Best meals ever....thanks to all the staff that made it worthwhile

Most of the staff were friendly especially one called Francis who always made sure our room was clean and was very helpful whenever we needed anything. The cleanliness of the place was generally good. As for the room I thought it was smaller than the room we last stayed in when we were there last year in November(the garden facing ones). Apart from the difference in the room sizes the stay was okay just like the last one.

As you enter the hotel through reception it offers you a view of what to expect from the location and as we had arrived from the Masai Mara they swiftly directed us towards lunch to ensure that we did not miss out. Overall this property offers you a very broad appeal, and is one of the high-quality properties with an expansive offering in Diani Beach. This is a result of bringing together three former hotels. We had been in touch with Baobab Beach Resort and Spa as they were having major renovations earlier in the year. I am really pleased to say that the pockets of ongoing work did not affect us at all and were all out of sight. We had two deluxe rooms, both of which were very spacious, more than we needed, but very nice to have. The refurbishment has yielded good results with high quality bathrooms and bedrooms. The hotel offers quiet areas if you want them, and plenty of activities to get you moving. There were three main restaurants and we found the two buffets both to be very good. Some of the food was outstanding and I will go into more detail. At breakfast there is a nice selection and rotation daily so that you don’t end up eating the same food day after day. There is plenty of tropical fruit (sadly mangoes were out of season), full English, American waffles and pancakes, and great Indian breakfasts. The chana and poori was excellent as were the dosa, masala dosa and idli sambar. Lunch was generally very good with a great Indian station that offered chaat, doklaa, sev, and pani poori. There were great fish and meat grills all freshly made. There were also great curries, dhal and fresh naan straight from the tandoor. Dinner also offered plenty of choice and with a very similar variety. Note that I have not listed everything and there were plenty of other offerings. Generally, the quality of food was very high and very flavoursome, especially the Indian food and local curries. I met Head Chef James and he has a great team behind him and a special mention goes out to Allan and Ken (great masala chicken), Samir for an absolutely amazing lamb curry as good as my wife’s(!). Samir also made incredible alloo tiki, pani poori, doklaa and chaat dishes. He is without doubt very skilled in making tasty Indian food, and we are fussy!! Alice and Edwince, as well as many others were wonderful in the restaurants. The Spa has a really nice location with views out to the sea, and a special mention goes out to Lucy, Berta and Winny, in the spa, all of which were superb! My wife made me have my first pedicure… Willy (provided towels and sunbeds), William and Festus who helped us with our luggage were very helpful and kind individuals, and provided great service. Christopher from Robinson Security by the pool taught me a new Swahili word every day! A special mention also goes out to David, one of the General Managers. He offered his personal service to us and offered to remedy any issues we encountered. We had a minor issue with the air conditioning in one of our rooms and it was swiftly rectified. Every morning there was a stretch class at 10:00 and I wish we had taken advantage of this every day! Aqua Aerobics is very good as well. In the later afternoon there was always a gathering for volleyball and the standard of play was high and great to watch. Nearby there was access to fuse ball, a pool table and another balancing table game that I didn’t recognise. The bars were generally very good and there was never a long wait to be served. A Dawa became the drink of the holiday! A variation on the Dawa was to replace the vodka with rum. The bars offered afternoon tea and snacks, but I was usually too full from lunch. There are three large pools around the property and these were all well located, with sunbeds and adjacent to the bars. The hotel offers nightly entertainment by the Jambo Team and they brought amazing acrobatic skills and high energy dancing, all of which was a joy to watch. A lady from Italy, Irene did much of the choreography here and together this team produced incredible entertainment. One evening there was a team of Masai that offered traditional song, dance and a warrior fighting simulation. This was an exceptional evening. The entertainment was a brilliant way to round off the evening. Diani Beach is really beautiful. There is expansive fine white sand and shallow waters during low tide and the beach stretches for more than 30km. It is probably one of the most beautiful beaches that I have been to and I compare it with Thailand, the Seychelles, Australia and others. There might be more perfect beaches, but this in its natural state is truly sensational. I suspect many will disagree with me on this. Also, the beach retains public access, which is normal in Kenya. Yes, there are people on the beach who will come up to you, but every time a polite, but firm acknowledgement with an expression that you don’t need anything works a treat. It is of course a hard place for them to work and try and earn a living. We also met and spoke with a number of former Europeans on the beach often with their dogs who have called Diani their home for many years now. Overall a great stay at Baobab Beach Resort and Spa, and I would definitely return.

My wife and I recently spent a few days at Baobab Beach Resort and Spa on Diani Beach, and it was easily one of the most relaxing getaways we’ve had together. Perched on the cliff edge with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, the overall ambiance far exceeded our expectationsthe resort is embedded in lush, immaculate tropical gardens filled with native flora and colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy, giving the whole place a serene, paradise-like feel. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, offering a peaceful retreat after a long day in the sun. What truly elevated our stay was the phenomenal hospitality at the main restaurant; the buffet spread was excellentespecially the lively, mouthwatering nyama choma stationand the team went above and beyond. The Food & Beverage Manager, Charles, runs a seamless operation, and our regular waiters, Yusuf and Susan, took such great care of us with their genuine warmth and quick service every single day. Rounding out the evenings with the vibrant animation team shows at porini amphitheater made for an unforgettable trip, and we planning for our return .
