Rhodos Horizon Resort

esort* We spent a week here with my partner and were left a bit disappointed for a 4* resort. We'd booked a superior room and got placed on the 1st floor of building 2, right above the restaurant. Every morning we were woken up by binmen and restaurant staff throwing crates and bottles into the bins. I had to go out and buy ear plugs just to get some sleep. I'm still not sure what made it a "superior" room, it certainly didn't feel like one. On the plus side, the room was cleaned daily, with beds made and towels changed. Pool towels were a different story though, they were left to pile up. Food was hit and miss. Breakfast was decent enough. Lunch wasn't great, and some evenings I struggled to find much I fancied (I can be a bit fussy, to be fair). One night I ordered chicken giros and had to leave most of it, the meat was poor quality, very fatty and gristly. Most days the food was only lukewarm rather than hot. We didn't even bother trying for a sun lounger at the main pool, we weren't going to queue for one at the crack of dawn. We used the smaller pool round the back instead, where we could usually get a bed without any fuss. The pool areas could really do with a refurb, and the loungers need modernising, maybe some cushioning too.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. It was I our fourth holiday here within the last 10 years so we were interested to compare it with our first visit. We had a sea view balcony room which was cleaned to a high standard by the cleaning staff. The food in the restaurant was plentiful although we did note that the air conditioning was not as cool as it used to be. We noted this across the whole hotel including the bedrooms. The pool areas were very clean and safe, why there is a rush to put your towels on the sunbeds in the morning is confusing. Chill out people there are plenty of beds around the pools and at the beach. As the beach does not get cleaned by the tide, the area is littered with cigarette butts. The sea appears to be safe and warm. The staff at the hotel are its main asset. We were served in the restaurant by a lovely lady called Magla, she was hard working and always happy making it a pleasure to eat in her section. The comparison with our first holiday: the air conditioning was warmer and less efficient this time. We did not have dressing gowns and slippers this time. The food offerings in the restaurant were about the same. The entertainment was about the same standard. The staff were just as good which says a lot for the standard required. Overall we had another great holiday.

This was our 4th time at the Rhodos Horizon. I don't want to say it was the worst visit but it wasn't the best. On this occasion we were in the main building over looking the long pool. The room was great, spacious with lots of storage. Downside, I don't think housekeeping in this building were as attentive as the ones in the 2nd building. Bed linen not changed for the entire stay, tea/coffee/milk not stocked up regularly, the floor not swept properly, beach towels not replaced unless we asked. We used both the main pool and the long pool and got a sunbed everyday without it turning into an 100m sprint. Pool areas are tired, beds & umbrellas could do with a spruce up. On this occasion we didn't go to the beach. The dining area & food were good. A great selection for most. You will always find something to eat. I don't know about sunbed wars...it was more like toaster wars on some mornings. We only went for lunch on 1 day but found it was the same selection of food as the night before. Theme nights were Greek & Chinese which were a nice touch. Again on this occasion we didn't go for the Al a carte. We always went to the sunset bar in the 2nd building to have a drink. Good selection of cocktails/alcohol & soft drinks. The barmen are fab and recognised us from past visits which is a nice touch. All the staff are pleasant and friendly, can't fault their customer service, especially when we got caught up in the ATC debacle. The hotel were able to extend our stay in our room til 5pm for €50 which is a small price to pay when you're desperate. Big shout out to Rena the tui rep...she was fantastic in keeping us informed. The hotel is in a great location to Rhodes town..15/20 min walk away. Honest opinion.......some areas do need a cosmetic uplift but other than that I couldnt fault it. I will be coming back but not for a couple of years

