Protur Safari Park

We just returned from a week at the Safari Park Hotel. Is this a four star hotel? Probably not Location Around a 2 hr transfer from the airport and one of the last drop offs. Arrival at reception was good. staff were polite and told us that you can pre book one of the speciality restaurants but failed to tell us that two were buffet style and just an extension of the main buffet restaurant. Safe is chargeable at 2€ per day Pool Towels 10€ Deposit Reception staff appeared uninterested what I told them about our experience when checking out. Food Cardamon - Self Service Asian restaurant serving anything from sweet and sour chicken to chicken tikka masala. Located in La Reserva Waterpark just over the road from the main hotel All tables are in the open. Country Grill - Again self service located at the top end of the hotel complex - Mexican type food La Fontana - Italian - Table Service food was good and hot service was a little rushed as we were in the first sitting. Located just inside the gate at the top end of the complex. Goa - Indian Restaurant located over the road from main reception. This was our favourite and the best of the speciality restaurants. Again table service. The Main Buffet Restaurant - Free for all. Nice if you like warn food that has been mauled by a million kids. Parents need to control their children better not the hotels fault. Selection of food was limited and repetitive. Breakfast and lunch were the same. Self service drinks too. Rooms Quite basic - Bed was comfortable enough and the shower was good. AC did not work - we had to get maintenance to come and "unblock the pipes" which made it better and the temperatures in the room bearable. The room does have a kettle and cutlery but no tea and coffee. There is a "Chiller" - Not a fridge we were told at reception as ours was kicking out more heat than a radiator in winter and was actually warming the contents up instead of cooling them down. this also contributed to the unbearable temperatures in the room as it was shut inside one of the cupboards with no ventilation. After complaining at reception maintenance did come a fix both issues. The Pools... Well.... the pools are a free for all. you will need to be up before 7.30 if you want a sunbed. There are 3 or 4 pools with the main one being the worst. Lifeguards whose lives seem to depend on their mobile phones. No attention to what is happening in the pools. The entertainment crew are just as bad. twice during our stay they set up water polo. That was it. They set it up then cleared off for an hour allowing 50 odd people ranging from kids to grown adults fight over a ball which was then thrown as hard as possible at a goal located in front of kids and their parents sat round the edges. They also play this in the "Shallow end" so if you have any kids that can't swim or are not too confident they will either have to get out for an hour whilst the hooligans fight over a deflated football. They were literally bundling on the ball whilst two teenagers were slapping each other round the faces. The Hotel management need to make sure that they manage their staff and ensure that they are policing these activities, not just let them act like wild animals. Not good. It was in fact that bad around the pools that we paid twice to use the facilities in La Reserva - Much less chaotic and included another buffet restaurant. Entertainment. Pleased to say that I can now count to four in six languages and shout DJ MUSICA at the end of it. That was the extent of the kids disco followed by the same four or five songs. The main entertainment was mediocre. Noise Levels - Unbearable The Good Point is that the hotel is located very close to Sa Coma and the beach great to get out for a nice quiet drink in one of the bars or some hot (not tepid) food. I appreciate that the hotel cannot be blamed for the behaviour of the guests but they do need to take responsibility for policing what goes on. They didn't do that whatsoever during our stay. The Lifeguards and Animation Team need to do their jobs and take responsibility for the activities that they are supposed to be managing. Would I go back??? No not my cup of tea.

Retuned a few weeks back. Pros Rooms are clean, presentable, well equipped. Plenty of space. You won't get a pool side lounger, but there are plenty around. Always spares, you just need to use a zone away from the main pool. There are 3-4 other smaller quieter pools with loungers. Food - lots to choose from. It is an elbows out sleeves up experience, and not everyone has the right etiquette or appreciation for hygiene, but its a buffet - what do you expect... Italian restaurant was very nice. Slash pad pool up the top end was great for smaller kids. Cons Lifeguards are pointless. Constantly on their phones and have powerpacks to sustain the whole shift. A lot of families were not flying the flag for British tourists.... not the hotels fault. Evening entertainment was awful. One night a young man and women on stage looked as though they were wearing discarded stag-do outfits let behind by guests. They count to 5 in a few languages, ask a DJ to play something, sing the same 2 songs then leave. The glass lift was basically an oven. We were on the 5th floor. Got out after 2 floors as we couldn't take the heat. Agree with room a/c too hot. Would I go back - yes probably. Would I recommend to a friend - not so sure.

We stayed here this summer as a family of 3 with a 16month old. The hotel was great and had lots of free activities to offer such as the trampolines, the little splash park, bike hire oh and the 2 mini gold courses. The food was okay nothing to write home about. I did read a review saying the alcohol barely contains alcohol which I can disagree with yes they aren't branded drinks but there is plenty of options to choose from. Some staff weren't the friendliest and the pools were way too crowded, I honestly think the pools are too small for the size of the hotel. The children's mini disco was again way too packed, our little boy kept getting knocked over especially with how small the area is with the benches sectioning the "stage" off. It is a nice hotel with lovely modern rooms and lots of activities to offer but there are reasons why we score it average.

