My Honest Review of Atlantica Thalassa, Kos We have just returned home in the early hours of this morning after a 9-day stay at the Atlantica Thalassa in Kos, and unfortunately, I have to be honest and say that this was not the experience I was expecting from a 4-star hotel. There were definitely some positives. The complex itself was clean and the entertainment was very good, with music around the pool during the day, bingo, quizzes and music in the evenings. The bar staff were polite and friendly, and the housekeeping team were excellent. Our rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels and everything kept tidy. A special mention must also go to Maria at reception, who was always professional, polite and helpful. Unfortunately, there were also quite a few negatives which I feel future guests should be aware of. Pool safety The lifeguard was a major concern for us. On several occasions, the lifeguard was sitting up by the bar, smoking and chatting rather than being positioned where they could clearly see the whole pool area. The children's pool was particularly difficult to see from where they were sitting. In my opinion, this is a serious safety concern and an accident waiting to happen. A lifeguard should be positioned where they have a clear view of both pools and can react immediately if needed. Building work – balconies unusable Another major disappointment was the building work taking place directly in front of our rooms. We had two rooms, and unfortunately, both were facing the building work. There was a significant amount of noise, which meant that we were unable to use our balconies during our stay. We did ask if we could move rooms. We were told there was only one room available on the opposite side of the hotel. Unfortunately, due to my mobility issues, moving to that room wasn't practical for us. This was a massive disappointment, particularly as my husband enjoys sitting on the balcony in the evening to relax. You certainly don't expect to spend your holiday looking directly at a building site, surrounded by building noise and dust, and not be able to enjoy the balcony you have paid for. I feel guests should be made aware of ongoing building work before booking, particularly when it can have such a significant impact on the enjoyment of their room. Room 109 – sewage smell, had a very strong sewage smell for the entire 9 days. We reported this, and although they sprayed air freshener, the underlying problem was never resolved. We were told there were no other rooms available, so we had no choice but to put up with it for the remainder of our stay. What was even more concerning was that there was also a sewage smell inside the restaurant, particularly around the cake area. This really isn't what I would expect from a hotel advertised as 4-star. Reception There was a lady who unfortunately came across a little bit rude at times. I think her name was Eva. Some days she’d greet you with a good morning but other days she would huff and puff when we asked a question as though we were bothering her. Maybe she was having bad days like we all do but when you're on holiday and have a genuine question or problem, you shouldn't feel like you're inconveniencing reception staff. Food For me, the food was one of the biggest disappointments. I personally would rate this hotel more like a 3-star rather than a 4-star, mainly because of the restaurant. The food was very repetitive and, a lot of the time, it was cold. The eggs at breakfast were often very runny and unappetising. Pork chops every day, Don't get me wrong, if you like salads, there was plenty of choice. But overall, we were so disappointed with the food that we ended up going out to local restaurants for decent dinners. Most of the time we only ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel. I was also surprised that hot chocolate wasn't available in the evening and could only be obtained when the restaurant was open. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, this was particularly disappointing. Drinks The bar staff were lovely and polite, but the soft drinks were far too sweet. A lot of people were complaining about the taste of the Coke. I think the syrup needs changing, or they need to use less syrup when preparing the drinks. Sunbeds Another major issue was the sunbeds. If you aren't down at the pool by around 8am, you have very little chance of getting a sunbed around the pool. There are plenty of beds on the grass area, but if you want to be beside the pool, it's a different story. We reported this issue twice. When I asked reception how people were allowed to leave towels on sunbeds from as early as 6am, I was told that towels would be removed at 9am if nobody was using the beds. Unfortunately, this simply wasn't happening. My husband eventually had to go down to the pool at 7am just to secure sunbeds next to the pool. This is completely unfair to other paying guests. If the hotel has a policy about removing towels from unattended sunbeds, then that policy needs to actually be enforced. Hotel beach Another disappointment was the hotel's beach, which is located across the road from the hotel. If you want to use the beach, you have to pay for the sunbeds. Personally, I don't think this is acceptable when you're staying at an all-inclusive hotel, particularly when it is advertised as having its own beach. Taxis Be careful when booking taxis through the hotel. We weren't made aware that there would be an additional charge simply because the taxi had been pre-booked through the hotel. A taxi into town could cost €10, €12 or €15 they charge what they like, but in the evenings it was extremely difficult to get one back, and on one occasion we were charged €25. In the end, we started using the bus, which cost us just €2 per person. We also had a particularly bad experience when visiting Paradise Beach, which was absolutely beautiful. We pre-booked a taxi through the hotel for the return journey. The taxi failed to arrive, and we waited for around 30 minutes. Then we contacted the taxi company, we were told the driver had a flat tyre and someone would be there in 45 minutes. That turned out not to be true. It appeared that our booking had simply been forgotten. We ended up waiting around an hour and a half, which was particularly difficult as we were travelling with a disabled person who was left sitting there waiting for the taxi. The taxi ultimately cost us €120. when we could have taken the bus for around €5.50 each. We feel the hotel could of explained to us about getting a bus which would of been 100 euros cheaper. And also the cab wasn't ordered to collect us. Overall There are certainly good things about this hotel — the complex was clean, the entertainment was excellent, the housekeeping team were fantastic, the bar staff were polite, and Maria on reception was extremely professional. However, unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives for us. The building work and the fact that we couldn't use either balcony, the sewage smell in our room and restaurant, cold and repetitive food, lack of enforcement around sunbeds, concerns about the lifeguard, poor experiences with some reception staff and the problems we experienced with taxis all contributed to what was, overall, a disappointing holiday. Personally, I would not rate this as a 4-star hotel. I would give it 3 stars at best. I am writing this review because I believe people deserve to know about both the good and the bad before spending their hard-earned money here. Would I recommend Atlantica Thalassa? Unfortunately, no.