We booked a week in early September and as I write this (on the beach) we have 2 days left. The hotel is a large 3 building hotel, busy with a mixture of all nationalities, we found the hotel to by clean and staff were good and friendly. Room We had room 323 in building 2 with a sea view and found the room ideal for our needs, room service daily and very clean, facilities good with superb air con, a safe, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities and mini fridge. The room was snug but plenty of room for us. Tv for catching up on the news or watching a film like superman! The bathroom was nice with an excellent shower and sink. Beds we found to be comfy and both had a good nights sleep. Food The food was generally good, however like all all inclusives was repetitive and sometimes a bit bland, however we always managed to find something nice to eat. Drinks The drinks are excellent, always available from morning till 11pm then charged after 11pm. The beer was ok, and cocktails very good, be warned though, very strong as I found out after 4 zombies! Coffee and tea out of machines not the best but drinkable. Pool area For the size of the hotel, the pool area isn’t really big enough, hence Sun bed wars at 8am if you don’t get before 8 you have little chance of a sunbed ( this applies to main pool as there are 3 pools here, we didn’t go to smaller pools so can’t comment on that. The pool area is nice, and pool lovely with poolside bar and snacks very close. Beach The beach is literally over the road with a tunnel to it, there you’ll find a lovely beach bar and toilets, the beach itself is nice with plenty of sunbeds and good amenities such as beach showers and bins. The beach is a pebble and shingle beach so beach shoes are recommended. The sea is beautiful and clear but with the wind can get a little rough so be careful if you struggle on your feet Talking of wind this area of Rhodes is on the windy side of Rhodes but we found it to be refreshing and didn’t bother us in the slightest. Location Superb beach front location with just a 20 minute walk to the picturesque old town (or a €10 taxi) there is a bus stop right outside too. Plenty of shops and tavernas just 5 minutes down the road Summery Would we stay here again? YES we had a wonderful holiday and felt looked after and fed well, I can’t think of any negatives apart from some of the ignorant and rude guests, but that isn’t the fault of the hotel. Arrived the end of August for 14 nights, greeted on arrival with a glass of prosecco and pre made rolls as it was late evening, quick run through on hotel and brought to our room which was room 101. Room was small but that was fine until I was woken in the early hours by a bin truck empying bins and then realised our balcony overlooked a service area, the noise from there on did not stop until I had to go sit at reception at 5.30am to get a break from it, first thing this was mentioned to reception as this was very poor room allocation for a 14 night stay and the hotel came up trumps and gave us a room change to one we could not have asked better with a beautiful sea view so for this we were extremely grateful. Unfortunately this is the only positive. Staff in this hotel i could say nothing bad about, liza in rhodos bar and martin in sunset, lovely people and very friendly. I did notice certain guests getting special treatment, assume returning guests. Cleanliness of the hotel is good and the cleaning staff work tirelessly here although some parts are tired and shabby and could do with some tlc. Eg.decking at pool areas. Beer and cocktails are a good standard also. Now the food, how anyone thinks the food is good here is beyond me, it is cold and bland and if it can be made into a stew it will be and if its not a stew its dried up meat, in my opinion terrible! Both myself and my partner both got sick here, never have we been sick in all our years of holidays and both spent 48 hours in bed, im aware there is a virus on the island but I would be also a bit wary of the food at the hotel. Entertainment terrible and just not for us, guests here seem to be predominantly in the older age category and some are quite rude and entitled. Pool Entertainment was the same thing day in day out and the same music played over and over. Sunbeds another disaster! Being from ireland our first priority on holiday is sun, we had to set our alarm at 6am every morning to be down by the pool at 7am to be in the que for the pool to open at 8am not because we wanted to but because if u didnt u had no hope of a bed and if u were lucky to get one after this is was in the shade and we are not beach people to be heading for the beds there, staff members came out and just before 8am and waved there hands to signal people to go run for their sunloungers like a teacher leaving kids out to the playground in school, i witnessed arguments over queuing and who's bed was whos all over this, I was even told by one particular guest one day to take my umbrella down as it was putting her in the shade, the umbrella was up that day because my partner was ill and wanted to be in the shade! You also have the camera crew on the balconies videoing all this as if this is actually what people want to do! If u dont do it u dont get a bed basically and u dont get the sun. All in all it was a break from the norm, would I come back to this hotel, never but then we would not come back to rhodos in general it just wasn't a place for us, nothing much to do and no atmosphere also found the food not great compared with other places we have visited in Greece.
