    Excepțional

We stayed for a week early October . The Hotel rooms are basic ( as all Greece is ) but spotlessly clean and a bonus of a fridge .( As English couples a kettle would have been a real win !!! ) Fresh towels and sheets every day but Sundays , a really good choice of food 3 times a day, plus snacks at the pools , we liked the local wines and beers . All the staff are very helpful and friendly , some of them seen to be onsite 23 hours but never stop being kind . The lovely ladies to mention are Kiki in the restaurant , Ferenoula at the top pool bar ( i think that's the spelling ) and the fantastic French lady on entertainment and pool aerobics who's name we didn't get !! All in all, for what we paid and what we got, we couldn't fault our stay and will return .

Tigaki: a nice small town in the North of the island with a long stretch of beach. Plenty of tourist shops and places to eat, and loads of car hire places. The sea was quite choppy most days due to the wind from the North, windy most days. Sunbeds cost around €20 per parasol. Sand is okay but quite grainy, some shingle as you get into the sea, then soft sand and shallow for quite a distance into the water. Saw jellyfish towards the end of our two week stay, end September early October. Probably due to the water being warm. Hotel Corali was good, booked two rooms for four of us which were on the top floor with distant sea views. Rooms were basic but clean, beds not especially comfortable even with an extra pillow and mattress topper, but they were okay once you get used to them. Air con worked fine and didn’t smell bad like some do. Shower was not great, small bath with shower over. Easy to get the floor wet due to flimsy shower curtain. One of the shower heads could not be adjusted so had to hold it to wash. One of the rooms had no lock on bathroom door. My suggestion for the hotel to improve this would be to put a handle within the shower, so you have something to grip onto and get in and out safely. Tourist tax was 10 euro per room per night – they offered cash or card payment when we checked in. The entrance to one of our rooms was hard to unlock, and to close. Plenty of storage in the room. TV but only English channels seem to be news channels. Nice to have a fridge in each room. Food: good variety all day. I preferred the lunchtime selection. Breakfast was quite repetitive, but there is only so many items you can expect for breakfast. Duck was delicious, and turkey chunks in a creamy sauce was good too. Some of the dishes were luke warm at best, although there is a microwave if you want to heat things up. Self service hot and cold drinks in restaurant which is handy. This includes beer and wine and soft drinks. Service at tables is generally quick and efficient. If food runs out it is replaced quickly. The restaurant staff were all friendly and efficient, and hard working. Pools: choice of two, both with bars serving drinks and snacks. Chilled music, plenty of good sunbeds and parasols. Towels available from the pool at 11am but sometimes these were late and clearly caused some frustration with guests when this happened. Water was quite cold, but this is to be expected at the time of year, warmest in the afternoon. Some signs of green mold in places around the pool. Only saw animation team once each day’s for water polo which nobody participated in. They asked about Yoga a couple of times. There is an agenda for events at reception but they do not appear to be following this. They were present in the evening for entertainment during the week days. Entertainment was good on the whole, only takes place Mon to Fri. Couple of singing acts, karaoke night went down well, as did Greek night. Bingo costs €5 per ticket, no idea what the prize is. Music quiz, which was fun, but when me and my daughter won, the winner was not announced and we had no prize given, which was dismissed by the animation person. Prizes were given the previous week…but we didn’t take part on that night. Bar staff in all the bars were friendly, helpful and polite. Loved the Rose wine each evening. Cocktails were on the all-inclusive, although Gin and lemonade cannot really be classed as a cocktail, even if it is called Gin Fizz. What we liked were the Mocktails, which you can add alcohol to if you wish. Red Fizz was a particular favorite. The beer is light and very drinkable in the sun. I was disappointed not to be given a bottle of champagne for my birthday though – I did tell them on reception it was my birthday. They said ‘happy birthday’. Location of hotel feels remote, although 400m from beach. We did several excursions through Tui, and had walk to and from the hotel to the sea front along the narrow road and past a building site. This includes at night, using our phone torches after being out all day. Other excursions seem to collect and drop off at the hotel. Not exactly VIP. If you like cats, you will love Kos. Our hotel had lots of ‘resident’ cats that were very friendly and entertaining. They won’t think twice about stealing your sunbed. One of them even made it’s was into our room and settled down on the bed for the evening! Our hotel had a tennis court – a bit weathered but served it’s purpose, and you can get bats and balls from reception. There was also a good gym, table tennis, pool tables etc. Taxi: expensive and unreliable. We downloaded an app for the biggest taxi firm on the island, which worked fine once, but when trying to return from Kos we could not get a taxi for love nor money. We were lucky to get a private hire, which did cost 50% more but vehicle was nice and the driver was great – polite and reliable. Kosdrivr.gr. We went on several excursions, including a half day boat cruise from Kos to Pserimos Island and the Blue Lagoon on a pirate ship – great fun and the island was beautiful. A visit to Nysiros and to see the volcano – a full day out but great and so scenic. We spent the day at Paradise Beach – well worth it and one of the highlights of the trip. The key question is would we go back. The answer, yes on all fronts. We loved the hotel and the island!

So I'll start by saying this wasn't the right hotel for me but I'll try and keep this depersonalized. Room was dated but very clean, the bed was like sleeping on concrete for the first 2 nights until another guest mentioned mattress toppers were available at reception. After that great sleep, it would have been good to have been told at check in these were available. My personal hate is shower curtains and I had this around a very small shower space meaning it stuck to me with every movement. Air con was efficient and worked perfectly. Food is good, excellent selection which changed daily and surprisingly for an AI was hot. Kudos to the team for this. Pools .. to be fair I only tried this one day and I have never known a more uncomfortable sunbed. There's no mattress topper and I could feel every metal bar. I only managed half a day before giving up and heading to the beach. Location was ok, it's a 5 min walk to the beach and then another 20 into tigaki but along the beach so was a pleasant walk. They could do with some form of lighting along the road up to the hotel as it was incredibly dark and intimidating to walk up alone as a solo female. Staff on reception were incredibly helpful and friendly, restaurant staff I'd say not as friendly but still available to help if approached. Would I stay again no, would I recommend yes I probably would.
