Gouves Water Park Holiday Resort

Just back from Gouves Waterpark resort last week after being there for a week with my wife and 2 boys, 10 and 7. Rooms We were in room 7119 which is towards the back of the resort. It was a quieter part of the resort which suited us fine. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The beds were comfy and housekeeping were in regularly. No complaints with room whatsoever. Food There are snack bars close to the main pool which do freshly cooked pizza’s and garlic bread along with chicken and pork gyro’s amd chips and burgers also. Ice Cream is available here too. The kids were happy eating here during the day. The main restaurant is generally always busy and can be a bit chaotic at times but the food is generally good and replenished fairly quickly. Overall we were satisfied with the quality. There is an Asian restaurant and a Greek one which you can use one each per stay. The asian one was fantastic, would highly recommend if you like that type of food. The greek one, we didn’t enjoy so much. We ate out one night at a local Italian - Basilico Nuevo which I would highly recommend if you want a break from the hotel nosh. Drinks The all inclusive drinks are ok, the cocktails could be slightly better and the beer is average but we drank enough of them so they must have been ok. Pools/Slides The pools are a good size but were freezing when we were they but you get used to the temperature once you have been in for a bit. The slides in both the older kids and splash park are great, our kids loved using them although the slides in the older kids area had a minimum height limit of 120cm’s so if your children are below that then it’ll be the splash park slides. Entertainment We went to the entertainment on 3 of the 7 nights we were there, the first time we went the show was fantastic, they had a Diversity style group of dancers on who performed tricks and unicycle stunts also. The other nights we went it was a Disney themed show which we felt wasn’t as good. Overall the entertainment was ok. Daytime entertainment is lacking slightly, with it centred mainly around the pool with games like water-polo and aerobics, we never bothered with this. Other hotels we have went to had things like daytime quizzes and bingo which would have been good. Overall, the atmosphere around the hotel was good and the staff were generally polite and helpful other than the bar manager who only appeared to be nice to the female’s who were ordering drinks. The grounds of the hotel were well maintained and the stray cats, I would imagine keep unwelcome visitors such as mice etc away. We would definately return to this hotel and all enjoyed ourselves but it could improve in some area’s. We wouldn’t describe it as a real 5 star hotel but we enjoyed ourselves which is obviously the most important thing.

Avoid. Tripadvisor wont let me upload the video for some reason, so i attached screenshots from it. I never write reviews. Definitely not like this karen style complaining, but its legitimetly one the most insane things i have ever experienced. Came back from dinner at around 12 am to our entire room covered in ash and chemical smoke. A lamp in the bathroom just blew up and a (luckily) wet towel burnt up. The doors both in the bathroom and seperating the rooms were broken and straight up locked you in. We could have legitimetaly died there. No smoke detector as well. No one at the reception cared what so ever. Just gave us a new room and said we'll talk tommorow morning and "we will see if maybe the manager can help you, we cant promise anything, please leave now." When we asked if the staff could, at the very least, help us wash our reeking clothes, and give us some toothbrushes and toothpaste (ours was burnt) as we have a flight tommorow, they looked at us like we asked for 1 million dollars and a free rolls royce. They were legitimatly baffled. "You think we will go and do all this for you?". Treated us like we had a cockroach in our room or something. Blamed us for the fire well. Passive agressive, disrepectful, zero empathy. Laughing in our faces. We stayed up until 4 am at the local laundromat so that we dont stink up the whole flight with polyester smoke the day after. Some of my belonging are stained black. The morning after some british lady that claimed to be some kind of manager took our receipts for the taxi and laundromat and said she'll take care of us , she was no where to be seen at check-out we never heard from her again. The reception was different people with the exact same treatment. Laughed in our faces when we brought up compensation. The breakfast and cocktails are the only thing you will be eating there. The dinner genuinely disgusting at all of 3 places they offer. Staff outside of reception is very friendly, the lady at the cocktail bar next to the shop is very sweet, same goes for waiters. The private pools next to the rooms are freezing cold, cant even swim in them in october. Hotel visitors mostly german and british, no complaints, very polite and cordial neighbors. If you are going to Crete, pick a better hotel, or you will feel the cut costs.
