Grand Hotel Bonanno

We stayed at Grand Hotel Bonanno during a particularly hot period in Pisa. On arrival, we informed reception that the air conditioning in our room did not appear to be working properly and that the room was very hot. Maintenance was sent to check it the following day and we were told that there was nothing wrong, despite the room temperature being around 26°C. We then asked whether it would be possible to move to another room where the air conditioning might work better. We were initially told that the hotel was fully booked. While trying to find a solution, we were subsequently lied to and told that the rooms are set to 24°C and cannot be adjusted below this controlled centrally at reception and cannot be adjusted in the roomo. This was disappointing, particularly as the reception area was noticeably cooler than our room, not that we want to be sleeping in a freezer, but just cool enough to not be sweating with the air conditioning on. We understand that we were visiting during a heat wave and appreciate that this made the situation more difficult. However, our main concern is that the room was advertised as having air conditioning, while in practice we were unable to get the room to a comfortable temperature. The communication from reception during this situation was also disappointing and did not leave us feeling particularly well supported. The breakfast was average, with a limited selection and some of the food lacking freshness and flavour. The mini fridge in the room also did not keep items particularly cold. On the positive side, the hotel is in a convenient and relatively affordable location, with many of Pisa's main sights within walking distance. Overall, Grand Hotel Bonanno would be fine for a short stopover, but based on our experience, we would have expected the advertised facilities and level of service to be more consistent than with what was actually provided. Not really reaching the 4 star service in any way as advertised.

Ok. Bit far out and I had to walk on quiet roads and underpass to get to the tower and city. The room was fine. Breakfast was basic but suitable. Near to Pisa San Rossore station, not Pisa Centrale.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Was pretty sceptical after reading the reviews, but we had nothing to worry about. It's a great base to explore Pisa. It's only about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the hotel to the tower. The hotel it's self is clean and comfortable, a little dated, but nothing to write home about. Good breakfast in the morning. Plenty of variety. We eat in the restaurant one night. Good food and reasonably priced, also the hotel bar was reasonably priced as well. All the staff we came into contact with were all helpful and polite. I don't know if I would go to Pisa again, only because once you've seen it, there's nothing much else to see, but if I did I would definitely go back to this hotel and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Second time at this hotel and they have made small upgrades like free coffee in the room that was really appreciated. We like the service and location of this hotel and also value for money. Not the best view but my son is a trainspotter so he was very happy! Great breakfast here. One small improvement that could be made is the cleaning detail in the rooms. The public areas are spotless but the rooms have scuff marks on the walls , mould in the grout of the tiles and limescale around the shower doors. This is the only reason I did not give 5/5!

We had a super 3 night stay at Grand Hotel Bonnano. The room was clean and comfortable, air con was excellent (which was vital during a heatwave!) Bathroom well stocked (though the hairdryer wasn't very good, but that's hardly a disaster!). Breakfast is included and there was loads of choice and plenty of it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Although it's obviously an older style establishment, everything felt well maintained and smart. The hotel is in a quiet district approx 10 mins walk to the cathedral and leaning tower. The local train station is under 10 mins walk and there are bus stops within a couple of minutes of the front door with very regular buses to the station - all journeys 1€70 no ticket needed, just tap debit card as you get on. From the main station (25 min walk or about 10 mins by bus) there are regular trains across Tuscany and wider Italy - Florence is about 1hr away. We didn't use the bar or eat at the hotel in the evening as we just walked into Pisa and ate at some of the many very reasonably priced restaurants. Would be very happy to return to Grand Hotel Bonnano!
