We arrived at Hotel Meliton in Theologos in the early morning hours. The check-in process was somewhat inconvenient, as we had to complete a long and complicated electronic form on a smartphone, including our passport number and information about food preferences and allergies. The room itself was clean, and we had no major complaints about cleanliness. However, there were some issues with the bathroom. The shower cabin was broken, and there were ants in the bathroom. We initially thought there was no hairdryer because there wasn't one in the bathroom, but we later found one in the room, next to the mirror. There was also a second telephone in the bathroom, although we were not sure what it was for. We received two small bottles of shampoo and one small bar of soap, which did not last for the entire stay, so we had to buy another one ourselves. The food was rather disappointing. It was quite repetitive and, in our opinion, not particularly tasty. Breakfast was filling, while for lunch the best options were the fries and tzatziki. One evening, spaghetti was served without sauce. We would like to add, however, that the chef clearly tried his best with what was available, and we appreciate the effort. One day, because we had to leave early, we ordered an early breakfast. Unfortunately, we received only two slices of toast, some butter or margarine and a little jam. The biggest advantage of the hotel was definitely the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We would especially like to mention Honey, a lovely Filipino member of staff who was exceptionally kind and always cheerful. She even treated us to biscuits with our coffee, which was a very nice touch. There are two swimming pools on the hotel grounds. Our room overlooked the smaller, more intimate pool, which was about 1 metre deep. Free sun loungers and parasols were available by the pool. The hotel is located in a rather remote and quiet area. For us, this was an advantage, as there was very little traffic and it was peaceful. At the same time, this location is worth considering if you prefer to have restaurants, shops and attractions within walking distance. We rented a car independently and had a Fiat Panda, as most of the other cars were already unavailable. Having a car was very useful because it allowed us to explore Rhodes freely and use the hotel as a base for discovering the island. Drinks were served by the hotel staff. If we wanted to refill our own water bottles with cold water, we simply had to ask a member of staff, and there was never any problem with that. We also ordered drinks without ice cubes as a precaution during our stay. Overall, we would recommend Hotel Meliton mainly to people who plan to rent a car and explore Rhodes independently. The peaceful location, swimming pools and, above all, the exceptionally friendly staff are the hotel's greatest strengths. If you are looking for sophisticated or varied cuisine, however, you may want to consider other accommodation. Despite the shortcomings we experienced, if I were to visit Rhodes for a third time, I would seriously consider staying at Hotel Meliton again. The wonderful staff and the peaceful atmosphere would be the main reasons for coming back.

    Excepțional

Second time here and we love it. They really looked after with regards to being gluten and dairy intolerance. They keep the place very clean and the Greek night was hilarious. Always was able to eat at each meal. Staff are all excellent

