Medina Solaria & Thalasso

We had a mixed experience at the hotel. On arrival, we were allocated the wrong room and, as the hotel was fully booked, we weren’t able to move to the correct room until 2pm the following day. We had paid extra for a premium twin sea-view room so this was disappointing as we couldn’t unpack on arrival. We did have a two hour flight delay. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff are generally lovely and helpful. Our transfers were excellent too. We didn’t pay for the private transfer upgrade this wasn’t necessary as our second hotel drop off and was in a minibus with only two other families and was very quick. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although take a fan if you struggle with heat, as the air conditioning is set to 26°C and doesn’t seem to get any cooler. I also recommend taking your own tea bags. The bar staff were kind enough to give me a pint of milk to keep in the fridge in my room, which was really helpful!. The pool area is much smaller than the photographs suggest and can get very crowded during the day. Lovely and quiet before 10am though. The pool music is also very loud and repetitive, so this definitely isn’t somewhere for a quiet, relaxing day by the pool reading a book. If you happen to have a particularly loud family nearby, it could become quite irritating! On the plus side, there was no problem getting sunbeds and there are plenty of umbrellas for shade. The lifeguards are always around and are lovely guys. There are only a few padded sunbed cushions, though, and these go very quickly. The pool bar was disappointing. There isn’t really a proper snack bar — it’s mainly leftovers from the restaurant — and the cocktails weren’t particularly good, with most drinks being made using a slushie machine that hadn’t had time to freeze. There was also only one member of staff serving, which made things quite slow. The entertainment team work incredibly hard throughout the day and deserve a lot of credit. I was surprised, though, that they do a meet-and-greet before meal times, wasn’t really necessary and I am sure they would have appreciated a bit of a break. I absolutely loved the Aqua Club dances! The evening entertainment was OK, although not a major highlight. The food was probably the weakest part for me. There is a big variety and plenty of it is freshly prepared, but much of it was overcooked, repetitive and lacking in flavour. The restaurant waiting staff, however, were lovely and the local wine was very good. Outside the hotel, the beach area is lovely and I would definitely recommend trying the jet skis. A quick visit to the Medina market is also worthwhile. There is a club, but a friend had his wallet stolen there, so be particularly careful with your belongings if you go. Overall, this is a clean hotel with friendly staff and plenty going on with a range of activities but I wouldn’t choose it if you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing pool holiday. The pool area is busy and noisy, and the food and drinks could definitely be improved. The Aqua Club dances, beach and excellent staff were definite positives, though.

The hotel is amazing cant fault anything. The entertainment staff where amazing couldn't fault the events every night.

If i could give this more than 5 stars I would do. Amazing hotel, every single member of staff went out of their way to help you no matter what you asked for. It is a stones throw from a beautiful beach which has a section just for guests at the hotel. Restaurant had more choice of food than you could manage to eat in a month never mind a week. As long as you can handle heat this is the perfect place to go. Rooms on the back of the hotel have a sea view that you will never get bored of too. I will recommend this hotel and Tunisia to anybody.
