Kalithea Horizon Royal

My husband, our 8-year-old child, and I stayed at this hotel. After the first night, our child was covered in bites; when I went to reception, they said it was normal and told me to buy a cream from the hotel shop. There were flies everywhere—absolutely everywhere! Of the three of us, I fell ill with a stomach bug—even on our last day. We reported it at reception because it happened on the day of our departure; our transfer was at 9 PM, but checkout was at noon. We wanted to keep the room until at least 6 PM (at a cost of 10 euros per hour), but they would only agree to let us book one extra hour, which didn't help me at all. The worst part was that a few days after arriving, I started feeling increasingly unwell—to the point where I couldn't walk or even get out of bed. I ended up in the hospital, where I spent 10 days being treated for a bacterial infection. I have since filed a complaint with TUI, but if you want to stay healthy, I do not recommend this hotel!

Me and my husband have just returned back after a fantastic 2 weeks in the greek sunshine spent at this fab hotel. We were bit wary after some negative reviews, but we disagree with all of them as we had zero issues what so ever! We arrived quite late at night but were quickly checked in and taken to our room via golf buggy. Room was lovely and as expected. Comfortable bed, great aircon, lovley views down into falarki bay from the balcony. Mini bar replenished frequently. Fresh towels and room service daily.Only niggle to report is the bathroom ceiling in room 779 needs a little attention as one area was leaking now and again onto the floor but this didn't impact our stay. The hotel is huge and plenty of sunloungers available by the main pool and Mythos pool. Also plenty of extra loungers in the relax and hot tub area. You are able to use both hotels facilities, bars, restaurants and pools so you are spoiled for choice. The only area we didn't use was the beach and beach bar as this was not included as a yellow wristband guest. Those with mobilty issues may struggle walking around the hotel grounds but we noticed you could jump on the golf buggies to get around if needed or to go down to the hotel beach. For an all inclusive we thought the food was the best we'd ever had! Full of flavour, huge selection and choice which would cater to even the fussiest of eaters. Plenty of choice for all mealtimes from breakfast through to evening mealtime.We preffered to dine in the Thassala indoor restaurant for breakfast and evening meal, then lunchtime spent at the Athena restuarant with its panoramic views all around. Tasty fresh crepes cooked infront of you were my favourite.We did try breakfast at the Athena restaurant one morning but found it quite chaotic and food not so warm as the Thassala restaurant. Always different theme nights on too and we never had a bad meal. All staff were friendly and attentive at the restaurant and would even remember our drinks orders. There is also the Acropolis grill taverna on site which served lovely fresh gyros, kebabs and burgers. Also daily not far from Mythos pool, there was an outdoor bbq area where they cooked different items everyday from hot dogs to souvlaki etc. Also plenty of snacks available at every pool bar during the daytime too. There is also an a la carte part that can be booked too but we chose not to try this. Good variety of entertainment every night in both the main bar and outside the Athena restaurant. Abba and Boney M were fab. You do however need to grab your seats early if you want a good spot for the popular shows. Again no issues to report from both bar areas. Main bar was table service, other was bar or table service.Great selection of cocktails and local beers, spirits and wines available on the all inclusive. We didn't use the Safari bar as this seemed more childern orientated with mini disco etc. There is a fab animation team working everyday with many activities to get involved in if you wish, but they were never pushy if you didn't wish to take part. I enjoyed a few fun aqua zumba sessions in the main pool with Panda and co. Free shot at the end of each one, I wouldn't get that back home after a gym class! Hotel well maintained and all of its surroundings. Staff constantly cleaning and clearing empty plates etc away. We didn't notice any huge fly issuss at all as previous reviews mentioned. Yes there were some spotted in the more outdoor and open Athena restaurant but very minimal. Didn't encounter any miserable or rude staff either. Hotel offers stunning views all around. Short taxi or bus ride into Rhodes town or Falaraki. Bus stop right outside hotel and taxis easily booked at reception. Also the stunning Kalithea springs and the Kalithea cat sanctuary just a short 15min walk from the hotel. There is also a well stocked mini shop on site too. And please take a trip down to the pretty Lindos if you can, and we also enjoyed a boat trip to Symi. We loved our stay here and didn't want to leave!We also booked a late checkout room though Tui so were alble to keep our room untill 6pm on our day of depature.So please ignore the negative reviews, these people must have been staying in a different hotel!

Avoid if you can. Single female traveller here of 68 years young. Arrived 19th Sept after a long transfer. Ground floor patio doors couldn't be locked. It took 2 days for them to move me. Did I feel vulnerable in a place I didnt know, hell yes. Flies everywhere. Food left open most of the day and usually luke warm. What didn't get eaten at dinner was served at lunch. Pool side bars only serve cold snacks so you have to go to the restaurants and they are all buffet style and not particularly inspiring. I met with friends one of whom had a deli belly for the last two days. Its miles from anywhere, so its local buses or taxis. Moving around the hotel is by buggy, these guys are super friendly and helpful. The maids are friendly and helpful and my room was spotless. Generally, its tired and dated. I wouldnt go back.

Food at this hotel is appalling. Food was constantly on the buffet cold and inedible. Resort itself is nice, book here if you want to eat chicken nuggets and chips all holiday. 2 people out of our group got food poisoning. Won’t be returning

Lovely location staff very friendly however the food hygiene in the buffet restaurants was dreadful no evidence of any food safety system in place. Unless you went to the restaurants when they first opened at 6.30pm hot food was at best lukewarm. More alarmingly high risk food seafood and dairy products were being displayed and served at room temperature which is extremely dangerous and could lead to a very serious case of food poisoning. Chefs were witnessed in The Athena Restaurant dipping there fingers in the food then licking their fingers to see if was hot. Flys were everywhere then we found out there was a sewage works just outside of the hotel, this explained the bad smell circulating certain parts of the hotel. Having visited this Hotel 9 years ago Standards have significantly dropped and investment is needed in a food safety manager to been seen front of house check all of the food and beverages are to to the required level.
