HONEST REVIEW Me and my fiancee stayed at this hotel for 10 nights from the 31st of July to the 10th of August, This might be a long one so I'm hoping people like a good read as I am going to breakdown our trip in sections. AIRPORT We arrived in Mallorca on an early flight from Birmingham expecting long queues for immigration as we kept seeing videos and people complaining about how long it took them to get through, but we had no trouble at all thankfully, it took maybe a maximum of 20 minutes to go through immigration, which was easy to work out and there were staff there to help out with any issues TRANSFERS FROM AIRPORT Thanks to joining this group and seeing other peoples comments we decided against in the end using the TUI coach transfers as we had seen many people saying it took anywhere between 2 and 4 hours to get to the hotel, so we took that and decided to arrange a private taxi with Sarah Bryant and it was a god send, we didn't have to wait too long to meet our driver, she had an issue getting through a barrier at the airport so it was a little bit of a walk to get to the car but it was a nice relaxing drive that took just 45mins so I'd highly recommend getting a transfer booked with Sarah. CHECKING IN check in was a breeze, took only a few minutes, only hiccup was the lady didn't give us our all inclusive bands, didn't stop us getting drinks and food from the snack bar 😆 we only realised when my fiancee noticed everyone wearing blue bands so I went to reception and she was apologetic and handed them straight over. ROOM Like transfers I noticed people asking Sarah about booking certain rooms like sea view or pool view or as some people are frequent visitors a particular numbered room, so I decided to ask Sarah if we could have a sea view room on a higher level, and low and behold we had a sea view room on level 3 room 319 to be exact, I can't fault the room at all, the view was lovely, the beds were comfy me and my fiancee like a firm mattress, we slept amazingly the whole stay, we also had a lovely walk in shower which was a massive relief after hot days, there was just enough storage space for our clothes, the air con was absolutely amazing, we had a small fridge, a kettle ( we never used) a tv also never used and plenty of plug sockets around the room. The only tiny issue we had was the position of the towel rack in the bathroom right in front of the sink, me and my fiancee aren't very tall so it was a little annoying trying to wash with it in the way 😆 😆. Also like to add the rooms were cleaned everyday and they always were spotless when we arrived back to the room in the afternoon. FOOD AND DRINK We had seen before our visit a few mixed reviews about the food, but we didn't need to worry at all, we had no issues, the food was always lovely and plenty on offer even for a picky eater like my fiancee there was always something for her to eat, the breakfast was mostly the same every day but lunch and dinner was different most days, I had two plates of food at most meal times as it was so nice, plenty of fruit and other options if you're vegetarian or vegan. The snack bar by the pool also had a decent amount of food with hot dogs, chips, burgers, chicken nuggets, wraps, sandwiches, salad and ice cream on offer, I would recommend being able to order a fruit platter though as it would be refreshing on hot days. Drinks wise I was more than happy with what was on offer to a non alcoholic drinker, I admit the soft drinks did taste a bit flat but I didn't mind as they were still refreshing the drink dispenser in the main food area seemed to be better though, my fiancee enjoyed her fair share of alcoholic drinks and didn't say anything bad about them so they must have been nice. STAFF The staff were amazing in every part of the hotel, always did there jobs with a smile on there face from the start of the day to the end, they all get high praise from me. The Entertainment team were friendly even though we didn't join in other than the odd question of the day. POOL I was worried after seeing many hotels having issues with people hogging loungers or rushing to get their towels down or not having enough space for everyone but we had no issues at this hotel, when I did get up early to bag a couple of loungers there was no rushing or arguments everyone walked out nicely and picked there places, I would say that if you want a spot around one of the 3 pools id definitely recommend getting there before 10am, as there was a couple of occasions we arrived later and we had go get loungers on the grass area, the pool area was always clean with lifeguard and staff going round picking up glasses, pool was checked daily id assume to see if the water was clean. Toilets near the pool were clean and only once had issue with not toilet paper. The pools themselves were lovely temperatures and it was nice having a big main pool and 2 smaller shallower pools, perfect for sitting and reading a book. HOTEL IN GENERAL there were plenty of areas to sit, even though the hotel felt full while we were there we never had issues getting seats around the pool, in the bar or when having food, the place was spotless and cleaned regularly, it was a lovely atmosphere and plenty of area around to get away. I would say the lifts are definitely a bit small, they say a maximum of 6 but I'd say its more like 4. Also the toilets in the reception area are again a bit on the small size, on a couple of occasions In the cubicles I very