Castellare di Tonda Resort

In early June, my daughter and I spent a wonderful week at Castellare di Tonda. We came for the horseback riding but fell in love with the entire experience. The riding program was fabulous. There is something magical about seeing Tuscany from the back of a wonderful horse. We rode through high grass, vineyards, olive groves and forests. We especially loved the all-day rides with picnic lunches, complete with wine, coffee and homemade breads and desserts. The riding is Western style, with great tack and exceptionally well-trained, responsive horses. The stable was well maintained and the horses beautifully cared for. Elsa, our wrangler, made our experience even more special. She knew her horses, matched us well and made every ride enjoyable. She also checked in daily to make sure we had everything we needed. Our room had a kitchen and patio, and we were steps from a lovely swimming pool. There’s also a wonderful breakfast, bar and patio. Castellare di Tonda truly felt like an oasis in a hectic world. For anyone who loves horses and wants to experience Tuscany from the saddle, it is a very special place. I think this one actually makes the **riding program stand out more** because it isn't competing with as many details.

We were really looking forward to this stay based on the photos, which made the place look beautiful and highly recommended. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t match up at all. The rooms were worn and very spartan. The beds were uncomfortable — several had a dip in the mattress that made it tiring to sleep on. We also found squashed mosquitoes with blood stains on the walls, clearly left from previous guests. The Wi-Fi was poor to non-existent. There was no signal indoors at all, so we had to walk around the property just to get a connection. For the price we paid, we expected a much higher standard. We were genuinely disappointed and would recommend avoiding this place.

Well meaning friendly people on a old, dirty and tired infrastructure: dirty rooms, brocken shelves, dirty sheets and covers (stains you never ever want to see) , bloody wall stains from crushed Moskitos, broken toilet appliances, broken safe, holes in the walls,... All in all very disappointing. This place had it's time long ago.

The rooms were in very poor condition and extremely worn down. The beds were uncomfortable, and the apartment was not properly cleaned. The internet/Wi-Fi did not work inside the apartment. Several other guests were complaining about the same issues while we were there. The standard is nowhere near what you would expect for the price. Stay away – it is simply not worth the money.
