THB Royal

This was my 2nd solo stay at the Royal. Yet another wonderful week. I was there for a much needed rest, so took half board to keep things easy. The hotel was fully booked all week but my lovely quiet room was peaceful and comfortable. I love the casual playa layout within glorious gardens of mature trees. It's like living in an oasis village for a week. 2 pools with terraces. 1 lively with a pool bar, 1 quiet and chilled. No issues getting a sunbed. Fellow guests were sociable and friendly. The guys on the pool bar were hilarious. So friendly and couldn't do enough. All staff are hard working but never passed by without a smile and friendly HOLA! I enjoyed the food. Lots of choices and some innovative dishes I'd never tried before. I do enjoy trying new foods so that was a treat! I reckon I ate my body weight every day. I have noticed in the last few years that English is less routinely spoken in lanzarote hotels, apart from reception. This doesn't have to be an issue. It's very easy to communicate with respect and humor. Every interaction with the team was warm and cheerful. It's a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the nearest beach which has gorgeous turquoise water and well served with bars and restaurants. If you prefer something quieter - flamingo beach is a nice walk along the promenade. A lovely hotel that works hard to give guests of all nationalities a lovely Lanzarote experience.

I am very concerned about my holiday booked at this hotel for 22nd September. I am elderly and have serious mobility problems. I have now emailed the hotel reception 5 times to explain the situation and ask for a ground floor no step access room with a walkin shower cubicle rather than a bath. This is over a period of six months. I have asked them to acknowledge receipt as I know the emails have been delivered but no response received. If they cannot be bothered to reply to an email it worries me what the standard of the hotel is generally. I have also contacted the head office and still not received any response. I understand the hotel chain is privately owned by a spanish family and am wondering if British clients are not particularly welcome or deserving of attention. I usually holiday in Costa Teguise and have always found the service and contact there impeccable. This is my first time in Playa Blanca and I am now very apprehensive about the hotel I have booked and the holiday in general.

We have just returned from a one week stay at Thb Royal ! We thought it was a lovely , peaceful and well looked after hotel. Rooms : we had a junior suite with a pool view. The rooms are very basic, but for the amount of time we stayed in there it met all our needs. Large hanging space , great shower , nice balcony with table and chairs. It was cleaned every day except Sunday and fresh towels whenever we wanted them . Pools : two lovely pools , always with plenty of beds and kept spotlessly clean by staff who work hard constantly. The water was chilly but that was great as it was so hot there ! Food : we stayed half board. We found all the food to be lovely , so much so that we hardly ate out , even though we had gone with the intention of doing so . Half board also included wine or beer too. There was so much variety and also freshly cooked food that you could order too . The salads were all lovely , there were always lots of choices to suit all tastes. A special mention to Dennis who was great fun and very welcoming. The area : it is about ten minutes walk to the beach , a bit further to the marina and about 15 minutes to the shops and bars of playa Blanca . It is an easy walk along the street. The beach is lovely and the marina has a market on twice a week . Aldi is opposite the hotel if you need essentials. I cannot comment on the bar or the entertainment as we didn’t make use of them. We thought the setting of the hotel was very lovely , cleaned constantly and found everyone to be friendly especially if you attempted to speak to them in Spanish. There were so many different nationalities there too which was great to see. A very pleasant and peaceful stay & very sad to have only been there for one week .

Honestly, I was really disappointed with our stay at THB Royal. In my opinion, this hotel is definitely not a 4-star hotel and was a serious let-down compared to what we were expecting. 3 star at most. The biggest issue for us was the overall service. We found a lot of the staff to be quite rude and unhelpful, and communication was extremely difficult as we struggled to find anyone who could speak even basic English. We understand that we were in lanzarote and obviously don’t expect everyone to speak fluent English, but for a hotel that caters to so many international tourists, it made things very difficult when trying to ask for help or sort out problems. Housekeeping was also very inconsistent. It honestly felt like they picked and chose which rooms they were going to clean. At one point, we were left without towels for two days. We went to reception and specifically asked for towels, yet they still didn’t arrive. Something as basic as providing clean towels really shouldn’t be an issue in a supposed 4-star hotel. The food options were shocking and very disappointing. There wasn’t much variety, and the options available didn’t live up to the standard we expected at all. The cocktails were also really poor and definitely not enjoyable. The pool area was another disappointment. The pool didn’t seem particularly clean, which put us off properly enjoying it. On top of that, they played the exact same 5 or 6 songs over and over again every day around the pool. Guests weren’t allowed to play their own music either, so after a while it became incredibly repetitive and annoying. There was also absolutely no entertainment whatsoever during our stay, despite entertainment being advertised as one of the hotel’s features. This was especially disappointing as we were expecting there to be something happening in the evenings or around the hotel. Getting luggage to the room was also inconvenient. There were no lifts available for bringing luggage up, and there was no concierge service to help. This might not seem like a huge issue to some people, but when you’re arriving or leaving with heavy suitcases, it’s something you would expect to be considered at a hotel advertised as 4-star. The supermarket on site was also ridiculously expensive, so be prepared to pay much more than you would elsewhere. The only real positives I can give are that the beds were comfortable and the rooms themselves were clean. We did sleep well, and the room was probably the best part of our stay. Overall, we were seriously disappointed with THB Royal. There were far too many basic issues for a hotel advertised as 4-star, and we definitely wouldn’t rate it as one ourselves. Between the poor service, lack of towels, disappointing food and drinks, dirty pool, no entertainment and overpriced shop, it really wasn’t the holiday experience we were hoping for. A serious let-down.

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of September and had a really lovely stay. I travelled here with my two children by myself, and everything felt so easy and manageable. Before arriving, I emailed the hotel to ask for a room close to the main areas, and they were able to accommodate this perfectly. Our room was honestly as close to the pool as we could have hoped for, which was fantastic and made things so convenient with the children. The room itself was great and really suited us as a family. The bedroom had two double beds, a large wardrobe with the TV in it, and a safe, although we didn’t use this. The lounge area had tea and coffee making facilities, although it would have been nice to have some milk provided. We also had a complimentary bottle of water, which was a nice touch. The shower was great and had good pressure, although the design meant that the floor and bath mat got quite wet every time we showered, so there’s probably a little room for improvement there! The sofa bed was really comfortable too. It pulled out from underneath the sofa, which was great as there was no need to fold away a bed every morning, and it pushed back underneath easily. There was also a TV in the lounge with a handful of English channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, which was perfect for a few minutes of winding down in the evening. The food was great, with plenty of choice at every mealtime, and we were pleasantly surprised that drinks were included even though we were staying on a half-board basis. There was a good variety of food and we always found something we enjoyed. My kids aren’t majorly fussed about food, but they filled their boots every evening, which made our holiday so much easier! All of the staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable. The only downside for us was the lack of entertainment. We’ve stayed in other hotels where there are daytime activities and evening shows, whereas here there was only a singer at the weekend (this may have been because we visited during a quieter time of year). It wasn’t a major issue for us as we simply went out in the evenings or headed to bed a little earlier, but some more entertainment would have been a nice addition. The location is great too. It’s an easy walk to the marina and beach, Aldi is only a few minutes away, and the coach station is around a 15-minute walk. Overall, we had a lovely family holiday here and would definitely recommend the hotel. We’d happily stay again.
