HM Alma de Bayahibe

The pools are great, but there are not many beach loungers and the sand is imported (it is on rock, not beach). The pools close at 7, which is early for my taste. It is "inclusive" but not "all" inclusive. Speciality restaurants are 2000 DOP per person, and the sushi one is (cough, cough) very expensive. Beer, house wine, and cheap alcohol ( almost tasteless) is included, but premium and liqueur is extra. The shows at night are mediocre at best and there is a chica wandering around saying you are late but she can "get you in free " if you give her a big tip. Nice scam if you can work it i guess. Anyway, nice place and i may come back some day.

For European guests not the best experience, there is a significant difference in treatment of Spanish guests and English speaking guests. I did not feel invited to ask for help or order drinks to the blunt and somewhat unfriendly attitude of the bar staff, the staff of the snack bar and pool bar. Lack of English skills of the staff this is really a problem. Also, there is only 1 restaurant included the Italian one, as the Japanese restaurant is paid and the other restaurant is not open everyday Also wine the do not serve, you are only able to have wine with dinner at the buffet restaurant. Quality of dinner in restaurant is poor, small portions and very very salty and lack of flavour. Buffet restaurant is fine. Pools are fine and clean, you can even dive into the ocean from the poolside. Due to the unfriendlyness of most of the staff it was not very inviting. Would not recommend it to European guests.

The rooms and the hotel itself was nice, the staff however doesn’t speak any English and doesn’t even try to understand you! They were very disorganized with cleaning, one day the room didn’t get cleaned at all even though they said they would do it after we complained and even other day they would clean at lunch hours. The entertainment was the best thing about the hotel! The area is not the best but all in all it’s good for the money

Check in was delayed until 4pm, blaming cleaners not finished & then I had been given a dirty double room instead of my ocean queen. Apparently the last room, so they offered to move me the next day to the room I paid for. I had to check out at 11am & store my bags though & had the repeated delay until 4.15pm when I surprised the cleaner who was still finishing. Reception staff were unapologetic & even made it seem like I was being unreasonable. A bad start to the holiday. Thankfully the restaurant staff were really professional & friendly & the food was great. It was disappointing to not be able to get wine at all from the bars at the all-inclusive, & only local spirits were free. Wine was offered at the restaurants with dinner only - something to note for wine drinkers who don't favour spirits The diving offered was fantastic, & the instructors were top knotch, which helped make up for mixed service elsewhere.

The only thing I didn´t like about this hotel was the shuttle bus to the beach. It was too small and there wasn´t enough space for everyone. Sometimes we couldn´t get on the bus. Apart from that, everything else was perfect.
