Hotel Osam

It was a pleasant experience to be showed to the room and get explained the facilities of the hotel by the receptionist, not the “here’s your room number and the lift is over there”. The hotel itself is in a perfect location and at a very quiet spot on the Supetar promenade. We had a lovely two room sea view apartment with balcony. The breakfast in the olive grove is very relaxing and quiet , just what you want in the morning , same for the evening dinner. The staff can’t do enough for you and smiling none stop as we were told they like working here. We asked for brown bread and the hotel kitchen was happy to bake it for us. Great 10 night stay, meeting nice people .

A nice boutique hotel, with superb food and mostly lovely staff, spoiled by a few problems. A real shame. We stayed for 3 nights from 4-7 August. Arrival 1/5. We arrived by ferry from Hvar Island, as we island hopped from Dubrovnik to Split. We had problems from the start. Our original room was located on the ground floor. The lady on reception kindly showed us to our room and had some difficulty opening the large front sliding door. When we first left our room, the door came off its hinges. Then later, after the door was fixed, we were unable to lock our door, as the key would not turn. It all seemed to be our fault and an inconvenience. Not a great start. They kindly found us another room, but the problems continued. Location 5/5. Directly on the sea front with a nice promenade in both directions. The ferry port and the harbor are to the right. There’s also lots of restaurants there, a number of shops and 2 supermarkets. Room 2/5. Room 105 on the first floor. A spacious, tidy and modern room. A very comfy king bed with nice quality sheets. Sofa, table and tv. Large open wardrobe with lots of storage. I don’t like open wardrobes, as they make the room look very untidy. Key operated safe. Bedside cabinets with lights and power sockets. Nice quality flooring. Fridge, kettle with tea and coffee items. We constantly had a strange and very loud noise from the next door room, which sounded like a water pipe problem. It went on occasionally all day and night. Similarly the aircon made a constant noise like a distant car alarm. To get a good night’s sleep, we had to periodically turn the aircon off overnight and wear earplugs. We found the experience unpleasant. There’s a small but pleasant balcony overlooking the pool sunbathing area. Good for drying clothes and nice for an after dinner glass of wine watching the ferries. The noise from outside was zero and the window shuttering was great and shut out all of the early morning light. Bathroom 4/5. Looked new and with quality fitments. Lovely large shower. Hairdryer. Could do with storage under the sink. Even when the extractor fan was switched off, there was still something making a noise. It just added to the overall room noise problem. Breakfast 5/5. For a small hotel, the choice was excellent. Lovely fruits, nice meat and cheese choices, cereals, breads and pastries. Nice cooked food with freshly made scrambled eggs and lovely fried eggs. Fine coffee. A lovely outdoor setting. Dinner 5/5. Excellent. The hotel’s restaurant is Otok. It has been in the Michelin Guide for a few years. We were on half board and had a slightly different menu to the a la carte menu. Outside guests are welcome. The setting is the same for breakfast, but the atmosphere under the gentle lighting among the olive trees for dinner is superb. For half board, you have 3 courses. There’s a good choice for each course. Stand outs for us were the prawn skewers for starter, sea bass for a main and cheesecake for dessert. We enjoyed everything we ate over the 3 nights. I found the portions a bit large for me. Service was friendly, efficient and the staff always seemed under control, even when the restaurant was busy. It’s a really lovely place to eat dinner. Rooftop bar 5/5. Superb. Definitely not to be missed. A fab setting for a pre dinner cocktail as the sun goes down. Friendly service. Very chic - we loved it. We went here every evening. Pool area 4/5. A pleasant and very clean pool. A bit small for a long swim, but great for a cool off. Plenty of quality loungers. We never found it too busy. Good views of the harbor and ferry port. A nice place to chill. Plenty of parasols if you want shade. Overall 3/5. A lovely chic, boutique hotel with generally friendly and highly efficient staff. Great breakfast and superb evening meals in Otok. Great location. Our experience was spoiled by the hassle on arrival and the constant and sleep disturbing noises in the room. Perhaps we were just unlucky. We feel a bit sad that we had a slightly tarnished experience. The hotel manager should stay in room 105 and see if it is a relaxing experience.

Sad to post this as it seemed like a nice place and the cocktails we had were truly amazing. We came in big groups of us and ordered cocktails. We were one of the only ones there. There were big orders, and add on drinks as a lot of us kept coming in waves. The waiter got seemingly frustrated with us continually ordering and all of a sudden came up and started shouting in Croatian at one of us who only spoke english and didn’t understand Croatian. He was saying how we are treating him like a slave and made rude remarks. Things turned nasty from there, and we were threatened to be beaten up after their shift. After WE tried to apologise, they had the nerve to ask for a tip. This all happened in front of children we had with us too. Days later we found out some of our other friends stayed at this hotel and also found the waiters rude and unwelcoming. Perhaps they were having a bad few days, but what went on was extremely unprofessional and they clearly did not care how they treat their guests as far as actually saying they were happy to put their job on the line due to ‘disrespect’ of how we kept walking him around and wanting more drinks. Maybe it’s time the said waiter looks for a job that doesn’t require working closely with tourists.

We had an amazing stay in Supetar at the Hotel Osam. From the moment we were welcomed by Edita we knew we would enjoy our stay. The room we had was pool view - a little small but very comfortable with great a/c and small balcony with comfy seating. Leana looked after our room and it was cleaned beautifully every day. All the restaurant and bar staff were very friendly, spoke immaculate English and nothing was too much trouble. The view from the roof terrace was stunning. We also used the restaurant and sunbeds on the quayside at the sister hotel in Milna which was easily accessible by bus. Supetar is a wonderful place with a pretty harbour, lots of lovely shops and restaurants and easy walk to beaches where you can swim in the beautiful sea and rent sunbeds. Bus travel and boat trips allow you to explore more of the island and other islands close by. There are regular ferries which take under an hour from Split and we loved watching them come and go in the harbour along with other small boats. We would also like to thank Sasha and Nikola for their enthusiastic customer service and helpfulness. Breakfast was lovely each day on the terrace as was the supper we had one evening there. A little out of town but we would definitely recommend a lunch or dinner at Nona Roka for the views. Thank you Hotel Osam for a memorable first visit to Croatia!
