This was our third visit here. All the staff is amazing. It is what keeps bringing us back. Maria and Guadeloupe in tikolita made our lunchtime the best part of the day! Our final meal with Eulalio in Tulum also was the perfect ending to the trip. I hope management realizes that the staff is the greatest asset of this hotel. The beach is being kept very clean from the seaweed. Thank you to all the staff that worked so hard each day doing this. The items that need some work still: The bottoms of the pools need some extra cleaning. The security needs to enforce the no smoking policy on the beach. Having a young child with us we did not appreciate having to deal with people smoking cannabis on the beach (multiple occasions). As usual the food and service at all the restaurants was great. The cleaning staff was amazing. The room service staff also amazing.
We came to Bahía Príncipe Akumal from the 27 July to the 14 August 2026. (Sorry for delay in posting this review) We came back here for our 30th Wedding Anniversary, we have had the best time. The location was on the beach,, pool bar, swimming pools just top notch. TUI had requested close to amenities as I have mobility issues and our room could have been place better. We had a room on the ground floor that had been recently renovated and was beautiful. We ate at nearly all the restaurants on site and love all of them apart from the smoke as the beef had arteries in it yuk. The everyday restaurants at Akumal and Tulum were great. The food was a bit touch and go at the beginning but a few days in it was good. The staff were amazing and so helpful, Nathaneal on from reception, Guest Service Victoria, Laura and Italia and Guadeloupe I could just keep going . We did our best to speak Spanish and everyone taught us a little bit more each day. What a beautiful place we really didn’t want to come home after 17 nights. Thank you everyone 😁
Been here on 3 previous occasions, this is why we booked again for this year, I have been to Mexico on 14 occasions at different hotels and I can honestly say this is now the worst holiday experience I have experienced in Mexico. The 14 Restaurants advertised only 3 open a time, international drinks advertised but not available. Bars closed they even ran out of Fanta for the kids, no pool towels the buffet food was shocking empty trays not being replenished juice bar never open, no Fries for the kids, cheap food to fill the spaces 6 trays of scrambled eggs for breakfast but no bacon, butter replaced with margarine, no tomato sauce, 20 minute wait for yogurt, our family lasted 4 days here and we then paid £3700 to move hotels, we went to the Gand Serenis a lovely hotel what the Akumal used to be like. If you are booked in to the Baha Príncipe resort, I would recommend you read reviews and look elsewhere you will be disappointed.
The best holiday ever!!! Food, drinks, entertainment, staff, rooms all 100%🥂💖🎉
We recently spent a week at Bahia Explore Akumal with our family of two adults and our 17-year-old, from August 11–18, 2026, and had a wonderful vacation. Overall, we were extremely impressed with the resort, the staff, the food, the accommodations and the wide range of activities. We would absolutely return. Excellent service from start to finish Our positive experience began before we even arrived. The resort was very responsive to our emails and requests, with replies generally received within a few hours or at least within a day. The staff also assisted with completing reservations for the à la carte restaurants, which was greatly appreciated. The online check-in through the web app was straightforward and made the arrival process very easy. At check-in, the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. They reviewed our room requests and assigned us a room that met all of our preferences, even though it was outside our original booking category. We were very impressed by their willingness to accommodate us. Throughout our stay, the staff were consistently friendly and welcoming. We were regularly greeted with a smile and a welcoming “hola” or “buenos días,” which really contributed to the overall atmosphere. Beautiful grounds and excellent room The resort grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush vegetation throughout the property. Our room was exceptionally well-appointed and very clean. Housekeeping provided daily service, and the in-room refrigerator was regularly replenished. The resort also has three large pools with plenty of space for guests. The two main pools offers a swim up bar and lively atmosphere with activities throughout the day, while the quieter pool provides a great alternative for those looking for a more relaxing environment. Something for everyone There was always something happening during the day. Activities included water polo, pool volleyball, beach volleyball, pool games, beach activities, bingo, Zumba, yoga, dance lessons, Spanish lessons and more. Whether you wanted to participate in activities or simply relax, there were plenty of choices. The coffee shop offered a selection of coffee beverages and teas, complemented by an assortment of pastries. All bar areas, including the sports bar theater bar, poolside bars, restaurant bars and beach bars, served a variety of drinks, including Bahia specials. Evening entertainment was generally good, with shows or live music every night. Guests also have the option of visiting other resorts within the complex to enjoy their entertainment if they prefer. The Beach The beach area was another enjoyable part of the resort. There were plenty of beach chairs available, with umbrellas providing shade, so finding a comfortable spot was never an issue. There was some seaweed on the beach, but this is something to keep in perspective given the time of year. The resort has a protected section of the beach, which helped reduce the amount of seaweed reaching the main beach area. The staff also worked diligently to clear the beach every morning and continued cleaning throughout the day. While there is only so much a resort can do about seasonal seaweed, we felt the resort did a very good job managing it and keeping the beach as clean and enjoyable as possible. It certainly did not detract from our overall experience. Excellent food and outstanding à la carte dining The buffet was consistently one of the highlights of our stay. Breakfast, lunch and dinner offered a high-quality and varied selection, including a Mexican station, grilling areas, hot trays, cold area, etc. There was plenty of choice for different tastes, and the quality was consistently good throughout our stay. The à la carte restaurants were exceptional. We enjoyed Tequila at Tulum, Thali at Tulum, Ku’uk at Akumal, Frutos del Mar at Akumal, Gran Tortuga at Tulum, Mikado at Coba, and The Smoke at Tequila. Each offered a unique dining experience and the signature drinks at the restaurants were a particularly nice touch. Renovations were not an issue for us Before travelling, we had read some reviews regarding the ongoing renovations. Based on our experience, we would not consider the renovations a concern. The work is nearing completion and was not immediately visible unless we specifically went looking for the areas undergoing renovation. The lower occupancy during this period appears to be related to some buildings not yet being operational. From our perspective, the reduced occupancy actually made the resort feel even more relaxed. The renovated areas, refreshed decor, updated colours and renovated rooms are all positive improvements and should make an already enjoyable resort even better once the work is fully completed. Easy check-out Check-out was just as convenient as check-in. We used the app’s checkout feature and received an email confirmation that could be presented to security when departing. The entire process was seamless. Overall: a wonderful vacation We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bahia Explore Akumal. The combination of friendly staff, beautiful grounds, excellent food, comfortable accommodations, great pools, numerous activities and exceptional à la carte restaurants made for a memorable family vacation. Of course, individual experiences can vary and occasional issues can happen at any resort. However, based on our own experience, we found many of the negative comments we had read beforehand to be inconsistent with what we actually encountered. We had a fantastic stay, would happily recommend Bahia Explore Akumal and would definitely return.