nearly headbutted the door while taking my shorts off 😆 😆. LOCATION if all you want to do is lounge by the pool and go to the beach which is literally a minutes walk over away then the hotel is perfect, but if you do want to get out and about and explore you do have to rely on taxis and the local bus, we only managed to get a taxi on 2 occasions as they always seemed busy when I tried ordering one, and I'm not sure If I was doing something wrong on the Mallorcacab app but every time I tried booking a taxi to the hotel it came up with invalid destination so we always had to rely on buses getting back, on that note the bus stop was around a 5 minute walk away and we never had to wait too long to catch one, only on market day did we have issue of not getting on one and having to wait for another one, the bus we used regularly was the 324 which got us to the port, the old town, playa de muro and Can Picafort, it was easy to pay with the card on and off the bus, I would say there is no queueing system in spain, as soon as the bus stops its a free for all and nobody cares about pushing in front of you or pushing you out the way and there isn't any courteous shown towards disabled people or parents with kids but that might have just been on the occasions we used the buses and not all the time. I'd also say getting the bus earlier in the morning and early evening is easier as these times seemed to be the only times we managed to get a seat or when we left places late in the evening. LASTLY All in all the Hotel is AMAZING and I'd 100% recommend it to everyone its definitely a 5 star ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ from us and I also have to give a big shout-out to Sarah the TUI rep for helping us out with the room and taxis to the airport. apologise for the essay of a review but hopefully people find it helpful and I'm always happy to answer any questions if anyone wants to ask any, I'm also including some photos of the room we had and around the hotel.
Some positive and negative thoughts. Hotel is very clean but a bit rundown and grotty in places. Room was fine and kept clean by housekeeping, so Thank you to our lady. Entertainment is embarrassing. 3 lads who would be more suitable to a kids club. They simply do not know how to interact with Adult guests. One of the entertainment lads had a complete meltdown in the pool after a guest splashed him with water. The Game of the Day consisted of asking How many Pages are in this book I’m holding!! Food is absolutely disgusting. It’s laid out on trays covered in grease. Iv never seen presentation like it. The omelette station dosnt seem to have food tongs etc because the server used his hands to pick up the ham, cheese etc . I struggled to eat anything Drinks are fine and there is a wide variety of them, including cocktails Distance from shops , bars etc is a problem unless you don’t want to move outside of hotel Beach is stunning Most of reviews are from returning guests who feel they Own the place. We checked all the reviews and there were very little negative feedback. We had a different experience but people were annoyed that we dared to speak negatively about this hotel that they were coming to 20 years. We will never return
Quiet and safe hotel. Lovely staff but a bit too quiet for us. Location is also far from anything. You can get a bus to the port and old town which is easy though. There is a supermarket across the road but not much else locally. Food was good but breakfast was repetitive. My son has coeliac and each day he went to recipe to order food. He could order as much as he wanted and also asked for items not on their list and they were very accommodating. His food was alway brought out separately and he was not ill once. I am also gluten free (not coeliac) so ate from the buffet. Lots of items had wheat in but there was always things to eat for dinner. Sadly, this was not the case for dessert. All in all, we had a nice holiday but it just didn’t have enough going on for us due to location. The evening entertainment wasn’t great and given that people stay at the hotel, having something a little better would probably make all the difference. Being close to the beach was great.
This was our fourth holiday at the Platja Dor over a period of some 15 years. I'm afraid however that it will be our last. The hotel has lost its former "sparkle" on several fronts . The entertainment was abysmal and in some cases almost embarrassing. The food was acceptable but far from exiting. More reminiscent of a work canteen than a top hotel. The staff, though polite and efficient offered nothing over and above basic service. The surly manager gave the impression that he had no interest in the guests . Not once did I see him make conversation not even acknowledge anyone as he prowled around keeping a stern eye on his underlings. On a positive note the rooms are well serviced and comfortable but some of the furnishings in the communal areas is looking rather tired . Sadly the Platja Dor no longer offers the thoroughly pleasing experience that it once did. Finally I consider that TUI are doing themselves no favours by delegating their customers to Ryanair.
This is my fair and honest review of this 3 star hotel. Went as a couple on their 1st anniversary. Aged 50 & 51. We were the only people checking in that came off our transfer. Check in was easy and welcoming, we were able to use the facilities as soon as we arrived and had our bands put on.
