Nungwi Beach Resort by Turaco – Zanzibar

We stayed almost two weeks a this beautiful resort and felt like home. There weren‘t any wishes left open. Problems were solved rapidly and always with a friendly smile and a „hakuna matata“ on the lips. We had ocean view rooms and fell asleep to the sounds of the waves.

The Turaco Nungwi Resort has a superb location right on Nungwi Beach, the sea is literally a few steps away and at high tide the water is stunning. However, due to the tides, the water level drops significantly at low tide and seaweed often covers the shore. The beach side isn’t cleaned, which affects the overall impression. Another downside is the constant presence of vendors on the beach. They offer everything from sandals to jet skis and massages, while security guards watch from the breakwater and try to keep order, the sellers stay right on the sand. Fortunately, the sun loungers are positioned above the breakwater, so you can relax somewhat in peace, but as soon as you step into the water, you’re approached repeatedly. It gets tiring and takes away from the relaxing vibe you come here for. The hotel itself feels a bit old-school and not quite 4-star, which is not reflected in the price. The wooden furniture in the room looked aged, though the bed was comfortable and the room was a decent size. I liked having a balcony, it was a nice touch for morning coffee or evening breeze. On the positive side, the pool area is beautiful and well maintained, the beach (when the tide is right) is gorgeous. Breakfast was varied and tasty, with plenty of options to choose from. The staff were very kind and helpful throughout, a highlight of the stay. However, late check out wasn’t possible, so we had to leave at 12:00 sharp. Getting here is also a commitment, it’s about 1 hour 45 minutes from the airport and Stone Town, so factor that into your plans. Overall, if you’re looking for a beachfront spot with a nice pool and friendly service, this works for a few days. But be prepared for vendor pressure, tidal limitations and rooms that could use a refresh.

This is one of the nicest places we have travelled to, the staff are ever so friendly and helpful especially Yusta, Auburn, Mloja & Devotha. I will be back & definitely recommend it to all my friends back home .

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Turaco Nungwi Resort. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine kindness, beautiful smiles and incredible hospitality. The whole team was amazing throughout our stay. Everyone was friendly, attentive, professional and always willing to help. They truly made us feel welcome and cared for. We would especially like to give a very special thank you to Evans. Evans was absolutely outstanding from beginning to end. He was always smiling, kind, attentive and incredibly helpful. He consistently went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us and always took the time to check that we were doing well. His warmth, professionalism, positive energy and genuine care really made a difference to our experience. Evans is the kind of person who makes a stay truly memorable, and we sincerely hope that his hard work and dedication are recognized and appreciated. He deserves to be celebrated and valued! A huge thank you to the entire Turaco team, and especially to Evans, for making our stay so special. We are leaving Zanzibar with beautiful memories and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Nungwi.
