Hotel Croatia

We have just returned from a week in Croatia Hotel Cavtat. The hotel is very large perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. Our greeting on arrival at reception was professional with the receptionist having a very good standard of English. Rooms were spotless and were cleaned every day. Staff were courteous, professional and very helpful. We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style . The standard, quantity and choice of food was excellent. There are two slimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor- both salt water. There were plenty of sun loungers and towels were provided every day. Overall, we would rate our stay as excellent and would be happy to recommend it to other travellers. There were however a number of issues which are detailed below - for the benefit of the hotel management. There are 3 lifts to upper floors in reception. One of these was malfunctioning from the day we arrived. When a guest panicked and pressed the alarm, the lift was taken out of service on day 3 of our stay and remained that way until we left. This put extra pressure on use of the 2 other lifts. On our last day, the cleaning staff removed one of the dressing gowns from our room and did not replace it. We then felt we had to convince reception that we had not taken it in our luggage. We resolved the issue ourselves by asking the cleaning staff to replace the missing dressing gown. There are 130 concrete steps from the hotel down to Cavtat Town - a buggy service is available for guests who are not comfortable using the steps. At night there are 8 pedestal lights to ensure safety using the steps. During our stay, 3 of these lights were not working which made using the steps a dangerous experience. This needs to be resolved as soon as possible to prevent accidents. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and we would recommend Croatia Hotel to other travellers.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The room was spacious, well maintained and decorated, and we enjoyed our balcony space. We’d book a room with a sea view next time, but the view from our balcony into the gardens was still beautiful. The staff were friendly & helpful, the buffet restaurant had plenty of fresh salads and seafood options, as well as local and international dishes, to choose from. It’s ideally placed for walking into town or strolling along the coastal paths.

Great Location although up a steep hill but transport to and from beach front is available free of charge. Very clean hotel with great breakfasts and spacious rooms. Staff very friendly although checking took a little time. Don't forget there is a city tax to be paid at the end of tour stay as it is usually asked for up front.

First I would like to address previous reviews before giving mine. This hotel is listed as four and a half it is close to a five but a few things need to be done to make it five. With regards to sun loungers at the pool. We didn’t use this facility as this is in my opinion is a culture visit not a sunbathing holiday, if this is what your looking for go to Spain ( 😳 ) the buggy driver’s were amazing always up and down and-ready to take you 24/7 everyone was given a phone number to contact it they were not around. Checking in was painless and quick however we did have an issue with the room and was moved straight away. A big thank you to Luka the manager who went above and beyond to make everything perfect. Breakfast was enough for our needs. Full English and more. The steak bar. (Robert) amazing knowledge and recommendations for food and wine. Last of all. Yes it’s a good base for all areas this is why people come back time and time again. And us and our family will be rebooking for next year.

Writing Just back from a four-night stay, and I have to say Cavtat itself is absolutely spectacular. The hotel works well as a base, although we didn’t spend a huge amount of time there. Check-in was straightforward; we arrived at 1:50pm and were asked to return at 2pm as the room wasn’t quite ready. Not a problem at all—it gave us a chance to explore the extensive grounds, although even the staff member handling our luggage seemed surprised we’d been asked to come back yen minutes later. Our room was lovely—spotlessly clean with a beautiful sea view. Breakfast was perfectly adequate: not exceptional, but plenty of choice and everything you’d expect. It was already very busy in April, so I imagine it could be quite hectic during peak summer. The pool area was consistently busy, and getting a sun lounger after 10am was a challenge. That said, we managed to get one each day before heading out to explore at lunchtime. It was noticeable that some guests would “reserve” loungers for long periods without using them, which felt inconsiderate. I can't imagine what time you need to be around the pool in peak summer. A few areas weren’t open yet due to the time of year, including the lower rocks for sunbathing and the Spinnaker restaurant, but I’m sure these will be great additions during the summer season. Room cleaning was somewhat inconsistent—almost like a game of bingo. Some days we’d get fresh towels but no toilet roll; other days, missing glasses or face cloths. A simple checklist system for housekeeping would really improve this. The buggy service to and from the pier was also a bit hit and miss, so we often opted to walk the 131 steps instead. It’s worth noting that this hotel may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues. Overall, the hotel could benefit from more staff to improve consistency and service levels. For us, it served its purpose as a base—we spent our evenings enjoying the fantastic restaurants in Cavtat and our days exploring the area. Despite this fairly average review of the hotel itself, we’ve already booked to return for a week in July—purely because of the location. Cavtat is undoubtedly the star of the show; hopefully the hotel takes on board feedback and makes some improvements in the coming months.