My stay at this all‑inclusive hotel came with numerous issues that made the experience fall far below expectations, especially considering the booking was made nearly a year in advance. Reception & Service: The reception team was one of the weakest aspects of the entire stay. On arrival, the receptionist was not cheerful or welcoming, and communication throughout the stay was minimal. Staff smiled, but rarely engaged in conversation, which made interactions feel distant and unapproachable. When dealing with complaints, receptionists often appeared overwhelmed and nervous, speaking quickly and rushing through explanations without clarity or confidence. This is not how front‑of‑house staff should operate in hospitality. I was only informed while being walked to my room that I would stay there for one night and then be moved the next day with no explanation. I was told I’d receive free air conditioning for one night (normally €7 per night), which felt more like an excuse than a solution, especially since I wasn’t aware the hotel charged for air conditioning at all. The next day, I went to reception at the time advised, only to be told to come back later. Bar Staff: One staff member, I believe her name is Honey, was the friendliest and most smiley, though she still didn’t engage much beyond basic interaction. Another girl who worked mornings seemed noticeably more communicative with male guests than female guests, which created an uncomfortable and uneven atmosphere for women trying to ask questions or seek assistance. The rest of the team barely spoke at all. Room Conditions: The first room was meant for a family of four, with a bunk bed, and the TV didn’t work properly. The second room had three beds, even though I travelled with my partner and mother and booked two separate rooms. My mother received a proper double bed in another building, while I was given two single beds pushed together that separated easily, not suitable for a couple. I asked for a room near my mother and was told there was no availability. This was disappointing, especially since the booking for three people and two rooms was made nearly a year in advance. The rooms were outdated, but that wasn’t the issue. The shower was extremely small, anyone slightly larger would struggle to fit. The TV in the second room also glitched and had poor signal. Cleanliness & Housekeeping: Rooms were cleaned daily, but sheets were not changed every day. My mother spilled coffee on her sheet, and it remained unchanged for the rest of the stay. Some sheets and pillow covers had dry blood stains, which is unacceptable. Towels were inconsistent: some looked like proper towels, others looked like cloth cut in half. One day, I was given only two small hair‑drying towels. When I complained, the receptionist said they “probably didn’t have towels,” which is not a professional response. She also claimed housekeeping had finished for the day even though the housekeeper was standing nearby and overheard the conversation. The housekeeper took the small towels and the stained pillowcase straight from my hands without speaking, to the point where I had to tell the receptionist that I still needed the two small towels. The receptionist ran after her to inform her. I was then given one big towel and the two small towels, and told the second big towel would be dry in 30 minutes. After spending the whole day at the pool, I had to wait half an hour just to shower. In my mother’s room, housekeeping left no toilet roll, and since her building was separate and it was late at night, she had to use tissues she happened to have. This should never happen in any hotel. Animals on the Property: The hotel has two cats around the property, and both appear extremely skinny, giving the impression they are not being fed adequately. Regardless of their condition, the hotel should clearly inform all guests that animals are present on‑site. This is essential, as some guests may have allergies, may feel uncomfortable around animals, or may simply not want animals approaching them during meals. The cats regularly walk around the outdoor dining areas during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, often approaching guests and asking for food. While some people may not mind this, others absolutely do and proper guest‑safety communication should never be overlooked. Food Quality: I would rate the food 4/10. There was very little variety, and most dishes were repeated every day. For an all‑inclusive hotel, more diversity is expected. Location & Transport: The hotel is far from Rhodes Town, and there are no shops nearby. I was told the beach was a 10‑minute walk, but it actually takes 15–20 minutes due to hot weather. Upon check‑in, I was told a bus to Theologos Beach would pick us up at 10:00 and return at 13:00 - not ideal timing for most guests. Air Conditioning Policy: Air conditioning should be included for all guests, especially in temperatures above 30°C. On the first night, my mother could not sleep unless she kept her room door open, which is unsafe. Because of this, we ended up paying for air conditioning for the entire stay. Entertainment & Activities: The hotel offers very limited evening activities. After dinner, there is nowhere to go unless you have a car. Otherwise, the only option is to stay inside and play card games. For an all‑inclusive hotel, this is extremely limited. When checking out, the receptionist didn’t acknowledge us at all — no greeting, no eye contact, no “thank you.” It felt dismissive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the main men’s bathroom at reception was in unacceptable condition. One toilet was completely out of service, and the other had no door, meaning my partner had to use a bathroom with no privacy. This is not only uncomfortable, it’s a serious hygiene and safety concern. Overall Impression: As someone who has worked in hospitality, I know how hotels should operate. This hotel may be suitable for guests who plan to stay inside most of the time and don’t mind repetitive food or limited surroundings. However, the service, cleanliness, communication, and overall experience fell far below basic hospitality standards. I expected far more from a 3‑star hotel. I’ve stayed in other 2‑ and 3‑star hotels in Rhodes and have never encountered issues like these. Air conditioning has always been included, regardless of room type. The atmosphere here feels more like a nursing home than a holiday destination, quiet, outdated, low‑energy, and offering very few activities or evening entertainment. I have visited Rhodes several times, and because my previous hotel experiences were positive, I decided to return and bring my mother so she could enjoy the same level of comfort and hospitality I once had. Instead, I feel disappointed and sad that she did not get to experience what I had experienced before. Never staying at this hotel again.