Fabulous hotel , first time to Kos and a great experience. Lovely hotel , small & clean but very welcoming with such friendly, happy staff. Entertainment staff friendly but not in your face…lots of activity’s offered through the day and then entertainment each evening. Lovely pool area with no problem getting a sunbed but we are early birds. Weather was perfect aswell. Room spotlessly cleaned by the lovely Jenny. Beds sooo comfy. Buffet restaurant staff all friendly and food a good standard only small but something each day for everyone… I always found a veggie dish each day and the best deserts. Drinks in bar served each evening by attentive staff always with a smile. Good choice of cocktails. À la carte meal was lovely but portions were huge. Location isn’t the best as you do need a taxi or a bus to get to places but these are readily available and reception are happy to book taxis … we never waited more than 20 mins. I would happily rebook this hotel, we had such a fabulous relaxing week here and it deserves 5 stars.
I loved this hotel. Everything about it. Lovely and clean we got room 121 which was a family room and it was just the 2 of us so made the space so much more easier to store our suitcases and hang more clothes. Entertainers were great especially Kat she always came over and made an effort to talk to us. Lifeguard was super friendly as I previously read a comment about her not taking much notice and smoking infront of guests. I was there for 11 nights and didn’t see any of this. She was professional at her job in my opinion! The food for me was fine always had something to eat some days better than others but a standard all inclusive. Rooms were cleaned daily. All cleaners been friendly. Hotel staff see lovely. An all round lovely all inclusive hotel.
Had a lovely relaxing stay here with our sons age 17 and 21. Very relaxing and just the right size of hotel (big enough to be lively but not so big to be overwhelming). The entertainment team - Cat and Jaylin - worked really hard and were a lot of fun. My sons enjoyed the football and table tennis, also enjoyed a music quiz and bingo in the evening. However, the entertainment does not disrupt the peace and you can opt in or out as you wish, so if it's not your thing don't worry. Lots of other positives - beds super comfy, quiet at night, food was really good (particularly recommend the a la carte which you can have once if you are all inclusive), buffets do get a bit repetitive but the food was cooked very well, hot and plenty of choice. I also loved being able to sit outside to eat with the cats! The all day snack bar also provided an alternative to lunch in the buffet and you can get ice cream from the pool bar all day. We had two trips out - once boat trip and a trip to the excellent water park, but otherwise stayed on site. It's a shame they charge extra for the sunbeds on the beach, and the beds round the pool are hard to get (though plenty of beds very close by on the grass). There isn't much nearby but the bus to Kos town was reliable and not overcrowded when we went at the end of August. But if you want a lovely relaxing all inclusive hotel with nice food and don't want to go out every evening then this is perfect. (One other observation - there is some building work going on really close by, didn't impact on us even though our room was near it, but I am not sure what is being built and whether that might impact on the hotel in the future, keep an eye on future reviews)
Just returned from a perfect week at the Atlantica Thalassa. we returned once again to have the perfect holiday and are already booking for another visit next year. The staff are wonderful greeting you with smiles every time and nothing is too much trouble. Iliana on the pool bar was always a ray of joy and Jenny the cleaner who catered to our very whim without hesitation and always with a smile. The food was excellent again and there was ample selection to cater for every ones taste. Themed nights were impressive too with the Chinese night theme with the awesome chine duck and won tons were impressive too. A nice touch was the a la carte restaurant who produced some great food and there was great entertainment in the Bar on an evening catering for adults and children beforehand as well We will soon be back and cannot wait
