Hotel Croatia

A nice hotel with really helpful staff and great views and facilities. It is very high up a hill but they have golf buggies to run you up and down if you don’t fancy the stairs. My only criticism is the Piano Bar - nice cocktails but a little soulless (very bright and not very welcoming). We ate in the steak restaurant onsite which was lovely, really nice food. Great location for the bars, restaurants, and bus stops in Cavtat.

We had a superior seaview room...everything about this hotel was excellent. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The decor we encountered was all fresh and new and tastefully thought out. There are many areas to walk around the hotel grounds and it does help if you are mobile and able to take advantage of the walking in the area. Some reviews had left us concerned but we found it all excellent.

I stayed here with my wife for 5 nights in September. I'd noticed a few negative reviews about this hotel and a couple of days in me and my wife couldn't understand why? I think it really is the case that people who are unhappy and like to nit pick are the ones more likely to write a review so I thought I would write one myself to put peoples minds at ease. The grounds and location are stunning, we were fortunate to stay in a superior room with a sea view and waking up to them views every morning was amazing. On our second morning, we woke up to see dolphins swimming in the sea from our balcony. The rooms itself was spacious and provided everything we needed. Our room was cleaned everyday and they left us little chocolates each time which was a nice touch. We didn't spend a great amount of time in and around the hotel during our stay mainly because we wanted to explore and see things as we hadn't been to Croatia before. The main pool area is nice, decent size pool and there were lots of sun loungers available although it wasn't peak season but was busy enough as the hotel was full. When we did spend sometime relaxing in the sun, we went around the other side of the hotel where there are chairs/loungers on the sea front, a lot more relaxing and less busy. There is also a little beach bar for drinks and a coffee in the morning. We also spent a day at the beach club at the bottom, Spinnakers. It was 50 euro (25 per person) to hire sunbeds for the day but that 50 euro was used towards food and drink so for me well worth it. The water is so clear and great for a swim to cool down in the sun. No issues with the food and drink, all very nice and again you're sat right on the sea front with the most amazing views. We didn't use the indoor pool or Spa so can't comment on that. We booked half board and the breakfast was very good. Omelette station was a nice option to have. The only negative for me was the evening food in the buffet restaurant. Selection wasn't great, we only ate there one evening and it was fairly bland. We tried on another night but it just didn't look great at all so we headed into Cavtat again. You will see a lot of comments about the steps and the walk back to the hotel, yes it is quite steep and lots of steps to tackle but as also mentioned there is a buggy service that takes you up and down and they seemed quite regular from what we saw. If you don't have mobility issues and don't mind getting your steps in you will have no issues getting up the steps back to the hotel. First of all, everything we saw and experienced in Cavtat was amazing. Everywhere you looked it was like looking at a postcard, the place is stunning. The views were out of this world. The vibe was great in and around the sea front. Everywhere we drank and ate were spot on. The pizzas from club 21 and it's sister restaurant Dalmatino were amazing. We also ate at Ciparis which is a family run seafood restaurant and I would definitely recommend eating there. Is Cavtat expensive, yes it is but I think more and more places around Europe are following a similar trend. If you are into your sunsets then little star beach bar is a great spot to go and enjoy a beer and watch the sunset. We spent a bit of time at lucky beach bar too, it was a bit more vibrant with music/sports etc, another great spot right on the beach and close to Hotel Cavtat. If you love ice cream, then you must visit aROMA. We went for an ice cream every night just so we could try as many flavours as we could. We got the ferry over to Dubrovnik on one of the days (15 euro return per person). Again, stunning place, lots to see and do (especially if you are a game of thrones fan) but it made me appreciate the more relaxing vibe back in Cavtat as it was very busy in Dubrovnik so to have the option to visit Dubrovnik then head back was the perfect option to have. We got caught in a thunderstorm on the way back on the ferry, that was fun..... But honestly, put Hotel Crotia and Cavtat on your list to visit. You won't be disappointed. I would 100% return but I am hoping to explore more of Crotia next time and head over towards Split.

Nice hotel but badly managed, it took 2 days to get a iron 3 days for tea and milk replenished even after ringing them , tv in room didn’t work most of the time and the sun beds on beach which you had to pay 25 euros you was squashed in like sardines

Hotel Croatia may not be the most mordern hotel, but it is a gem. It holds a fantastic spot overlooking the beautiful Cavtat bay. The views from the hotel into the bay and beyond are stunning. The other side of the hotel on seaward side is on a steep cliff. While this is not great for those with limited mobility, it is a real novelty with amazing views over the Adriatic and to offshore islands. There are small terraces with sun chairs. There are lots of steps down to the sea, but it is well worth the effort. Swimming in the sea was comfortable (temperature wise) and a real treat (in September). The sunsets from this side of the hotel are spectular. We were a little worried about being so far from Dubrovnik, but being based in Cavtat turned out to be perfect. The bay is so beautiful and it has enough going on by way of restaurants and bars. And in spite of reviews here, we found a small supermarket in the centre. The ferries from Cavtat into Dubrovnik are an excellent way to travel to the old town. Although, do expect a little flexibility on the timetable and it can occasionally be a bit of bun fight during busy periods. The hotel has everything you need including a spa and heated indoor swimming pool. We found the staff to be attentive and helpful. Breakfast is very nice with everything you would expect. The only minor point for me was the buffet dinner was a little bland for my personal taste, but it is obviously designed to suit the majority. Thanks to the Hotel Croatia for making our a first time in Croatia a special one. We will definitely be back.
