Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

My husband and I chose Secrets Akumal for our honeymoon. The resort itself is absolutely stunning—filled with lush green vegetation, serene koi ponds, and vibrant blooming flowers. What truly made our stay memorable was the incredible staff. We felt so welcomed, especially by our concierge (Luis), our fantastic poolside attendants (Jose, Jose, Salvador, and Isaac), and our bartender (Moises). Additionally, the woodfire pizza by the pool was delicious, and we had an amazing dinner at the Italian restaurant thanks to our wonderful server, Alberto. Unfortunately, we encountered a major issue on our first day. After traveling all day, we arrived exhausted, hungry, and incredibly excited to relax in the ocean-view room we had splurged on for our honeymoon. You can imagine our disappointment when we walked onto the balcony of building 9C and saw no ocean at all (see attached photos). We immediately notified our first concierge, Metz, that this was not the premium view we paid for. While Metz was incredibly empathetic and understanding, the late hour meant they couldn't move us immediately. As a result, we spent the first night of our honeymoon living out of our suitcases. The following afternoon, we met with Metz’s manager. While friendly, the manager frustratingly refused to acknowledge that the room lacked an ocean view. It felt exhausting and invalidating to have to repeatedly explain that the room did not match what was advertised or what we had paid extra for. To resolve the issue, the manager showed us two alternative rooms. The first was identical to our original view, but the second offered a partial view of the ocean and was closer to the beach. Tired of going back and forth and desperate to finally unpack and enjoy our trip, we accepted the second room. Aside from this stressful start, the rest of our stay was fun and relaxing. Secrets Akumal is a beautiful property, but moving forward, we will be much more cautious about how they classify and market their room views.

This was my wife and my third time at the resort and it somehow still exceeded our expectations. Even though the seaweed was bad the week that we were there, we still had an incredibly enjoyable experience with the outstanding staff, in particular the entertainment staff with Alan and Sania and the wait staff with Felipe and Antonio. The whole staff was phenomenal and it is incredibly impressive how they memorize everybody's names after only a few interactions, it makes you truly feel like family. We also love having the different pools for the different types of experiences we want, if we want a more upbeat day the activity has no shortage of fun to partake in but some days we just want to relax in which case we head to the quiet pool and just chill. This resort truly has something for everyone, and don't even get me started on the food the "worst" meal we had was still a solid 7/10 and every nearly every dish was incredibly enjoyable.

What a great vacation. Could not fault the hotel in any way. Staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Marlon and Annie in block 8 were exceptional and went above and beyond. The staff as the hotels biggest asset.

Wonderful experience. Far exceeded my expectations. Beautiful location, great food, and welcoming and kind staff. Yazmin at the Spa was best massage therapist I've had (and whole Spa team was so kind) and the Spa was so beautiful. The hydrospa experience was so calming. The entertainment staff (especially Andrea and Erik went above and beyond to make the week fun). All of the poolside and restaurant staff (Hector and Balthazar especially) took wonderful care of me. I would definitely rebook again!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Secrets Akumal and cannot say enough good things about the staff and service. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely focused on making our vacation special. Our room was beautiful and impeccably maintained by Heider, who cleaned it twice a day and did an amazing job every single time. A special thank you to our concierge, Metz, who was outstanding. She answered all of our questions immediately, helped arrange our excursions and taxis, and made everything so easy. We also want to thank Luis, who was incredibly helpful during our checkout process. The entertainment team truly made our trip memorable. Ari, Oscar, and Eric brought so much fun and energy to the resort and were a big part of what made our stay so enjoyable. We also enjoyed listening to Chris, the guitarist, on our first night. Our favorite dining experience was at Oceana. The seafood dinner was by far the best meal we had during our stay. Victor, our server, and Luis, the manager, were incredibly welcoming and even surprised us with a special goodbye dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch. We also thoroughly enjoyed the tequila tasting with Santos, who made the experience both fun and informative. The only piece of feedback we have is regarding the informational presentation about the vacation club/timeshare program. We agreed to attend because we were told it would last 90 minutes. Since we only had two full days at the resort, we planned our time carefully. Unfortunately, the presentation lasted nearly three hours, and we were disappointed to lose an entire morning of our vacation. Other than that, our stay was exceptional. The level of service at Secrets Akumal is truly outstanding, and the people are what make this resort so special. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing, and welcoming getaway.
