Catalonia Punta del Rey

A lot of people complained about the hotel but what do you expect after paying what was charged for the holiday. It's not a 4 or 5 star hotel, and yes they could make things better looking but the food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was satisfactory and replenished often. Could do with air conditioning that works in the bar area but the main problem we encountered was that the hotel was very busy with mostly those from France. We found the older the French, the more inconsiderate they were with barging in to an orderly queue. If you want a sun lounger, make sure you do what everyone was doing and leave your towel on one as early in the morning as possible. Some even went out for the day and came back to claim them. Perhaps the hotel should make sure that this doesn't happen. If you want a cheap all inclusive holiday in the sun, and are prepared to put up with the bad manners of the older French brigade, then look no further.

This hotel is set in a beautiful part of the island. The hotel has so much to offer. There is so much to do through the day and night with lots of shows. The pool activities are brilliant. A big thank you too all the amenities staff. They do a great job. The resteraunt and bar staff are so helpful. I would like to say a massive thank you to Arminda, Shere, Lurdes and Roque. They were so helpful and friendly all day. Also thank you for a fantastic holiday. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants a nice relaxed holiday.

We decided to go against what we’d read in the negative reviews about Punta del Ray and go ahead and book it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to critique other people’s valid experiences but to share my own experiences of an 11 night stay. The hotel is huge. Arriving later at night won’t give anyone a great first impression when some guests are wandering around drunk but what will give you reassurance is the warm welcome from the lovely reception staff, along with the daily smiles and “good morning” from them. Yes, the rooms are dated. The hotel is dated but it serves a purpose and it is clean. We paid a little extra to go premium and personally, this was worth every penny. We didn’t use the robes/slippers but it’s good to have a kettle and a fridge in the room. The daily chocolates were a lovely touch, as are the bottle of cava and pastry type things that we never ate or drank. The bathrooms have a good selection of toiletries that we also didn’t use as we bring our own anyway but again, a thoughtful touch. I’ll be perfectly honest, as much as I enjoyed this hotel and the staff everywhere are lovely, I wasn’t keen on the dining area. It is a depressing space. As soon as you walk through the doors, you’re hit with an overwhelming stench of grease and smoke. The food for me wasn’t amazing but you can find something to eat so you don’t starve. This is personal preference though so decide for yourself. There is a lot of choice however, the salad was clearly wasn’t fresh as the cucumber was dry and the peppers were wrinkly like when you get them discounted from your local supermarket. The food isn’t covered so there are always flies on the food but there aren't any electric fly zappers on the walls which contributes to the problem. Again, staff are lovely but cleaning tables without antibacterial/sanitising spray and just a damp cloth gave me the ick. You’re also very close to your fellow diners as everyone is crammed in. The entertainment team were so good in the big cabaret room upstairs putting on shows like Chicago etc. Take a fan with you for any shows because it is so hot in there even with the windows open. Again, staff so lovely and they clearly work hard. My favourite bit was the solarium. Fantastic views and two jacuzzis to cool off in. The self-service bar often ran out of beer and water but when you have other guests filling large Stanley cups up with beer, it’s no surprise that their greed leaves others without. It could be difficult some days to get water replenished so we just went to the shop next to the hotel. This hotel might not be perfect to some but I can absolutely see why other guests come for long stays as it has everything you need. You can also get the bus just along from the hotel into Santa Cruz or the opposite direction to Candelaria which has a stunning church and some lovely shops.

the hotel was very nice clean and the staff was helpful and approachable food was fantastic too many choices nothing to do outside the hotel although the hotel supplied everything you needed

This is my 1st review while I'm here at Pinta Del Rey. Pros Good selection of drinks & food. Even though a bit repetitive in main restaurant but you won't starve. Rooms cleaned each day. Loads of sunbeds & parasols. Staff are lovely & very polite. Entertainment staff work very hard and have great interaction with holiday makers. & nightly entertain is good. Good bus service & shops near by. There's alot of other good points to this hotel. Cons which is only a couple. Adults being allowed to drink while standing in the children's pool with their cups one side of the pool on the wall getting increasingly drunk on the alcohol they are consuming, while small children are using the pool. Do not think this is right at all, even the male life guard stepped over the cups without even sating anything to them. Not saying people shouldn't drink but don't believe they should drink while standing in a children's pool. Hotel staff should put a stop to this. Food repetitive. Returning holiday makers making a honest review.
