We recently stayed for 11 nights and had a great time. Location: the hotel is around 20 minutes up the coast from Dubrovnik (about 40 minutes from the airport). For us, as a couple , this offered the opportunity to have a quiet and relaxing stay whilst popping in and out of the city when we wanted. The hotel offers a shuttle bus running several times a day for €10 (per person one way) and drops you by the city walls. Alternatively, you can catch the local bus from outside the hotel €2.50 (per person one way). Accommodation: room was spacious with a lovely balcony with table, chairs and loungers. Facilities were as you would expect from a hotel of this standard - coffee machine, bath robes, excellent toiletries etc. The turn down service with chocolate was a lovely touch. Cleanliness was high. Club Upgrade: we upgraded to a club room so we were located on a higher floor meaning our room was super quiet. This also gave us access to the Vista roof terrace and this was a real highlight. We could enjoy the rooftop breakfast. This was a relaxing way to start the day with great à la carte options. Excellent service too - with special thanks to Sanje and Ane who were brilliant. We could also use the lounge throughout the day and were so well looked after by the wonderful Viridiana and also by the lovely Jacqueline. I would definitely recommend this, if only to watch the beautiful sunsets whilst enjoying a glass of wine and the delicious afternoon snacks. Restaurants: the hotel has a wide choice which is good considering its location. There is very little around (except a bakery opposite the hotels main entrance). We ate at most of the restaurants. Yes, prices are on the higher side, but when you consider that you have to factor in the cost of a taxi/uber if you ate out, then it wasn’t too much different than if we’d have eaten in Dubrovnik city, La Pasta - excellent pizzas (the Sun Gardens veggie pizza is delicious). Portions are generous and service very good. Thank you. Butchers Grill - highly recommended. Burgers are 10/10. Steaks are exceptional. Yes, a bit pricey but most definitely worth it. Veranda 2.0 - a must visit. This family owned restaurant really goes that extra mile. Friendly and attentive service as well as authentic, delicious dishes. Market Restaurant - a beautiful setting but the only reason we didn’t eat here was due to he fact that the menu is predominantly fish / seafood and as I have an allergy we decided against trying, but it looked very good. Cilantro - the only place we wouldn’t recommend. Menu was disjointed, food quality disappointing. But the main issue was the service. At one point I couldn’t find any staff, we’d seen one disappear to have a meal and the other two simply vanished for about 15 minutes! Despite asking if we had allergies (of which I advised fish and seafood) they then returned with an amuse bouche of swordfish! My husband also queried the sweet and sour pork dish he was served as it didn’t match the menu description to be told the chef had changed the dish and that was how it was to be served. We did hear the waiter tell another party that the chef was ‘cranky’ which was surprising to hear admitted to guests! Grounds and facilities - exceptional well kept grounds and a high level of cleanliness throughout. Three swimming pools including one just for adults was a nice touch. If you wanted supplies there is a small grocery store on site. Concierge - headed by the exceptional and very friendly Enisa who has a wealth of information, not just on the local area but also of suggestions of where to eat etc. Seek her out to make the most of your time at Sun Gardens. Thank you for all your help throughout our stay. Sun Gardens is a great place to explore the tip of Croatia and is a convenient base if you want to make a day trip to either Montenegro or Bosnia & Herzegovina. Highly recommended.

Quite a sizeable hotel spread out along the cliff side so never felt it was overcrowded. Our room that actually turned out to be a sizeable apartment was extremely well appointed and fully fitted out with full kitchen and full size fridge, a dining area a lounge area bedroom bathroom with tub but no walk in shower. A very large patio complete with table and sun beds. The cleaning service was provided and was excellent. The resort has independently run restaurants on site and we particularly rate both the Verdana and the steak restaurant. There are many pools to choose from although they were far too cold to swim in. There’s a platform area next to the marina within the grounds that fronts access onto the small pebble beach. The spa is probably one of the best we’ve ever had at a hotel with a wonderfully heated pool and adults section for steam room sauna etc. The only negative of the hotel If I was being picky I’d say the towels were too small and washed to an inch of their lives along with the robes! Also anyone with mobility issues would struggle with the amount of steps up and down across the whole site. An excellent place and we do plan to return in the future.
