Riu Cancun

My first time at a Riu hotel. The only issue was cleanliness. My room was not very clean. Pillows were nasty, and other surfaces. I bring my own cleaning supplies and shocked to see how filthy the door handles to the closet doors were. Dirt imbeded in the grooves of the handle. The tv remote disgusting. Day 4 I asked for my sheets to be changed. The cleaner did not put on pillow cases and the pillows were absolutely disgusting. Stains all over one pillow top to bottom side to side. The other pillow had some stains too. I made 3 separate phone calls to front desk and it took over an hour to change the pillows. The cleaning staff were the only people in the entire hotel that were unfriendly. All other service areas the staff very friendly. One day I saw the cleaning woman on my floor asked for a roll of toilet paper which she gave me. Asked for an extra wash cloth she told me "NO"! said I have to call the front desk. Made absolutely no sense when she had a cart full of towels and wash clothes. It was her attitude that annoyed me most. The beach was not the cleanest either. The amount of seaweed that built up over the week did not make for a pleasant beach experience. The hotel next door, which seemed for locals, cleaned their beach front daily. I went there when I wanted to access the water. Riu side I wish they had a rake, I would have cleaned it myself. I only saw 2 of the 7 days that they cleared some of the seaweed away. I know you can't control the seaweed floating to shore, but you can remove it daily. My last day the amount of seaweed build up, was so much I did not go to the beach at all. Meanwhile the hotel next door had a whole crew of people clearing their beach front. Very disappointed with Riu for that. Positives, food was good. Lots of variety and choices.

Has a great time with friends and family.......great Hotel, great location...and fantastic weather. Food, bar service and room were all very well throughout our entire stay, no complaints about those whatsoever. If any complaint...and there is one......We organized a Golf trip through the "Hotel" customer service desk, was given a good discounted price and told about everything that was included...including club hire, which was "included". When we arrived at the Riviera Golf Club we were then told that the club hire was not included in the price and had to pay an extra $68 each to cover equipment hire, so it turned out to be NO discount at all...not impressed. When we returned to the Hotel we complained at the service desk, the person that "sold" us the trip denied all knowledge.....which we thought was pretty poor....very poor actually. P.S.....if you book something through the hotel staff, make sure they write everything down....or go somewhere else. Apart from the Golf issue, had no other problems

Riu Cancun was just what the doctor ordered. Hotel was very clean and the location was perfect. Only discrepancies I had, they tried to charge me a “cleaning fee” because the cleaning crew said I had vomit on my bed, but it was straightened out, they put the wrong room number down.

This is a lovely hotel, in a good location, kept very clean, right on the beach, has lovely swimming pools, although staff try to keep the surrounding areas of the pool dry, it is so slippery, so a good pair of non slip whatever on your feet is essential, if you are of a certain age 😁, lovely helpful staff, lovely buffet restaurant with so much choice, not much to fault here at all, the only downside for us was the excursion we took, it was an all day trip to Holbox, very long and very expensive, the buffet cold lunch at the 5 star resort I would not have fed my dog, the only inclusive drink was water and a concoction of some dark berry, so had to pay for a can of coke at a disgusting price.

Service was good, sleep was bad because of really loud ppl next door to us. Need to have quiet hours at night.
