Hersonissos Village

We had our reservations before arriving after reading a few mixed reviews online, but after a two-week stay, we can happily confirm that most of the negative comments were completely unfounded. ​Yes, there is a sharp incline coming up from the entrance gate —it will definitely test your legs—but what greets you at the top makes every single step worth it. The resort's elevated position offers breathtaking panoramic vistas across the Cretan coastline. During the day, you get front-row seats to dramatic golden hour sunsets, where rays of light cut through the clouds and glisten over the calm sea against a backdrop of sweeping mountain silhouettes. Come twilight, watching the soft pastel sky and the rising moon cast a cool glow over the town and bay below is simply magical. ​Highlights of Our Stay: ​Value for Money & Rooms: The hotel delivers fantastic value for money. Our room had a lovely traditional character with a wonderfully spacious balcony and simple air conditioning that did the job just fine. The beds were a bit uncomfortable for our personal liking, though that is likely just down to individual preference rather than a fault of the hotel. ​Exceptional Staff: Huge credit goes to the manager we met, Pavos, who was wonderfully attentive, approachable, and always made sure we were looked after & all his wonderful staff in the restaurants. Down at the bar, Fay and Kostas and the bar team kept us thoroughly entertained every evening with their great humor and vibrant energy. Do yourself a favor and try their recommended "Pink" and "Berries" signature cocktail! Especially at happy hour for €4 instead of €7 between 8-9 PM. Also, a special mention and sincere apologies to Olga: while she was clearing our table, I didn't see her coming and accidentally karate-chopped her, thinking everything was about to spill. ​Food & Dining: Over our two weeks, the menu rotated weekly so meals stayed varied, and there was always food available somewhere on-site whenever we needed a bite. ​All-Inclusive Drinks: While the selection isn't infinite, it was far broader than reviews led us to believe. You get plenty of choices, including beer, wine (red, rose & white) soft drinks, local brandy, ouzo, a refreshing forest fruits mocktail, and several budget cocktails. ​Atmosphere & Entertainment: The evening entertainment was light, occasional, and varied, which fit the relaxed vibe perfectly. Keep in mind that there is no formal kids' club or loud poolside entertainment team like at larger mega-resorts. ​Guest Community: The resort guests were predominantly German during our stay, but everyone was friendly, and Google Translate made chatting and making connections effortless. ​Gym Facilities: Our main disappointment was the gym equipment. I had hoped to fight off gaining an extra few holiday pounds, but sadly, the equipment available was not fit for use. ​If you don't mind a brief uphill workout upon arrival, Hersonissos Village Hotel rewards you with fantastic Cretan hospitality, memorable staff, and some of the best sunset views on the island. We would gladly return!

We absolutely loved every moment of our stay at Hersonissos Village hotel. We stayed for 12 days all inclusive . I would recommend hiring a car as it is situated at the top of a hill. The rooms are lovely, yes they are basic but are clean and tidy. The staff are all so lovely and helpful especially Constantine and Fay at the bar. It was just such a nice atmosphere. We are hopefully going back in September and think it is really good value for money. There is even a little convenience store there.

This hotel is not a 4* today. The room decor and furniture are more like a 2* - this tired and worn retro style needs to be replaced. The hotel tolerates smoking in the bars and on the balconies, which are not separated from each other. In a sea view room taken for an additional fee, which offers a very beautiful view of the bay and the resort of Hersonissos, it was not possible to sit due to smoking neighbors. In this case, the bungalows could be divided into blocks - smokers and non-smokers - the hotel territory is large enough. Food 3* - limited selection, but still tasty. We had an all-inclusive package - from alcoholic drinks, beer and wine are tasty and available all day, but in AI selection existing 5 cocktails are available just from 6 pm and they are not drinkable. The normal drink selection is for an additional fee. The bartender prefers to serve those who pay 🙂

We visited Hersonissos Village Hotel mid September 25 and were really worried about going due to the reviews we had read before we went. We are a group of four women who all holiday together once a year and are happy to just be away for a week in the sun. I wanted to write this review as an honest account of our stay. The hotel is clean and is in a very beautiful location. As stated in other reviews, it is dated but that's pretty standard for Greece. Our rooms were cleaned daily with linen and towels being changed regularly. Air conditioning worked but was noisy. We had a fridge in our room which was old and tired looking and whilst this worked, it was also very noisy. The food is average and there was a good selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner with snacks throughout the day. The drink was awful, if you drink spirits, buy them at the airport or at a supermarket. Whilst my friends drank the wine and beer (reluctantly), the spirits were undrinkable. We arrived late on the Friday evening and after checking in, we had food that was put up for us so ate in the dining area at 11pm. Was only cold meats and cheese but they had made the effort to make sure we had eaten. Staff here are very hit and miss. Most not overly friendly with one female bar member being very rude but a few were happy and smiley. Maybe because it was the end of the season and they were just tired and done with tourists. Evening entertainment not great with the biggest problem being the small bar area. We only stayed around the bar one evening as it was difficult to get seated and if you did, you were packed in amongst the smokers which was unpleasant if you don't smoke. There was an area downstairs away from the bar but this wasn't really great if you wanted to have the feel of being out. As other reviews have stated, this hotel is up quite a steep hill and whilst it wasn't a problem for us, it could be for others. The local beaches were ok but most were quite small as they were more like little coves. You'd struggle to get a space if you went later in the day. The pool did look clean enough and we did go in it and haven't come back with any rashes. We went down to the town area a few times both during the day and in the evening and, whilst there are a lot of bars, we felt that there was no real atmosphere. No live music or entertainment anywhere, there was music on but it was a bit lifeless. We're ladies in our 50's and upwards so are not 18 year old party animals but the lack of music and atmosphere was a real disappointment. Overall we had a nice time and like others have stated, the view makes this place. We did the little train to see our surroundings and whilst there were a lot of other hotels, they were a bit out the way and all looked the same. Hersonissos Village is a quaint and basic budget hotel with lovely views but lacked friendly staff and entertainment. To sum up, I would say, you get what you pay for. This is misadvertised as a 4 star resort though, I would say more a 3 star budget. We have visited Portugal a few times over the years and would return but this is not a place we would return to but that's because of the bars and beaches too.