We stayed as a large party of 12 ranging from 2 years old to 68. Overall we were pleased with all aspects of the hotel. 1 bed apartments were spacious and plenty large enough for a family of 4. Ibiza restaurant was themed each evening, good selection of food. Quality was not fantastic but we always found something to eat. At lunchtime the salad choice was good. Pizza was sloppy and chips tasted undercooked. Burgers were a bit pale but tasted ok. Food was mostly cold. Country grill at lunchtime was ok, served burgers, kebab meat, chips, chicken nuggets and meatballs. Again not the best quality but was good enough. Breakfast was served until 9.30, then light breakfast pastries and bread for toasting started at 10 - 11.30. Swimming pools were busy!! We were there in Aug and expected this but it was very overwhelming at times and not enjoyable. You couldn’t swim, there was just no space. Far too busy for our 2 year old. Balls were being thrown from one side to the other and kids jumping on top of people. The kids entertainment was repetitive and the same songs every night. The main entertainment was poor for the standard of hotel. The best night was Take That. Air con was not good and the reviews are true. We complained and an engineer came and ‘fixed’ it in our room. We then also demanded a fan as our children could not sleep in the heat, we were told at reception it would cost €20 which we were going to pay. Then the girl behind the desk changed her mind and said we could have it for free - made us think the money was being pocketed. Air con in the main reception is poor and turned off later in the evening. When we questioned this we were told it is due to Spanish Law. Our kids attending kids club, the 8 year old enjoyed it, however our 12 year old found it far too babyish. We definitely felt the hotel overall was geared towards younger children. Our 12 year old did get a bit ‘bored.’ The Splash Park was lovely and all ages enjoyed it. Lots of sunbeds available. We spent 2 days at La Reserva which was nice and I would recommend. Felt much more relaxed and a chilled atmosphere and the food quality seemed better. We ate at the Italian À la Carte - food was good but no menus and you had to use a QR code to choose which felt impersonal. In summary, the hotel is very large but nice and close to Sa Coma beach and Cala Millor, which are beautiful resorts. I wouldn’t return, but we did have a nice time.

If you like it busy, chaotic and kids running feral then this is the hotel for you. Just returned from a two week stay at Protur Safari Park Sa Coma. As a family we had an amazing time and Sa Coma itself is beautiful, the beach is stunning and there are some great trips to explore. And yes we would return but unfortunately not to this hotel. It has its pros and cons. The hotel itself looks amazing and clearly has been done up. Staff are great and very friendly and helpful. Ants! Lots of them! Normal ants, flying ants. They are everywhere. Never seen so many. All around the pool, crazy golf and after the storm they were in our room. Disgusting. Rooms: have been done up and have a modern feel. Bathroom was great, very spacious and shower was quite powerful. Lots for shelving space. Beds are terrible. They are that uncomfortable not a one of us slept properly in the time we were there and slept better on a sun lounger. We had a great balcony on a mid floor level but only two chairs were provided which was disappointing. Cleaning 5 times per week. We’d have fresh linen and clean towels. Maids always did a great job. Food: breakfast was great but lunch and evening meal were a let down half the time. Very limited options and a lot of the same. Breakfast in the buffet hall in served from 7.30 till 10am daily. There is the country grill which does a late continental breakfast till 12. There is then the BBQ grill available from 1pm. Lunch I. The main buffet hall from 12.30 ish until 3pm. Evening meal from 6.30 till 9pm. The buffet hall, be warned as kids just run riot and aren’t supervised. Sticking fingers in food and coughing all over the place. Two of us have returned home ill. There are four restaurants which you have to book in advance. Mexican Indian Asian Italian. You are guaranteed at least one booking for each week you are there. This is done online through a QR code. If you require any more you will need to go to reception. I’d book on at the beginning of your holiday as you will not get in otherwise. We tried the Italian which was amazing and the Asian which was really good. A bit limited but otherwise nice. Pools: there is a big pool, two medium, a small, and a tiny paddle pool for the babies. Great but the baby pool and one of the medium sized were closed off regularly as someone had done a poo in it, disgusting. There is also the paradise park that’s next to the hotel, which always has sun loungers available. There are drinks but no food available. This is part of the hotel, no extra charge and is ideal for younger kids, babies and toddlers. There is also the La Reserva which is out the back of the hotel. We were disappointed to find out this was chargeable but at a reduced rate for guests at €15.50 per adult and €7.75 per child. Food and drinks are included and there is a swim up bar. A jacuzzi and only about 3 slides. Great water park but would recommend for children under 8. Sun loungers: if you want some close to the pools then you best be up before 5am peak season as there won’t be any left. Some families were reserving 8 plus beds at a time. If you just want a lounger then before 9am you’ll definitely get one. Facilities: were do I start. There are loads of activities available for all the family in the day time. Pool activities including work outs, the running mat. Crazy golf there and are two different courses, both free with tui just get your ticket from reception. Boat rides €3 . Tennis, football, shooting for over 16s, paddle, bike hire. All free. Kids clubs. Various activities through the day. At night the entertainment was limited. There is nothing for the teenagers to do and so we saw a lot just loitering about bored in the evening. The evening entertainment is that bad it’s funny. Smoking and vaping. There are designated areas around the hotel. Most smokers adhered to this. Only one grandma who was a law unto herself and did so around the kids pool. Vaping, guests just did what they wanted and staff did not enforce any restrictions. It was a joke. Some vaping guests were very ignorant. So what lets this hotel down. The guests are one, families just let their kids run feral. Especially at night. They were running down the corridors after midnight screaming and banging about. We were pool facing and right below us there were kids, different ones sine as younger as 3 not supervised causing mayhem. Parents just didn’t care. The hotel was very busy, its peak season of course so what would you expect but we felt at times like we were packed in like sardines. The beds are so close together your almost sat on a strangers knee. At meal times in the buffet hall you were almost falling over one another and knocking chairs we were that close. We have been all before in peak season and it’s extremely busy but this is hazardous. If you like it busy and chaotic then this is the hotel for you. Great hotel with great facilities but we won’t be returning.
