We had a very relaxing stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. Looking forward to coming back!
