Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas

There are I think 4 Riu Palace hotels on Gran Canaria - make sure you know which is which ! Apart from the usual scramble for the sunbeds, it’s hard to find fault with this hotel, the staff or its location, a two minute €3.25 taxi ride away from the gay-friendly Yumbo Centre. Adult only, breakfast and dinner included in the price , but all drinks and lunches will be extra. Buy water from the supermarket opposite!

First time staying at a RIU, had often walked past the hotel in Playa Del Ingles and it always looked impressive, so this year we decided to go for it and booked the location. On arrival, we were greeted walmly, pointed to our room and it was everything we hoped for. Balcony with Dunes/Sea view, huge shower area, two sinks and the beds/matresses, were truly comfortable. Air con. worked perfectly and kept the room cool even in the 30+ celsius degree heat. The dining at breakfast had everything you could hope for, fresh omlettes, eggs (poached/fried/scrambled/ even scrambled egg whites only), sour dogh bread, porridge, fresh fruit, so many pastries, pancaked, churros with hot chocolate (if you choose), fresh fruit juice and sparkling wines. Exceptional choice! Evening meals were of a similar quality, Pizza, Pasta, Asian style noodles/rice, Vegetarian curry, a huge selection of fish and usually a meat of the day, which varied from Duck, Roast Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Ribs and Poached Salmon, all with a variety of veg including Asparagus, Green Beans, Peas/Sweetcorn, a variety of potatoes etc, etc. To be honest, if you aren't satisfied with the choice, you never would be! The hotel itself has a great selection of comfort features, two good pools, a gym, salon and a variety of evening entertainment, which in fairness was either good or on one occasion...pretty rough! The two blokes wearing caps and the Spanish singer (I'm sure he mimed some), they were a bit awful, but then we got other nights with a Tina Turner Tribute, hits through the decades and the standout "A Kind of Magic" tribute to Queen and that was worth staying in for. Coud have watched them every night! The hotel istalf is exceptional, the service too and the staff very friendly and happy to help when they can. My wife and I were staying there for our anniversary and they provided a nice bottle of sparkling wine free to the room to help us celebrate. Just a really nice touch. Would I go again? Yes, absolutely. Fantastic hotel and fantastic location.

Delighted to find that, at long last, the Riu management team at this hotel have listened to the many complaints about the pool beds being extremely uncomfortable and provided thick matresses for every lounger..

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, so impressed with staff, room, food, drinks, pool and entertainment. We will definitely be returning back again.
